watching a movie at home circa like, 2001 was like
put your TV on channel 2 so the VCR will work
open up the clamp shell case that held the VHS that has that satisfying crrlikkkkkk
put in the movie
gdi it has to be rewound
press STOP and then rewind because its so much faster that way
start the movie and it takes a few seconds for the movie to actually start cause you rewound to the VERY beginning
FBI will get you if you illegally distribute or exhibit this movie
and then. because you forgot that movies are always so much louder than TV
COMING SOON TO OWN ON VIDEO AND DVD
QUICK LOWER THE VOLUME LOWER THE VOLUME LOWER THE VOLUME OH FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay crisis averted.
although. these ads are kind of quiet. a little hard to hear.....
better turn up the volume...

Ma’am why do you have a raccoon in your house
i am not joking we need to force teach cooking in schools. like. it is an essential thing for survival. do you know how easy it is to make things if you know even the bare bones shit about how cooking works. we need to teach teenagers how far you can take an onion and some other veggies it’’s sad that people grow up not knowing how to prepare literally anything. and i’m not talking about oh this home ed class taught me how to make chicken nuggets at home i’m talking about learning the balancing of sweetness and acidity and saltiness and bitterness and shit like that and techniques and oil temperatures and how meats cook. it needs to be taught because it’s literally not even that difficult and it matters so much
i truly believe that knowing how to cook is a basic survival concept and the fact that so many people can’t even make simple dishes is depressing as hell this is the sorta thing that should be taught at a young age. being able to take the ingredients you have around your home and turn them into a meal is like, essential and will make life so much better. you don’t need to be a high end chef you just need to understand some things that can be easily taught… but then again maybe the education system is playing a roll against this and ultimately they want you to grow up to rely on mcdonalds for dinner. i don’t know. please learn how to cook for yourself if you’re able. i’m not asking you to hunt for specific ingredients to make some expensive youtuber’s “best” recipe but if you know the basics of cooking you can do a lot with cheap canned ingredients. cooking can be affordable i promise you just need to learn how to make do with what you can get
Can anyone point me towards resources that teach those basics cus I would LOVE to teach my child this stuff but i dont know how to cook
not comprehensive but heres some:
internet shaquille’s basics but especially:
making rice
making scrambled eggs
making oatmeal
levels of cooking meat
using & storing vegetables with recipes in the description (this one has a bit of Sassiness directed at people who dont like vegetables but the content is solid)
food safety + a recipe to demonstrate
how to learn to cook (just a list of subtopics, no actual tips)
cooking techniques playlist
how to cut x
basics with babish s1 & 2, but particularly:
freezer meals,
weeknight meals,
kitchen tools (although the specific suggestions are pretty expensive even with the lower end scale items the basic categories are solid, and you can evaluate what items you will realistcially need - eg. if you dont need to read temp for steaks etc the temp reader will not be relevant) &
kitchen care (mid-high advanced home cooking)
basic knife skills
picking the right pan for each recipe
j. kenji lopez-alt’s tips and tricks playlist
egg recipes
a little more complicated, involved, and longer than any of the rest of these but good breakdown of flavor & how and why to use the basic seasoning/flavor profiles
and then recipe channels representing various cuisines:
j. kenji lopez-alt (various)
marion’s kitchen (southeast & east asian, western/asian fusion)
maangchi (korean)
future neighbor (mostly korean)
the western supermarket playlist of chinese cooking demystified (more recipes available but these are accessible if you dont have “specialty” ingredients)
family recipes playlist by made with lau (chinese)
not another cooking show (various)
cooking with boris (bear with me here i know he does it exaggeratedly humorously but a lot of them are actually solid and beginner cook friendly. mostly slavic/russian)
you suck at cooking (also falls into the intentionally humorous category but most of the recipes are pretty solid anyway)
how to cook that (baking, also does debunking videos of viral cooking hacks - breaks down the reasons the hacks dont work, pretty important to understand those basics imo)
internet shaquille (various)
babish culinary universe (various)
i REFUSE to recommended joshua weissman because he is fucking insufferable but if you want you can try if you can deal with it, the techniques/recipes seem fine for the most part
again definitely not a comprehensive list but it touches on most of the basics
Find yourself a copy of this book:
It has recipes presented in a completely conversational tone so it reads almost like a cooking show transcript. It also organizes lots of information in plenty of tables and even illustrations. Also, the author and her descendents have been working on it and updating it since the 1930s, so that’s a whole century’s worth of cooking and baking to try out. To say it’s comprehensive is putting it lightly.
