have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.

and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.

black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.

if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.

What DOES a good apology for antiblackness look like, to you?

Not a shitty twitter apology that dodges accountability. Not a genuine apology made to white fans to soothe their embarrassment and egos and maintain white solidarity.

What does an ACTUAL apology for antiblackness consist of, to you?

What actions do you need to see from people who claim to be better, to deserve your support despite a history of being unsafe?

Why do you think nonblack people feel they're entitled to grace, and what would actually EARN them your grace? What makes you not want to offer it at all?

I think there's a disconnect between what the group being harmed needs, and what people think the group being harmed should settle for. We've been forced to know the latter. How do Y'ALL feel?

I think the unfortunate reality is that a concerning amount of non-black people are casually racist in one way or another and they know is which is why they except here-nigga-damn ass apologies as the direct writings of God.

I'm gonna speak specifically on indie communities and productions and specifically hazbin hotel and TADC since they both have been found to be harboring racists. And Steven Universe specifically since Rebecca Sugar is one of the few white cartoonists that actually got it right on the first try.

The unfortunate reality is that a lot of them want quiet over atonement and don't have the backbone to actually take actual accountability. That being said, I would consider a good apology based on what good it does.

1. The apology itself needs to properly reckon, not only with what that said and the wrongness of it, but WHY it was wrong and what it means to bring hate into a space that should be inclusive. The fact that Brandon Rogers refuses to even try at this is exactly why I will never watch TADC and will side-eye anyone who does.

2. Actively trying to deal with the racism in your community. The indie community of all kinds of media are currently filled with outcasts of all kind that currently seem to rally around their love of edgy white-coded characters, and their disregard to any problem that doesn't affect their pasty asses. Indie community leaders like Baldurs gate should directly name and shame people who create racist content based on their games. They don't have to call out everyone who hates Wyll but calling out that one bastard that literally posted about killing him for racist reasons would be much better than silence. Gooseworx could do the same thing with the people posting themselves calling their character the n-word and their silence speaks volumes.

3. Creating something positive. If Vivziepop or Gooseworx actually cared about the communites harmed by the racists that the platformed and employed, they could show that by actually trying to be helpful towards those comments. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of small black creators that would literally kill for a speck of the clout that they gave to a racist. I'm not saying that they have to hire them but shouting out a few of them would create positivity in a community that's been subjected to such negativity.

Alternatively, Rebecca Sugar never really messed up that much to be considered a scandal but her choice to actively use her commercials that are aired on cartoon network to directly call our racism is literally the gold standard of allyship. Actions show our true feelings and her actions show that she is the only one that I've mentioned in this post who actually cares about us.

like thats the big thing, regardless of whether or not any of the individual transfem users who get banned Deserved those bannings, pointing out the double standard in where and when terms of service are actually held up is the big thing here. sometimes bigotry doesn't look like giving marginalized people consequences for No Reason sometimes bigotry looks like making sure marginalized people receive consequences for their actions overwhelmingly more frequently than privileged groups. deciding who you actually enforce your rules against is a big way this sort of thing manifests.
