fly fishing

Fly fishing is another different type of fishing that is fun to do if you want to kind of get away from the basic type of fishing.

Fly fishing requires your to get a different kind of rod and reel. To me I love fly fishing, it is a lot of fun if you can figure out how to do it correctly. When you fly fish you kind of constantly cast in a way, you keep bring the bait back and throwing it out farther until you get to the spot that you want it to be at.

There are different lures for fly fishing. They are smaller than your regular lure that you are going to use to kind of represent a bug in a way.

You can fly fish many species and places but the place I like to go is to a shallow river for trout. You stand in the river and keep on asking it out until you get the lure just behind or in front of a rock. And then just hope a fish comes and eats the lure.

Fly fishing takes more skill and I can get more frustrating if you don't know what you are doing. I leaned it all from Youtube so it was kind of easy and the best way to learn or get better is to just keep doing it.

I think fly fishing is a lot of fun and I recommend everyone does it at some point in their life.

bow fishing

This isn't a typical kind of fishing but it is something I do enjoy doing. Bow fishing is fun if you like staying up late and shooing a bow and arrow at fish. The fish you shoot at is carp is the one I will typically go for.

I will go out around 10 PM because it is dark and you need it to be dark in order to see the fish. You use big light at the front of your bait to light up the water and see the fish beneath the water. When you spot a fish you shoot the bow and arrow at it and see if you can hit it.

You need to make sure that you know what you are shooting at because a lot of fish are very illegal to shoot. So make sure you spot a carp before you shoot at it.

This is a very fun way to fish but it also takes people that know what they are doing. I recommend you doing it if you get the chance because it is super fun but it definitely is not for everyone.

sunfish fishing

Fishing for sunfish is a lot like fishing for crappies. If you haven't read my blog about crappie fishing I recommend you go read that one too to find out more information about fishing for these kids of fish.

The one and only way I fish for sunfish is with a bobber and hook set up. I use a red hook most of the time but a black or other color works just as well. The bait that I use with the hook is either a worm or a wax worms. If you put on worm I recommend that you cut the worm in half and don't use a huge part of it because it will be a lot harder to catch if it is to big for the fishes mouth. If you use the wax worm just put the entire thing on the hook.

I recommend fishing all sunnies is close to shore. Around docks is where I will find the most sunnies. I rarely find any of the sunnies out in deep water. I will also fish off shore. You don't need a boat to be able to fish sunniness, find a dock and fish off the dock for success too.

Northern Pike fishing...

This is another fun fish that I like to catch. I catch a lot of northern while I am musky fishing. So if you want some other tips and trick to try to catch bigger go into my musky fishing blog...

One thing I will give more tips on is using a beetle spin. I have caught a bunch of northern using this method. What is a beetle spin? A beetle spin is a spinner bait if you know what that is just a lot smaller. is has a blade on the end of the it that spins to attract fish in. You can also catch a bunch of other species doing this method. I love to troll beetle spins but casting and reeling them back in works too.

I haven't really done any other method then beetle spins for northern, but I have found doing that is very successful.

Crappie fishing

Crappie are a very fun fish to catch and very good to eat if you can find the big ones.

My first way I love to fish crappie is with a bobber and some sort of hook at the bottom of it. On that hook I always use a crappie minnow. But on occasion I will put some sort of plastic on it. A great example of a plastic is gulp. Gulp smells awful but is a good method if you don't really want to reuse or put on a minnow every time you catch one because gulp stays on pretty well.

I will fish crappies on docks. They love to hang out. near docks during spring before any of the other seasons in MN get going because they are spawning. But in the summer you have to try to find a school of them and you can hammer them if you get in a good school. They will usually be in pockets in a lake.

The other way I love to fish them in the early season is to cast out a little hook with a plastic on it and then reel it back in jigging it slowly. This will attract a lot of fish and make you catch a lot in the early season I have found.

Catfish fishing!!!

Catfish fishing is fun but it can get kind of gross.. really gross. Here are a few tips and tricks to catch more catfish.

First tip I am giving is to find a river with moving water. These rivers can get pretty nasty. Catfish like to sit in these gross waters and try to find whatever to eat.

Bait to use is a hotdog that has been soaked in a bunch of stuff to make it smell absolutely AWFUL. One of my favorites to soak my hotdogs in is cool-aid because it gives the hotdog a good color. There are also a bunch of baits you can buy from the store to fish with.

The way I fish it is a hook balled up with the bait on it with a weight either below to above it to suck it to the bottom making it able to say out in the water. The way you fish catfish for me is to cast out and then just let it sit there until something bites it.

Catfish fishing is a waiting sport but fun if you can hook into them.

Musky fishing...

Fishing for musky is very difficult. They say that they are a fish of 10,000 cast meaning that they are pretty challenging to fish and catch. But here are a few things that I use to try to catch some of these amazing fish.

First one I love to use is by casting out and reeling the lure back in. If you aren't very familiar with musky fishing is that the rods and the baits are A LOT bigger than the lures you might be used to fishing smaller fish. Some of my favorites to cast out are called bulldogs. they are about 7 inches long and big. When casting these try to find weeds or rocks to cast into.

The second way is to use a sucker stopper. This lure is a leader with 3 hooks on it and you hook a minnow or a sucker in the head, back, and tail. You kind of have 2 option when using this to either troll or cast and let the sucker swim around. Casting and reeling doesn't work the best.

Third way is to roll deep water with deep driving crank baits. I have been with and caught a lot of this method. Really works if you and trying to fish deep water for musky.

Musky fishing is an expensive sport but it is something that is super fun to do if you have a lot of time on your hands and want to catch a very large fish.

walleye fishing

There are a lot of tricks and tips that people can use to be able to catch some walleye. Many of these tricks will be able to work in order for you to hook into a huge eye.

First tip or trick that is one of my favorite is using a jig. There are 2 main jigs that I love to use. First one being a haired jig. When using this haired jig, I love to tip it off with a shiner or some sort of minnow. The other way is to just use some sort of colored jig. My favorite to use is a gold or silver head on the jig. Same thing as the haired is I usually tip it off with some sort of minnow.

Second way I love to fish walleye is with throwing or trolling crank baits. This gives off good presentation that makes walleye go crazy. You can fish these when there are some rock and you can cast into the rocks and reel it back not slow but at kind of some sort of speed. But you can also troll the flats with the crank bait.

Last way I love to fish is with Lindy rigs. These are really good because they have a shinny spinner or 2 or 2 that attracts a lot of fish. When using the Lindy, I like to tip it off with a worm or a leech. This is a good way to fish rock piles in my mind because it keeps the worm or whatever bait you are using to stay kind of elevated off of the ground for the eyes to see.

Largemouth bass fishing...

Fishing in shallow tips and tricks for Largemouth Bass...

1st thing I would try if you have the opportunity is to get up in shallow. Some spots that I love to try out every time that I see them are docks that are in the 4-6ft range at the end, lily pads that are not less that 2ft deep, and cat tails. My personal favorite is dock fishing, try to throw your bait about 2 feet away from the end of the dock and allow the bait to sink all the way to the bottom of the lake. Then when it gets to the bottom give it a light jerk back with your rod and begin almost twitching your rod while reading your bait back in. This strategy applies for the other 2 spots I wrote above as well.

Now onto bait. My go to bait to throw is called the Senko. you can buy these plastic worms at any fishing store really and all you basically do it throw a bullet weight above the hook and then hook the bait right in the middle through the side of the bait. This applies an amazing presentation that bass can not resist.

Again there are many other way to fish for these amazing fish but this is just one way that I love to fish for this amazing species of fish.
