I find it so exhausting when people say "it's just comedy/improv" to object to critiques of D20. Y'all are being so disrespectful to the craft and the skill the performers have by saying that. It's not "just" anything.

This is a post about D20 in general with the specific exclusion of Fae and Flowers which gets a pass because they were supposed to have more time but development hell ate half their expected runtime.

Seeing people go "well it's improv, obviously you can't expect the Intrepid Heroes to pay attention to how much time they have left in the season" again and, as someone who has improv training, I have to say - from the bottom of my heart - You don't know you're talking about.

All comedians, especially improvisors, have to keep an eye on the clock. Time management is one of the skills that separates a professional comedian from a bunch of amateurs goofing around in a summer theatre class. And while D20 is selling you the parasocial feeling that their performers are just friends hanging out and you're invited to join, the reality is that they are professional comedians. That they are genuinely friends is a bonus.

(In Stand-Up, for example, the host has approxiamately 10-15 minutes to warm up the audience, then you get a few sets by different performers which last 15-20 minutes, and then the headliner gets 45-60 minutes, with extra if they're huge like Robin Williams. And if you aren't the headliner and you go over your alloted time or can't wrap up in a satisfying way - usually by tying your last joke back to an earlier one? You're not invited back.)

Now, in improv if there is one performer whose job is effectively referee (Clive Anderson and Drew Carrey for Whose Line, Brennan for D20, etc) it is also their job to not add things there is no time for, but the rest of the performers have to do this as well.

If your show has to have a satisfying wrap up in X amount of time (whether that's filming time, number of episodes, or when the next comedian who a bunch of the audience paid to see is to come on stage) then it's your job to make sure your material - practised or improvised - stays within that allotted time.

"Brennan and The Intrepid Heroes can't be expected to wrap things up in the time they have". Brennan and The Intrepid Heroes are literally professional comedians. It's their job to be able to do that.

And when they repeatedly cannot do that - that says there's problems with the production as well as the performers.

Then may i ask, why watch it? It seems like you have a large, thought out opinion on all seasons having this same issue (except for fey of flowers, apparently). And it seems like a large enough opinion to make it not fun to watch d20. So why continue? Just to keep having an opinion?

Also, who said they HAVE to have a satisfying ending all wrapped up in a nice bow? Theres a reason telenovelas and soaps do well. Why shows like grey’s anatomy have overly long runs, plus spin offs, while having numerous plot holes, plots that just go nowhere, cliff hangers and abrupt season finales. People still enjoy it and are still willing to tune in. There is a huge audience for shows that will take up a good amount of time in your day and where it’s okay not to remember everything bc the people in charge of writing the story might not remember either.

I do not enjoy people disparaging the craft that goes into the show. My problem is not with the show, my problem is with people treating it like it's not something that can be analysed thoughtfully because it's "just comedy". I find myself sad for you, that you cannot imagine that someone can enjoy something and also see it's flaws, so you assume people having opinions is negative.

As for your reference to telenovellas and soaps? Really weird choice to come on to a post about the genre rules of the genre the show belongs to and say "yeah but these other genres have different rules and people like those genres". If you had a genuine good faith arguement you would not be relying on whataboutism.

Also, let's be extremely fucking clear here: rushed endings and production problems speak to overworked performers and overworked crew. That's something we should ALWAYS be critical of - especially with a company like Dropout, that claims to treat everyone very well.

I apologize for not being more eloquent with my words, it definitely looks like i took your post as a personal attack and thats not how i should conduct myself.

I was genuinely curious on your wanting to watch the show, frankly the way your original post is structured feels a bit less like you criticizing fans opinions and more quoting fans you disagree with, criticizing the comedians and how they use their professionalism in the show, and then quoting fans again. I completely agree it’s fine to critique shows you enjoy it just seemed like you were more interested in disparaging the show rather than criticizing fans disparaging your craft.

With the genres and shows i have listed, my viewpoint is that drama and comedy will always mix and it’s near impossible to separate the two and make it something entertaining. There aren’t d20 seasons that are complete comedy and there are seasons that lean more heavily on drama (nevermore, for example). Hamlet would not have been as good of a tragedy without it’s comedic scenes and Midsummer Night’s Dream would not been as good of a comedy without the dramatic stakes that brought them into the plot in the first place blah blah blah.

