I get the idea, and I like to shop local when it’s not too cost prohibitive, but the big companies also have employees looking to do all those things as well. The idea that all your money goes to Scrooge McDuck isn’t accurate and just promotes class warfare.

Basic lack of understanding of both math and the basic economics of running a business. In most cases, the “majority” of your money goes towards the wholesale/build cost of the product. The profit margin is smaller if not much smaller. That amount is then divided up to pay all business expenses, overhead, wages, etc. A tiny tiny amount makes it to the boogyman CEO, however, when you sell unbelievable amount of product, that tiny fraction of the money you paid at the store adds up. This is why small business owners struggle. They don’t move as much product so their margin needs to be higher which makes it hard to compete with big company prices. That CEO is also employing hundreds if not thousands more people. I’m not saying it’s a perfect situation but the original picture a dishonest appeal to emotion.
