Adventures of Oliver Twist

I am on a tumblr "leave of absence" as of September 25th 2015. I do not know when I will be back. If you unfollow I understand. Oliver Twist "Ollie" is a two year old Dutch Shepherd x Border Collie. He's my babby agili-dog in training! We live in some area somewhere. I also have two other dogs, Zeke and Jax, as well as two pet rats and a bunny. I am always looking to follow new (drama-free) dog blogs, just shoot me a message :) WARNING: I am pro responsible rescue and breeding, pro s/n choice, pro intentional hybrid. Update

So sorry that I haven’t posted on this blog in so long. I’m trying to wean my addiction to my laptop. (It’s been pretty unsuccessful.) I thought I would post a quick update on Ollie while I thought of it.

Ollie’s foot/grass allergy problem is almost healed. The vet gave us what she called a “miracle drug” and it was just that. He does not actively train in agility because I found that while he enjoyed some obstacles, there were others that he was unfond, albeit scared of and making no progress with. After talking with our instructor, we decided he might thrive better with a different sport. He is currently training in Rally O and competing as early as this March. He loves it more than he ever liked agility, so we are sticking with it even after his health issues were resolved. His reactivity is not at its worst, but definitely not at its best either. I myself am going to college in the fall so I may not be able to train with him as much as I would like. We’ll see how things go. (P.S. I do post on my Instagram, sidonie.maxwell, because I know everyone is dying to get more regular updates on my life.)

This is a statue to commemorate a brave little dog by the name of Leo, who died while saving a little 10-year-old girl who was being attacked by a much larger dog. Leo witnessed the little girl being pinned to the ground by the dog who began biting her. Leo immediately ran to the rescue and began biting the bigger dog on the leg who turned on Leo and let the girl go free. Sadly, Leo was killed.

The statue is located in a park in Serbia so he can watch over all of the children playing. There is a quote underneath that reads “To all small heroes with big hearts,” which is a true testament to the courageous nature of little Leo.

Color Morph Series: Harlequin Beauceron

The Beauceron comes in two different acceptable coat colors.   The most common color is black and tan also known as bas rouge (red stockings) […] The other coat color is grey, black and tan, more commonly known as harlequin. The harlequin has the same black and tan base coat, but they also have grey mixed in.  In the US they might be called a merle.

The base colour (the diluted parts) on a merle can vary greatly, from a very pale “powder blue” to a dark grey with a ticking pattern on the grey areas, known as a muddy merle or ticked merle. A “muddy” base coat is fairly common in Beaucerons. Interestingly, merle Beaucerons are known as “harlequins”. This simply comes from a French term and is not related to the true harlequin patterning seen in Great Danes.

Forreal, there’s no way a true responsible breeder would demand and accept payment before the potential buyer ever even SEES their dogs. And the fact that they call health testing “private information” like wtf we want to know what kind of health tests you give your dogs, not their complete medical history?? What’s even worse about this breeder is that they lie. I could respect them if they at least told the truth and said “no, we don’t health test” instead of “what tests do you want to know about?” and then saying “it’s private information” when inquired further, and having people pay a deposit before even visiting the dogs like seriously…they don’t know how ignorant they sound to people who are seriously looking for a dog. I would at least feel sorry for them if they didn’t give themselves 5 star reviews to balance out the negative ones they’re been getting today!

I looked into getting a longhaired weim from here, but not for long. They're sketchy as shit. I read one woman's story where she brought her dog back for boarding because she was in an unfortunate situation and needed the dog to be cared for for a while. Chatham Hill Kennels told her they would care for the dog but when she came back to get it, they had sold the dog to another person.

My trainer says that connecting with other folks in a similar situation helps a ton, and I totally agree, so I’d like to make some new friends! If I haven’t followed you back, now’s your chance! Ollie is very reactive towards other dogs when confined (on a leash occasionally, in the car, the yard). It’s frustrating and embarrassing because I know he’s not aggressive, just scared, but other people think differently. He’s also scared of just about everything a dog could be scared of - cars, hands, tall people, the dustbuster, even his hiking bell sometimes. We’re working on it lol.

Ollie is a disaster. He’s got an allergy. To fucking grass. So he’s been chewing his itching feet and causing them to become raw and bald. And he won’t do jumps in agility because landing hurts his feet. He’s on Benadryl and antibiotics, fingers crossed my dog can go back to normal soon.
