And the worst part is, I think she might like someone else… But I can’t give up! /gradually getting more enthusiastic/ One day, I’m going to tell her! -Blinks then turns around, embarrassed for having said that- N-nothing! Ignore what I said!

The Best Treasure Hunters [Joe/Angela]

Angela squinted against the light of Joe’s flashlight, biting her lip. “Uhm, yeah, I just—” She watched him turn around, searching for the source of her troubles, but the flashlight dancing over the narrow staircase was only making her feel dizzy. She blinked rapidly, willing herself to take deep breaths. In. Out. In. Out.

Swallowing numbly once again, she shook her head, trying to put on her brave face. “No, it’s alright, we can keep… going.” After a few more deep breaths, she took her first step down the stairs, slowly followed by another, then another. The walls felt tight around her, but she kept her breathing steady. “I’m, uhm, right behind you!” she told him, taking a few more steps. “So let’s go!”

"Are ya sure? You know if you saw something, ya should just speak up. Rather be safe than sorry, yeah?" he said. Something seemed off. Angela seemed pretty unsettled, even he could notice. But she seemed to be fine a few moments later. Well, he'd just have to trust her. That's what these things required, right? Trust? If she said she could go on and didn't see anything... "...Well, all right. Jus don't be afraid to say somethin' when you need to."

Joe turned around, heading down the stairs again. "So, you wanted to head all the way down, right?" he asked. "Treasure would probably be below the hot springs, if they're not on the last level. I mean, thinking about it, people probably found a lot of things on the hot spring level already, although I'd still check it. Can you imagine pirates using this sport to hide treasure and bath a long time ago? I totally bet that was a thing!" he said. Before long, he had headed pretty far down the steps. He felt that they had to be getting close to the bottom soon.

Huh? Well if you’re asking if I’m popular with the ladies, you can bet on that! And there’s nothin’ wrong with looking, either. But in the end, I only wanna date one girl. The ones you wanna protect with everything you got are the cutest, am I right? What’s the point in dating someone if you’re not gonna put in 110% into making sure you got her?

-He opens his mouth to reply, then closes it. He murmurs instead,- I’m not even going to reply to that…. -Clears his throat- That’s a pretty straightforward way of putting it, Joe. I think you should be attracted to the girl not just ‘cause of her looks, but also because of the true way your heart feels.

Uh… -Scratches his head- Maybe not really like you but somewhere a little less… -Searches for the word to use- … Frank.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying! But I mean, if you're in love, you're going to naturally think that she's cute. Their personality shines through so they can't help but be like that. What do you think "love at first sight" is, anyways? One look and sometimes you jus' know! You just know she's the one for you, and you ain't gonna stop till she's yours. *points off in the distance, a look of determination in his eyes* You hear that?! I'm definitely going to win your heart!

*looks back at Mikhail* Huh? Hey, what exactly are you sayin?

"Research? What is it that an elegant gentleman such as you might do?” She said leaning in, a grin on her face. “I’m really interested, you see.” Though she was annoyed by him, Sofia was really curious about this man, a friend of the DSC family as it seemed. She finally decided to take him to that drink he insisted on having with her. 

With a sigh, Sofia said. “Stay there and don’t follow me." She then opened her umbrella and turned around, and started walking towards the restaurant.

Joe grinned, happy to receive more 'compliments'. "Aw, well, only sometimes. Actually, I'm a treasure hunter," he said. "I usually only sail the oceans around Fenith, but lately I've been heading out to check out new places! It's been pretty awesome so far. You meet some interesting people and see some interesting stuff."

Joe stood confused for a moment before realizing the girl was starting to head away. "Wha-? H-hey, wait a minute!" He ran up to her, walking beside her. "C'mon, don't leave me behind! What about going out to eat, or just get a drink? You seemed pretty interested in that before."

She knew there was a branch of the DSC family almost in every corner of the kingdom, but she didn’t know there was a branch in the islands. ”Where do you know her from, sir?” She asked.

Sofia was still confused about this whole situation, she knew people had a hard time understanding her, but this was getting out of hand; not to mention she was a little scared of the red haired man. Sure, he was a good looking man, but he was very very strange. “I’m paying for the drinks! And dinner as well." She said adamantly to the guy. "What are you still standing there, get going!"

