I'm nearing a month since I changed to eating vegetarian and it's going great. I'm a little surprised at my own commitment but between my ethics class, le best friend's husband doing the same and reading Eating Animals it felt like the right time.
Pictured here is my morning meal: Chipotle salad bowl with pinto beans and vegetarian sofrito. No rice since yesterday was so carby. Tonight I might try an Ethiopian restaurant with a friend and get either lentils or mushroom tibs.
1C is down to 6.1 from 6.2 and kidneys are looking good. Oh, and did I mention I was accepted to nursing school? Because that happened! Insert obligatory Supernatural gifs here:
This is the greatest video I’ve ever seen in my life

45 minute YouTube cardio workout this morning, then 2x dogwalking later today. And lots of studying for my ethics test tomorrow.
‘nother update. I did this routine, along with another 10 minute arm workout, and a dynamic stretching Hasfit video yesterday afternoon. Like I said in the last post, carrying heavy things at work + exercising more has definitely made my noodle arms have shapelier definition in the forearms and biceps. Gender-wise and body-wise, that change feels really good.
From earlier this month after I came in from dog walking. Currently I do dog walking about five times a week from 25 minutes to an hour. Between that and lifting boxes at work I've started to notice more definition in my arms, too.
Update!
It's been too long since I last posted. I'm doing well, overall: maintaining dietary habits, walking, and taking metformin.
I'm having more trouble motivating myself to do the fingerstick test. My numbers have been decent when checking - 127-130 on average when I wake up, but I do want to check this more regularly.
My D&D adventure party subsists on alcohol, pizza, and dino shaped chicken nuggets during our 1-2x/month game nights. Grateful to the DM for providing seltzer and carbonated but not sugary beverage options, and I typically only have pizza on the nights we meet up, so I'm hoping it'll balance out.
I took up a second gig walking my friends' dog 1-3 times a week in addition to walking my family's dog a couple of times a week. Being paid to exercise is awesome. Motivating myself to use my gym membership or exercise at home is...well, I just haven't been doing it. It's easy to say I don't have time. Harder to not accept that as an excuse and go get sweaty. So, challenging myself to spend a half hour tonight working out beyond taking Remus for a walk.
Me most days:
Me thinking about exercising and then @ myeself, not putting up with my own excuses:
One more thing. I noticed my feet and hands feel cold more often and I wake up with cold feet even under too many blankets. Worse circulation or start of peripheral neuropathy?
A dear former housemate who now lives all of ten minutes away messaged me this week to ask if I wanted to pick up a small side gig and walk her dog two to three times a week. We’re meeting up Saturday morning for a trial run. If it works out I’ll be getting paid to exercise. :D

Some positives
While I’ve slid into being more sedentary than I planned over the last semester there are still many good things to point out: - Submitted an online order to refill my Metformin prescription. I really appreciate having home delivery available.
- I go out with the dog on average five or six days of the week, sometimes for multiple walks a day. That’s usually during the week. On the weekend my parents take over more since they’re home.
- My brosef’s friend has a friend pass at their gym and we’ve gone together once already. Plan to keep doing that. We were supposed to go tonight but they don’t stay open on weekends so those plans got pushed to this coming Tuesday or Wednesday.
- I’ve been packing lunches to take to work and class with me. My most common snacks to pack include raw or roasted unsalted nuts, apples or celery with no sugar added almond or peanut butter (gotta get to Costco to pick up more of their almond butter - it’s the best deal price-wise and I like the taste), low moisture part skim mozzarella cheese sticks (the dog also loves them), and beef jerky on occasion.
- I went grocery shopping and purchased A LOT at Aldi this past week: tasty tasty bath mats, popcorn with herbs, the lower carb veggie burger patties, huuuuge stalk of celery, raw unsalted nut mix, a bag of beef jerky, sliced roasted turkey, sliced gouda, guacamole, and corn tortillas.
- Made three large batch meals this past week to share with brosef and friends: crockpot chicken and sweet potato with Szechuan sauce, crockpot chicken with yellow Thai curry, and red enchiladas using shredded crockpot chicken leftovers.
- Getting back to updating this Tumblr more often.
And now, back to memorizing cardiovascular terms for lab. If I memorize ten a day I’ll be done before my next lab day, so it’s back to nodes, bundles, branches, arteries, and veins. ;___;
Dog walking Looks from this week. Couldn’t resist getting him a flagging collar at the store today. Also, my legs look good.
Brosef is sick so I walked the dog and made us breakfast: Sir Ian's scrambled eggs, salad, toast, and tea.
Father used his snow blower on the driveway so all I needed to do was brush the snow off the cars and from around the tires. I substituted frozen spinach for the kale, added one small potato and canned mushrooms. I used de puy lentils so they cooked a little faster. Making the most of taking a sick day. After this, bubble bath and reading in bed.
Finals week breakfast: plain cheerios cereal, blueberries, unsweetened almond milk, and my usual tea to drink when sick.

It’s fine Dean. It just wanted to check your blood sugar!
Brosef
Brosef comes into my room while I'm studying, plops down on my bed and starts eating Twizzlers. We look at the nutrition info and I decide to take one, which is 1/4th of a serving.
She says after that I'm cut off and loudly proclaims, "I'm saving you from carbs! I'm doing the lord's work!"
I point out she brought them into my room in the first place. Stalemate.
