scugsona (and kinda the mascot of this account?) time!
(Art by @slimeslimeslimeslime)
Working name... The Shapeshifter, or the Orb, but. we will take suggestions for better names if anyone has one.
It... shapeshifts. can take on aspects of the form and attributes of other slugcats and creatures. Always keeps its colors and patterning, tho! It favors the form of a slugpup with the ruffles that rivulet has. (because that's what we always play as when co-op times happen)

EVERY SLUGCAT. IN THE HISTORY OF RAIN WORLD. THAT WE KNOW OF. inspired by @hourglass-meadow's original post from ~9 months ago because haha. hah. theres SO MANY MORE. HERE'S ALL OF THEM BABY.
symbols next to the slugcats and what they mean:
slugcat sources under cut vvvv it gets a bit long!
first two are from runnMaze2.rar
next five are from kickstarter art:
first & second art, third art, fourth art
I DO NOT HAVE A SOURCE FOR THIS ONE IF SOMEONE HAS IT PLEASE LINK ME IT. i've heard its on the devlog but i never found it oops. these were original arena slugcat designs!
as for the slugcat pups...
from here
from here
the gang(tm) are from in-game. the green slugcat however was the original fourth arena slugcat!
image posted by james on the rain world discord!
the next five slugcats are from survivor's intro cutscene. interesting note that monk was not added at this time! monk and hunter were added ~4 months after rain world released, so assumedly these cutscenes weren't made in mind with monk.
the remaining slugcats in the second row are all from basegame projections that you can find in your own files, with the path
and we all know where the downpour slugcats are from ;) these are all from ingame. the slugpups next to gourmand are colorpicked from gourmand's non-food quest ending art!
the next few slugcats are from gourmand's ending, excluding gourmand themself, of course!
the next three are judge and the two beta spearmasters!
i do not have a source from where judge is from - but the beta spearmasters were posted by faeling :]
the next slugcats are from gourmand's scrapped ending, which you can find on the wiki!
the yellow and blue slugcats were two slugcats added in a projection with remix enabled. i didn't add the white slugcat from this one because... look do you see how many white slugcats there are already. also i forgot
the rest are all from the coop thumbnail, wip coop thumbnail, devtools [surv, monk and hunter also feature and this is nightcat but i included it due to the color difference from in-game] and remix thumbnail [probably survivor, but again, color difference! even if its stylistic i still think its neat to include :]] and the coop manual!
you can find the wip coop thumbnail on the wiki!
you. Could argue the white and yellow ones from the manual are surv and monk, But ! color difference. also the yellow pup that looks like monk actually matches perfectly with the yellow slugcat pup from alpha
adult swim owned the game before downpour & if they still did i dont think downpour would've been a thing. But also the game was finished even before downpour.
The big thing is that the new publisher was never needed for us to get Downpour either. Downpour was a fan passion project that had been in production for SEVERAL years , most of which, adult swim was the publisher. We would've gotten the expansion no matter what.
It wouldn't have been supported officially most likely, but it would still exist.
yeah, yeah, Downpour is very different to the base game, it has more traditional videogame progression, a more clear objective for each campaign, all that. But I honestly respect that, I respect that it doesn't try replicate the base game because a lot of the base game charm comes from the initial exploration of the world, learning it's rules, movement, creature ai. No matter how many new creatures or regions you make, you can't replicate thta feeling, you can't be a little creature lost in the world after you already clawed your way tp the top of the food chain. That doesn't make Downpour bad, it's just very different. And I believe making direct comparisons between the two is at best pointless. But at the same time it makes it so you miss SO much of the base game's themes if your first playthrough was a Downpour slugcat and you already know everything about the game.
i think its really funny when people say they don't like political media and just want something 'cozy' and 'discourse free' then the media theyre talking about is like. miyazaki movies. or the moomins
tove jansson and hayao miyazaki were probably the farthest from being apolitical you can be in children's animated media it's just that you saw cute artwork and a pleasant setting/aesthetic and decided to put no further thought into the story you were engaging with

i am a bit disappointed by the spearmaster plush. most prominent feature of the character, their tail, is still small. looks more like tired purple slugcat then spearmaster to me
saint, inv, and gourmand got anatomy alterations to the base plush form to fit their characters. i am no plushie expert but why wasn't spearmaster given the same?
i think the best one out of that set is inv actually but i will not be getting any because i do not have any money to spare right now
i do not care if it is spiky or not because spearmaster isn't always spiky. it is the body shape and tail especially that i am disappointed with
the whole body shape i understand more not wanting to change except for gourmand, because their shape is their character. i am disappointed that this plush doesn't really look like spearmaster
spearmaster is defined by their bony body and big tail. this plush doesn't reflect that

23 for fw, When using overseers, what is your iterator's favorite thing to watch/look at?
World likes looking at *everything*, gathering knowledge, but their *favorite* thing absolutely has to be looking at different types of lizards, discovering subtle differences about behavior and bodily variants in different varieties. Interesting information that could be very useful, with VE's horrifying ideas.
7 for SC, Does your iterator have any specific quirks or niches unlike "typical" iterators? Special jobs, equipment, etc.? If so, what?
Well, if you count explosive neurons as a quirk, there's that! His memory area is a bit more resistant to being torn apart by a THING slamming directly into it, as a bit of a built in "ok maybe the explosive neurons wasn't a good idea" defense, which does have interesting effects on the flexibility of his memory/how easy it is to remove and *add* to it, which is why he prefers to store his special trivia in pearls so he can access it easier without worries regarding it. No special quirks or niches or equipment beyond that, though!
