Saw someone refer to a non binary comedian as a woman because ‘well they use she/her pronouns as well and look too much like a woman to be enby’ and this frustrated me as an AFAB person who uses they/he/she (pretty much only using she/her to make things easier and safer in professional/ family settings)

So here’s your reminder that non binary people don’t owe you androgyny! Respect our identities, no matter how we present! Also pronouns do not equal gender, I am not ‘basically a woman’ just for using she/her or for still having longer hair & wearing makeup/ feminine clothes occasionally.

Nobody asked for this, but! The newly announced Key to Time novelisations sent me on a Tardis wiki deep dive, and as usual I have the urge to share what I've learnt about this convoluted franchise. So here's the timeline of Key to Time books.

1978-79: Season 16 of Dr Who airs, made up of 6 stories depitcting the quest for the Key to Time.

Late 1979: The novelisation of The Ribos Operation is published by Target Books, written by Ian Marter.

1980: The Target novelisations of the last four Key to Time stories are published, all written by Terrance Dicks. They aren't even all the Target books written by Dicks in 1980, he wrote five others. Man was a machine that turned TV into books.

2011 & 2012: David Fisher, the original TV author of The Stones of Blood and The Androids of Tara, writes 'novelisations' which are only published as audiobooks by AudioGo.

2017: BBC Books publish a novelisation of The Pirate Planet, written by James Goss. It was the last Key to Time story to be novelised due to various legal reasons connected to original author Douglas Adams, and the 2010s saw a bunch of Adams' Dr Who scripts novelised. This version was based more on the story's first drafts than its finished version.

2021: As part of the recently revived Target novelisation line, The Pirate Planet is rereleased. This edition is rewritten to be closer to the TV story.

2022: The previously audiobook-only Stones of Blood and Androids of Tara are publised as Target novelisations, a few years after David Fisher passed away.

2026 (just announced): A collection of all Key to Time stories is coming out, featuring the three 21st century novelisations, and three new ones. The Ribos Operationa and The Armagedden Factor (the first and last stories of the season) are written by James Goss, and The Power of Kroll is written by Robert Shearman (who has novelised a few of his own Dr Who scripts in the last few years.)

As a reminder, July is disability pride month! This pride month, I want us to especially think of:

Those with long-term/worsened disabilities because of their parents telling them to just work through it/get over it/"it's not that bad"

Those with disabilities stemming from childhood abuse

Those who know that they're disabled or suspect such, but can't get it diagnosed or checked out because of their parents/guardians disapproving

Those who know/suspect that they're disabled, but won't be diagnosed or checked out because they're "too young"

Those who struggle in or had to drop out of the harsh and mostly unaccommodating school system because of their disability or disabilities

Those who were lied to or not told they were disabled growing up so they could be raised "normal"

Those who have their privacy and autonomy violated as a combination of being disabled and being a child, as both of those groups are seen as not deserving their autonomy

Those who are disabled or had their disability (or disabilities) worsened because of the school system pushing them too far

Those who feel that they can never be one of the "normal" kids and that they'll always be isolated because of their disability or disabilities

Disabled folks who don't know or didn't know much about their disability as a kid because doctors would only explain to the parents/caretakers and no one bothered to talk to you

All disabled children having to deal with the intersectuality of being oppressed by both ableism and adultism.

Happy disability pride month and please start treating children and disabled people with basic respect and dignity!! They are autonomous beings! Act like it!
