During my mini hiatus I fulfilled my dream of visiting Norway! The most surprising thing was hearing Lithuanian being spoken literally everywhere. My mum and I always speak Lithuanian to each other, so it was incredibly bizarre for people to overhear us and then come speak with us, or to have waiters/shopkeepers switch from English to Lithuanian. Iâve never experienced anything like it before, and I had no idea so many Lithuanians live in Norway! I absolutely ADORED this, it made all the places we visited instantly feel like home. Despite all that, I learned a bit of Norwegian and discovered that itâs literally the cutest language. Language learning is absolutely wonderful

bonus for english speakers; if youâre speaking (for example) american english and talking to someone who speaks (for example) british english, do you expect them to pronounce your name the way you do? or is it okay if they pronounce it with their accent?
thinkin about a baby of my acquaintance & how when her parents are hanging out & chatting, she'll almost fully participate in the conversation--politely watching who's talking, saying something approx the same length & tone of what her parents are saying, occasionally using a questioning cadence & looking at someone specific for an answer, laughing when they laugh--doing everything except actually using any recognizable language
this baby also once tipped me a granola bar at work. she'd been watching everyone in line very closely & when it was her parent's turn, at exactly the right point in the transaction for a tip, she pickpocketed her mom's granola bar & shoved it in the tip har
Free PDF Workbooks for Japanese, Spanish, Korean, etc. (30+ languages)
If youâre looking to practice a bit and remember your target language better⊠here are tons of free worksheets/workbooks for 34 languages (Japanese, Spanish, Korean, French, German, Italian, etc, etc.)
Itâs the same type of âfill in the blankâ workbook across all of their languages but the magic in actually rewriting things over and over is that the words end up sticking. Plus, there are English sections where youâll have to force yourself to remember and write the word/phrase in the target language - which is even better for your memory (called active recall - forcing yourself to remember). Iâm personally a big fan of this approach and Iâd do similar to pass vocab quizzes in my HS & uni language classes.
If youâre interested, give these a go.

what is your preferred method (or which do you like more if you don't write in cyrillic). mine is 2
The most excruciating thing about exchanges is knowing you'll leave and life is so good right now. I don't want to study (I have to) I want to spend time with my friends in the sun. Maybe then I can manage to spend enough time and love them enough (never possible) and I'll be OK about leaving. But I have to study (I can't because I'm sad I have to leave). I want to enjoy life, but it is hard when it is so good and I know it is temporary but I love and cherish every moment. I sometimes feel like I'm in a book but books are real sometimes. I love my friends and I have friends so many places. My heart is torn. I have too many people I love and too little time. And I need to study. I have an exam project due tomorrow and I have to study.

Question: Does your language have a punny answer when asking for the time?
I know the English one (and similar ones like that):
âWhatâs the time?â -Â âTime to get a watch.â or âTime to [insert funny answer]â
And one German one is:Â
âWas sagt die Uhr?â -Â âTick-tack.â
(What does the clock say? - Tik-tok)
I would really like to know whether this is something that is common in several languages, so feel free to comment or reblog if you know a similar pun in your language!
âWie spĂ€t ist es?â â âZu spĂ€t.â
(âHow late is it?â â âToo late.â)
Norwegian:
- hva er klokken? (What is the time/watch?)
- rund (round)
