Cobus Style
Hello, people who see this crop up on their dashes from time to time.
There haven't been any posts in quite a while to say the least, partly because Cobus hasn't posted a cover in two months or so. I say 'partly' because, while I could make graphics, gifs or something similar, my Photoshop, drawing and general art skills are terrible. Disgusting. Deplorable. So bad, one could say a lack of talent has coalesced around my being and become infinitely dense, transforming my person into a black hole of pure suck.
Anyway--I intended to make this blog a sort of highlight reel of his sexiest covers, but in light of the recent cover shortage, I'll just have to start posting everything. It's no big deal of course--everything the man does is awesome beyond belief--but I felt like letting you all know. Not to imply he's taking a break, of course; Cobus has been really busy lately developing The Cobus Method, his own drumming system based on playing by ear. I've no experience of it myself, but this reviewer seems rather taken with it.
If anyone feels like making badass Cobus graphics, fanart or anything along those lines, feel free to submit. It doesn't even have to be 'along those lines'--a scale figure made entirely of brownie sounds pretty badass. As does a life-size papercraft. Just sayin'.
Don’t isolate yourself, every single person has bad days and struggles and issues. We’re all equally human.

30 Seconds To Mars--Kings And Queens
Really should've reblogged this before I Miss You, but oh well. One word really stands out here: 'powerful'.
Boyce Avenue & Cobus Potgieter--I Miss You (Originally by Blink-182)
While the cover isn't what I'd call typical Cobus, it is a collaboration, and the drums remain classy throughout without detracting from a beautiful vocal part by Boyce Avenue's Alejandro Manzano. One could argue that the drums and vocals are a little upbeat for a song which, in its original iteration, is rather sober; such criticism is valid, but I happen to love both versions for different reasons. The fill at 2:48 in the cover is just plain sexy, while I prefer Mark's original, deeper vocal part. And I'm sorry if you're a Blink fan--even more so than usual, since you've waded through this wall of mediocre text--but Tom's singing in the original is something I'd gladly replace with Alejandro's voice. His tone just isn't sensitive enough for the lyrics and melody... or perhaps I just find his voice grating. *Please don't kill me*
Dat uppercut
^^This is pure, unadulterated awesome and I love you.

I can do this. I can’t do it as well as Cobus can, no where near, but I’m getting there. :)
Cobus Potgieter DVD Vlog #1
Not drums, still awesome.
Chumbawumba-- Tubthumping
The description on youtube doesn't quite do it justice; this is honestly one of his best just for the sheer musicality of his playing. Listen out for a ridiculously sexy pre-chorus groove.
