I have a theory:

Terik is a fraud (that's the basic theory, I know) but Fintan know it. And so Terik covers for Fintan and defends him even though he doesn't support the actions of the Neverseens because Fintan threatened to reveal this secret.

I thought of that because in book three, Terik was annoyed because the others doubted the usefulness of his ability or a thing like that idk how to explain.
