Aeolus watched his son carefully… He wasn’t sure why but Castor had always struck a nerve with him. He was a defiant little boy and Aeolus hated that. More than once during a beating he had wished nothing more than to snap his delicate little neck. Still the boy hadn’t done anything to truly warrant it. If he could “forgive” Rordan for what he had done that set the bar pretty high for Castor to screw up. Still he enjoyed the fear seeping off him.
“Why aren’t you eating?” He snapped suddenly and his other children began to force food down their throats. They were all so scared that their appetites ha been spoiled but even then he could ~force~ them to eat. It was a nice feeling. “You lot have no idea how lucky you are… Perhaps that’s the problem. I’ve been too soft on all of you. Your grandfather would not have stood for half the disappointment you all have given me. Perhaps I should rethink how easy you have it.” He said and caught his wife’s eyes for a moment.
“We have the beneficiaries ball next weekend for the ministry” He added as he polished off his plate “Castor, Pollux and Rordan I expect you three to be there.” He eyed his daughters almost daring them to say anything. They were women and unmarried at that so they were not invited. Only the men of the family were and he knew that made his daughter Olivia’s blood boil.
His earlier euphoria melted away like snow in front of the sun and Castor swallowed inaudibly before going back to his food. He hadn’t known what he had done to earn his father’s permanent ire, but then again, maybe this ran in the family what with how he spoke about their dearest grandfather.
That cemented his other thoughts: if he was to get kids then he wouldn’t treat them like dirt.
Castor nodded. “Yes, sir.” Afterwards, he tried to catch Una’s eyes, if only so he could communicate---silently, mind---that he was sorry. That seemed to be his default mood regarding his sisters, anyway. Forcing himself to look up, he quietly asked his father---after receiving permission to speak, of course---who would be there at the ball.