"She lives on Fenith Island, same as me," Joe said. "We're sorta friends. Sometimes I'll ask to borrow some books from her for researching. It's pretty helpful for searching the ocean, even if reading can be a pain."

"What? Are you sure you want to pay? I mean, since you seem so sure about it..." he said. "I'd get going but I told you, I don't know where the local cafe is around here. Wouldja mind showing me?"

"Eurgh, all right, sorry!" He said, putting his hands up. "And the person you remind me of, her name’s Electra. She has the same kinda hair, and something about the face I think… You don’t happen to know her, do ya?"

"A drink? Yeah, I’ll ask you, but I don’t know the nearest spot. I’ll pay though, so mind showing me?" He grinned, waiting for the girl to lead the way.

"Electra—" The name sure sounded familiar, she remembered one of her distant cousins to have that name. "—De Sainte-Coquille?" Sofia uncrossed her arms and opened her umbrella, with a frown and a grin she continued. "She might be my cousin."

"Huh?!" She started blushing again. "You sir are the most ridiculously charming man I’ve had the pleasure to meet!!" Who was this man and why was he addressing her, Sofia De Sainte-Coquille, in such an insolent manner?!

"Yeah, that's right- Electra de Sainte-Coquille," Joe said, nodding. "Oh, so she's your cousin, huh? I guess that's why you looked so familiar. Yeah, I can really see it now! That makes a lot of sense."

Joe laughed, scratching the back of his head.  "Haha, thanks! That's quite the compliment! But really, I guess you should always offer to pay when taking a cute girl out, right?" He grinned.

She suddenly stopped walking to turn around and face the strange man, she walked over and placed her hands on her hips. Still slightly blushed, she said. “I know how I look!! I don’t need you to remind me. And, it’d be nice to know who I remind you off.” 

Sofia took a good look at the red haired man. “Now, if you excuse me, I’d like you to invite me to have a drink with you." She crossed her arms, waiting for him to leave.

The Best Treasure Hunters [Joe/Angela]

Angela had to bite her lip to keep from laughing. The idea of Joe visiting the Harvest King amused her to no end; the two were so different, she had no doubt they wouldn’t get along, no matter how hard Joe may try to. “Heh, yeah, maybe!”

She looked over at the flashlight in his hand and nodded, grinning up at him. “It looks like a good one! Sometimes there are lanterns lit around the walls down there, but not always. Hopefully two flashlights will be enough.”

She also started forward, but now that she could see down the narrow stone staircase, illuminated by the two flashlight beams, she could feel her heart start beating quickly against her chest. She kept her eyes glued to the stairs, swallowing numbly as her feet led her forward. She wasn’t really listening to Joe at this point, and when he started down the stairs, she found herself stuck at the top, looking down them blankly. She hadn’t been down there since she had opened the cave up for the first time, and even that had been a brief visit. Even the idea of walking down a staircase so narrow was suddenly making her feel jumpy…

Angela snapped back to attention when Joe asked her the question. She blinked, looking down at him from where he was a few steps below her, his back to her. “Uhm—” her voice shook a little as she spoke, “I’m not sure, probably?” Her voice jumped an octave on that last word and she swallowed again, her feet still not moving.

Hearing a change in Angela's voice, Joe stopped heading down the stairs. He looked over his shoulder, surprised to see that Angela wasn't right behind him. He turned around, bringing the flashlight beam up the steps he had currently gone down until it illuminated Angela a bit more.

"Yo, Angela, are you coming?" He asked. Noting she looked unnerved he said, "Did you see something or something?" He turned around again, searching the path ahead of him for anything scary or dangerous.The beam danced around the hall, cutting through the darkness, but never quite enough to see everything. After a moment, he concluded there was nothing there. Keeping the light pointed down the stairs, he turned his upper body towards Angela.

"I don't see anything," he said. "You aren't thinking we should be heading up the mountain after all?" he asked. "I mean, s'all up to you, but I jus thought..." He trailed off, getting the sense that he might not be going down the right path here, both metaphorically and physically.

Nah, I mean it! Even if you can’t lift or anything, you can still have a strong personality… confidence, you know? As long as you make an effort.

I think I’m fine with confidence and my personality. Physically strength isn’t the thing for me, I guess.