You can see the exact moment that he gets upset. It's not when he's been ridiculed. It's when young men, who don't know how to do any better and are literally killing themselves for lack of affection, are being ridiculed.
I've criticised Peterson in the past, but one thing I cannot say is that he doesn't care. The man has dedicated his life to psychology. He's an established and recognised therapist for a reason. He gives a shit, and that's pretty fucking important. And so many are so quick to dismiss him because vulnerable people have looked to him for hope of bettering themselves. Yeah, there are shitty people out there that get called "incel" and shit like that. But why shouldn't they deserve a chance at bettering themselves? Why should the disenfranchised be condemned to disenfranchisement for eternity?
Because they're marginalized men, and The Narrative has deemed them a threat, and outsiders. If people treat incels like human beings, then they can't be dehumanized and kicked to the kerb, and they can't be used as a boogeyman.
So Peterson's somehow bad for...trying to teach them how to get their life in order.
Being a scrawny and weird 5-year-old boy sucked. I went to a school I hated, got beat up by other kids and dealt with issues no kid that age should have to deal with. Not to say it was always miserable and that I didn’t have a *few* people to talk to and call “friends”, but for the most part, I learned at a very early age to go it alone.
My best memories from that time period was coming home to our house by the river, turning on the T.V and watching Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and Batman: The Animated Series on Fox Kids. Two separate worlds I could get lost in. Two worlds where anything could happen and two worlds where evil never triumphed. The villains and monsters always got their due and the bad guys never won.
Then I’d go outside, and pretend to be those heroes. I’d go to the river bank by our house, and practice my karate and crime fighting skills on trees. Using nearby sticks that served as my weapons, I’d strike the branches, kick at the roots with loud “HI-YAH”s, and strike at the river water that always gave way to whatever impact I introduced to it.
At the end of the day, I know that these are fairy-tales and myths made simply to pass the time but when you come home daily from an unforgiving world, they mean so much more.
Kevin Conroy and Jason David Frank were voices and faces of those times. They were talented human beings blessed enough to turn their passions to careers, but their passions inspired hope and bravery for those of us too little to fight our villains head-on like we wanted. They helped shape a world where good could win. Those stories kept me going and let me know I could survive another day of school, another day of getting beat-up, and verbally torn up.
Rest In Peace guys. Thank you for being there.
Just for once I’d like to tell the gate agents and flight attendants that my folding wheelchair is going into the onboard closet and not have them tell me there’s “no room”. Bitch that’s a wheelchair closet, not a “your bags” closet. Move your damn bags where they belong.
Ok, so according to my friendly aviation expert, this is a Big Fucking Deal. In fact, if an airline argues with you about putting your wheelchair in the wheelchair closet or even suggests there may not be room, unless there is already another passenger’s wheelchair in that closet, they have violated federal law.
CFR Title 14, Chapter II, Subchapter D, Part 382, Subpart E, Section 382.67, Subsection (e)
“As a carrier, you must never request or suggest that a passenger not stow his or her wheelchair in the cabin to accommodate other passengers (e.g., informing a passenger that stowing his or her wheelchair in the cabin will require other passengers to be removed from the flight), or for any other non-safety related reason (e.g., that it is easier for the carrier if the wheelchair is stowed in the cargo compartment).”
Source
This is hugely important because it means that if this happens to you, you should report their asses to the DOT. Why? Because these statistics are published every year for every airline, and the airline gets a huge ass fine for every violation. If we want to see change, we need to make airlines literally pay every time they treat us this way.
@annieelainey you should share this with your followers! This is important info!!
To my mutuals on wheels, print out the law before you fly and whip it out at the gate if they don’t accomodate your wheels.
Thanks a lot for posting this, bro! Flying while crippled is already difficult enough without people pulling this kind of shit. Also, make sure that if there is a piece of your wheelchair or something important missing off of it, that you make a big fucking deal out of it! I’ve had pieces fall off of my wheelchair and nearly lost a decoration I had on it that meant a lot to me because people were careless with my chair. Don’t let them mistreat your wheelchair.
