I’ve watched Coco and it’s great, muuuuuch better than its trailers XP

But could it be… the last original animated movie from Disney? :O

Next years there’ll be just sequels and live actions >/ Well… it’s Dia de Muertos for Disney’s animation

Disney might own Pixar, but the two work seperately on films and I think that’s really important to keep in mind.

As for Pixar, it is true that next year they are only releasing incredibles 2 and in 2019 they are releasing Toy Story 4, however if you check the wikipedia page, they have 2 supposedly original untitled as of now movies set to release, as well as 2 more that are claimed to being worked on for after that. So long answer short no Coco won’t be the last original Pixar film.

Disney is a bit harder to find solid information on their upcoming films, but I think it’s important to note that the animation department and the live-action department aren’t the same thing. All the live-action disney movies are being made by film crews and hense won’t interfere with anything the animators are working on. And while it’s also true that Disney is releasing a bunch of sequels this go around, you can also see on their wiki page, all the untitled upcoming films they’re working on.

Until animated movies stop making money or get whipped out of existence there will always be incoming new animators with bright new ideas and older animators still trying to get their stories told. It takes a long time to create an animated movie, modeling, texturing, rigging, etc. If I had to guess, it should theoretically take less time to make a sequel because they already have the assets, they already built the world now they just need to make a new story which may involve new characters and props, but if you have your main cast already thought out it’s still ought to be faster.

Tldr; as long as there is animation studios in this world, there will always be new content it just takes a long time to build a new world

it’s also worth noting that planning some of these stories out and doing pre-production can sometimes take several years, only to never see the light of day in the form of an announcement. Disney and Pixar are extremely good about keeping things under wraps, and their artists are contractually bound to never speak of it unless the company specifically gives them the OK to do so. Clips of shots an animator may have worked on have to be approved by the company just to show during student guest lectures, even for unused shots. I can only imagine how much stricter it is for any of them to show stuff in normal social media from things that haven’t been announced, or are currently being worked on, let alone things that have already been released.

The new stories are there and being crafted- it’s just that we aren’t going to be told about any of them until they’re absolutely confident that the story will be strong and live up to their standards.

Now I see how imprecise I was while writing that post XP Because of course I don’t think Disney will never make a new original movie! It was rather about last original animated movie in the near future. Until now there was something new every year... And sequels weren’t release as often as now, not to mention live actions (I don’t like live action personally)

I'm working on my comics and my diploma animation lately and I've missed digital painting! XP I've thought about painting an island since September, when I was on a camp at the lake. It was cold, I was sitting on the lakeshore and sketching.