I didn’t give good examples. That is genuinely my bad. However, i think it’s also unfair to compare d20 to an improv show like Who’s Line Is It Anyway when there is so much writing and preparation involved, both in production and from the players. There are large improvisational elements, it’s not an improv show.

I’m not a film/tv girl. My education is in theater. You are right that rushed writing and production usually results in lower quality and i shouldn’t have spoken on it like I’m knowledgeable. I will stand on the fact that theres still an extremely large audience that is okay with plot holes and unsatisfying endings for portions of the plot. Frankly, i’m part of that audience. I’m not here for cocomelon brain rot, but i’m not going to analyze every scene for what is right and what is wrong with it. I also don’t do that within the field i am knowledgeable in, theres no fun in criticizing a theater production for things the majority audience won’t notice it or won’t care about, thats for actors and crew to hear about from their director post-show, not me.

Personally i’m not here to police how people play and what rules they follow, plenty of seasons have homebrewed mechanics in them anyways. I’m here to watch people i enjoy seeing gather around a table and have fun.

Could someone give me a quick run down of how many positions (prince, primogens, etc) there are in a city's Camarilla court and how many clans/types/subclasses??? of vampire there are (I know nosferatu and ...ventrue?) that would be expected to have a primogen in a city.

If you're writing anything involving cons, scams, heists, or morally questionable characters who are very good at lying, here are some free resources I've been using for research. Saving you the "why is this in my search history" anxiety.

1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.

2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.

3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.

4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.

5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.

Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.

This is leaving out the most crucial piece of why that was a normal reality: UNIONS. Union participation percentage is a measly 10% across all industries for the latest statistics in 2025. Unions are the ones who could fight against the requirement for everyone and their mother to need a minimum of a bachelor's degree. they could fight for working hours to be properly compensated so that the work week was actually 40 hours or less and everything over was actually paid for. The reality of the work place and why we work so much more for so much less is because we are not unionized. the reason europeans seem to have it so much better is because of their strong union culture. there are solutions to these problems and we need to stop obscuring the why.

The issue is some states just don’t have GOOD unions that make it worth it. I’m a labor worker and if i left my current company for a unionized one in the same trade, same position, and same city i’d be looking at a possible pay cut (depending on which one i go to), unpaid holidays, i would lose the education my company is paying for, and more likely than not i’ll be paying more for my insurance (our base health insurance for a single with no dependents is covered completely). These unions are also typically looking for someone with their journeyman’s license and 5 years already in the field, of which i have neither right now.

Like yes those that can should join unions and should push to make their unions better, but some of us can’t afford it because the standards are sometimes worse.

If I may go on a pissy little vent for a moment, I am really fucking tired of other Americans acting like Florida has already fallen totally to fascism, there are no Floridian leftists, and Florida can just be written off entirely as a "lost cause."

There are Black and brown and indigenous and Jewish and queer and disabled and countless otherwise marginalized Floridians, all fighting tooth and nail for our home and community. But everyone acts like we don't matter or should "just leave."

I love our beautiful swamps. I live our natural flora and fauna. I love my communities. I love queer Florida. I love my disabled Florida friends. I love my Floridian friends of color. I love the melting pot of culture my job has because Florida just has so many different people within it from all over the world. I hate my hometown’s history but love that our city council denounced our past with the coming of our first black city council member. I hate the hate I learned growing up but love the growth that bigger Florida cities have opened me up to. I love the growth my hometown has gone through. Baby steps, sure, but still huge. I love how complex Florida is. I love how complex my love for Florida is. I love my home state, it’s beautiful.

Please, never think that Florida is doomed. Never think that our marginalized communities are dead or fled. Thats thinking with covered ears and blindfolded eyes, we are soooo loud and soooo visible. We still make waves. Our ballots still count. We still fight for our right to live here with safety and respect, and since we’re still here you could say we haven’t quite lost the fight. Never count Florida out.

Had a good bit of people on insta asking for a POC hair rendering guide, so I made one! :) this is my first time making a guide, hopefully it makes sense.

I wanted to keep the rendering breakdown digestible, and for this to also be informative of POC hair as a whole. So some rendering bits like accounting for bounce lighting weren’t focused on just since this was meant to be more beginner friendly.

Please let me know there needs to be clarification for anything I tried my best to break it down to just 20 pages .
