He imagined Dankovsky smelling the words, analysing them rationally in his mind before replying. "I have made it my life's motive to find the cure to death, and I have yet to be able to wave any real results in the faces of my peers. But please, old colleague, do tell me what makes you special enough to have broken through the only thing in this world I still dare to believe in."

Artemy feels guilty when he's eating; like he's eating food that could go to starving children, so as soon as the plague ended, he stopped eating. Yet, he can’t figure out why he's so irritable and weak, but especially so damn fatigued every second of his life. When it finally reaches a tipping point, the annoyingly elegant face of a certain Dankovsky is ready to catch him. Albeit not without his fair share of sass, of course.

Merlin's pulse rose, but he tried to play it off as him being an idiot by leaning his head to the side and pursing his lips. "Did they really?" "They did." Arthur didn't seem to have time for Merlin's antics right now. He crossed his arms over his chest. "Do you have any idea what might have caused that?" "Oh, well… it's a breezy spring. The winds tend to be very strong this time of year." Or in which Arthur knows about Merlin’s magic, but waits - perhaps not very patiently - for Merlin to tell him himself. But when seeking out a magical beast by the border of the kingdom, they might not have the choice to stay quiet anymore.

What is a life worth? To a healer, quite a lot. To us, the person matters less than the life we try to save. This, I fully agree with. But if a life has been tainted by not one, not two, but three deaths - how much is that life worth? Is it necessary to save any more, or is it spoiled; corrupted by the terrors of beyond?

Artemy and Daniil exchange letters, and what begins as a way of understanding the events during the plague soon turns into something more personal.

2024 Team Highlight 52

Our fifty second team in the Reverse Big Bang was Leelany and Fizzlefudge

Leelany wanted to develop an idea revolving around Markus and Connor getting to spend some time together and get to know each other away from the prying eyes and pressures of the city, and their work. They created six artworks for this story, which can be found inset into the fic.

Fizzlefudge wrote The Cabin By The Lake, a Teen rated RK1K story where Connor and Markus go to the eponymous cabin. As a high flying lawyer, Markus invites his personal assistant Connor to come with him after the difficult case that saw them finally put Elijah Kamski in jail where he belongs, but results in threats against Markus' own life.

With nobody but the two of them around, Markus and Connor grow closer, but Connor has a history with Cyberlife that might complicate things.
