+ nolan patrick no. 19 of the philadelphia flyers

beautiful. monotone. surly w the media. (Tragic.) his dad and uncle were in the nhl so he grew up in winnipeg as basically hockey royalty, became captain of his juniors team, and was predicted to be a top draft pick for the NHL in 2017. unfortunately he is living with an ancient Curse and often injured (re: has broken his collarbone twice, had two hernias, migraine disorder, etc) which lowered his stock a little. he ended up going SECOND overall in the draft to philadelphia. who went number one?

+ nico hischier no. 13 of the new jersey devils

sweet. humble. cute as heck. nico is a swiss hockey player who had a lot of hype gathering as the draft approached, eclipsing nolan's even. the narrative was clearly that they were to be rivals (they captained the teams for the yearly CHERRY v ORR draft prospects game and then spent a lot of time together before the draft and became fast friends (who still talk and have vacationed together and hung out after games). anyway, he went FIRST overall to new jersey and was named captain of the team earlier this year. :)))

earnest. hardworking. fun. affectionate. he is so many things!! a funky sweet little guy who has a Huge heart but then also pesters the shit out of his opponents. ANYWAY, he went in the 2015 draft, and he was taken by the philadelphia flyers at TWENTY-FOURTH overall so there wasn't as much fanfare about him--he went lower because he's small (for hockey, 5'10) and also there were some worries about injuries. anyway, he was a steal and he's amazing.

so he was already on the flyers when nolan arrived. tk had been working hard, earning his spot, and now mr. big deal has arrived. SECOND overall. everyone knew who nolan patrick was and whereas it took tk a year to make the team after being drafted, nolan was given a spot immediately, even coming in with an injury (the hernia.) so you'd think, maybe there's gonna be some tension. NOPE. tk instantly fell for nolan and made him feel comfy on the team and wanted to make him laugh and they became roommates for road games and nolan even moved into tk's building.

(they were dates for their captain's wedding. it's fine.)

anyway, THEN! nolan started suffering from a migraine disorder summer 2019 (cursed!) and missed all of the next season, which was horrendous. meanwhile, tk was lighting up the league. so much so that he was picked to play in the all-star games that year. who else was also picked for it? nico hischier, of course. tk was asked if he was looking forward to meeting anyone at the all-star games and mentioned only one person: nico, because he was friends with nolan. so they met. and they played beautiful hockey together (tk assisting nicos goals) and were Cute.
