happy 2nd birthday to chester! i can’t believe it... i swear he was just a floofy baby potato 😭

also that awesome cake is from Okra & Molly! I got one from them last year for his 1st birthday and now I’m completely obsessed with their cakes.

2020 was a weird year but we still managed to have some fun:

- Chester started dock diving over the summer and earned two titles

- Finley & Chester both earned their Rally Novice titles through the AKC’s virtual program

- Scarlett & Chester went to a scent work trial and both of them did great & had fun

- Samson continued enjoying “retirement” and also started on Metacam and is feeling like a spritely young lad again

- had way too much fun celebrating Tr*mp losing the election (if you are a 45 supporter and are somehow following me, please perform a Don’t immediately)

- Chester & I went to our first agility trial together and he did awesome, 3 Q’s & 3 first place finishes (second in 20” Novice FAST going to Marvel!)

- started doing tracking with Chester and he loves it

- right before the year ended Finley & Chester started going to barn hunt lessons and are both doing well

- last but not least, managed to pull off probably my favorite christmas photo yet

I definitely didn’t accomplish everything I wanted to dog-sport-wise this year, but I guess surviving a global pandemic and all the stress that came with it is a pretty big feat in and of itself.

Hope you all made it out of 2020 unscathed as well, and here’s to hoping for a less catostrophic 2021!

Lil update since y'all helped me get her.

Taika is 6 months old now and we've been working a lot on polishing obedience more, and have started some very minor service task training!

She's doing super well with it, and is just an awesome dog. She plays so nicely with Roo, and absolutely loves training sessions. Already she's great at focusing and doing what I ask under distraction. We've got a lot of work still to do, of course, but she's got remarkable potential.

Also she's currently chewing on my hand.

She is a puppy.

I see a lot of dogblr pet/service dogs, but not many sports dog dogblrs. Anyone do sports with with pups? Agility, dock diving, frisbee, nosework, barnhunt, fastcat, and rally-o are my tops!

Started Luna in agility class, we’ll see how well this goes 😉 and she’s got dock diving competition end of the month, woot!

we do lots of trick training (i’m a CGC/Trick Dog evaluator for AKC and a Certified Instructor with Do More With Your Dog) but we also do nose work, agility, coursing sports, and will hopefully get into doing some dock diving & barn hunt when this pandemic stuff dies down. we’ve also been doing some training for competition obedience & rally.

i’m a CPDT-KA & work at a training facility (though not currently bc #coronatime) where I work mostly with pet people working on basic manners and such. I have my own business for doing one-on-one training too for behavioral issues so... lots of general Dog Stuff happening over here!

in this webinar i’ll be covering:

- some basic photography & editing tips

- how to proof a better stay for photos

- adding duration & distance to known behaviors to make taking photos of your dog thwhen you’re by yourself that much easier

- live training demos to teach a few basic tricks that make for adoptable photos such as catching a treat, sit pretty, chin rest, wave, holding an item, and jumping over or onto an object

this is meant for beginners who just want to get better at photographing their dog, so having a DSLR is not necessary. the things I will be going over can be useful for smartphones as well!

Hey friends! Question for y’all...

So i’m putting together a webinar on tips & tricks for taking better photos of your dog. This is aimed at pet people, not photography enthusiasts.

Here’s what i’m thinking of covering:

- proofing stays

- getting behaviors from a distance (so you can be in position for the photo and then cue the dog to do a cute trick like “chin” or “sit pretty” or w/e)

- adding duration to behaviors

- briefly going over how to teach a few cute tricks for photos (thinking chin/head rest, hold an object, maybe sit pretty and/or jumping over an object for an “action shot”)

- some very very basic photography tips that would be useful whether you’re using a phone or a camera (as well as including some free/cheap editing apps and very basic editing tips)

My question(s) for you folks:

1) is there anything you think should be covered in this type of webinar that I haven’t mentioned

2) is this something you/people you know/avg dog owners would be interested in taking

ps i’ll definitely share here when the webinar is ready to go in case anyone is interested. we’ll probably be selling the recording afterward as well.