Non-wheelchair folks:
Now that you know, speak up.
You never know when you’re going to see someone who needs an ally.
Reblogging for signal boost.
I’ve seen several posts recently about air-travel wheelchairs being damaged, improperly stored etc., so this info may prove useful.
NB that the OP and comments are USA-based; Euro followers should check to see if there’s an EU (and UK) equivalent.
>he doesn't know about the mass graves discovered in antarctica in 1973
Luke I need to know more
In 1973, researchers near McMurdo station discovered a mass grave after a small ice sheet melted after an unseasonal heat wave. The bones belonged to what appeared to be pygmies, humans of below-average stature. After about 10 weeks of continued research, they were "politely" asked to stop investigating the find by the government, and the incident has been covered up ever since.
My husband’s job primarily employs adult men but there is one (1) teenage girl and my husband said originally he worried she might be a bit of an outcast but instead every man on the crew was like “huh guess I am a dad/older brother now.”
She was in a car crash on the way to work one morning and called my husband to let him know she’d be late and he was like wtf guess I’m gonna be late too because I’m coming to pick you up and then he told his team and they were like I think you mean WE are coming.
Imagine you are a teenage girl probably rushing to get to work and you crash your probably new car and feel absolutely miserable and now you’ll be late to work but then suddenly in the distance a car full of all the adult men you work with just pulls up and is like “we came all the way here to pick you up” the mental image right now is fr.
Apparently she tried to call her dad but it was 3am and he was obviously sleeping so she called my husband and he not only came to find her but fished her glasses out of the hood of the car (she’d dropped them while looking inside), drove her to the hospital, and told her to take the day off. She insisted on coming back to work so he used his lunch break to watch TV with her to make sure she didn’t doze off (concussion risk).
You’ve heard of the Mom friend but my husband is very much the Dad friend. He said when he answered the phone she said “hey please don’t be mad” and he’s never felt such powerful Fatherhood energy in his life.
Girl: *calls for aid*
Every single dad packed into the car:
This is possibly my favorite response to this post
This girls father: Thanks for helping my daughter out guys
Your husband and all his coworkers:
Ants be like that
I used to keep track of the different ant colonies in my yard as a child and it was the wildest shit. You could tell the difference between colonies by colors & pattern if you looked closely enough. They’d stage ant wars on the sidewalks that lasted days, just ants murdering each other, and the cleanup afterwards would last days longer as the survivors pick up and carry away the carcasses. Once I saw a war happening between the colony that lived under the berry bush and a colony I didn’t recognize, and evidently the berry colony lost, because after the war their nest site was empty… and then a few days later was inhabited by the other colony that had fought them.
Once at a lake I saw an ant travel like 3 meters across flat rock carrying a dead ant, and he kept going until he got to the cliff side and then kept going down towards the water, and he didn’t stop until he got to where the rock was wet. Then he stood there for a few seconds, dropped the corpse into the water, waited a little longer, and then headed back the way he came. I feel like I witnessed a ceremony
“no other species fights itself” EXCUSE ME?! have you seen ANY OTHER SPECIES ON THE PLANET?!
like, these right here?
SPECIFICALLY grown to fight other deer
ever read about naked mole rats? ever seen what happens when a spider trespasses in another spider’s web?
Do you know why this guy has these teeth?
his diet is all leaves. The whole reason he has those teeth to fight other gorillas.
you know why llama’s have these teeth?
to castrate and maim other llamas.
You ever see what happens when two packs of wolves wind up in the same place at the same time? You think swans don’t fight each other?
just what do you think is happening here?
or here
or here
“no other species fights itself” are you new here!? have you ever been to earth?
sir, this planet is a death-rock populated by monsters descended from abominations, all with hearts full of murder and a special hatred reserved for those of our own kind that piss us off. WTF you been smoking
Ducks have been known to gang rape other ducks. (Source)
i think part of the reason lost media videos are so fun is that it more ethically scratches the same itch as true crime. a bunch of people online being amateur sleuths and going down rabbit holes is a lot easier to enjoy when theyre looking for a cereal commercial from 1991 instead of liike bothering the families of murder victims
Smart
Okay fuck it if this post reaches 666k notes by the end of 2023 I'll practise basic self care
Why 666k? Because it's funny and impossible so good fucking luck
