I see so much of myself in Imelda. However, I don’t know if it’s a good thing. I’m hard and stubborn like she is. I scare everyone when I’m only trying to help. My partner left me and I hide me pain with pride. I used to sing as well but I don’t anymore. I want to give myself the benefit of the doubt that someday perhaps I’ll overcome my bitterness and sing again the way Imelda did.

So I just realized the subtle foreshadowing use of purple in this movie???

Purple is widely known as the color of royalty, so it’s of course appropriate that it be Imelda’s main color. She’s the family matriarch, more of less its “queen”. No one else in the family, dead OR alive (or really the entire cast!), wears it.

Like I’m seeing lots of pink here but no purple, except for Imelda. So it makes her stand out even if we don’t make that mental link.

But wait! There IS another member of the cast who wears purple!!

Hiding in plain sight from his very first scene! In a visual cue that immediately ties him to Imelda even if we don’t know it yet! “Royalty” is the last word you associate with him by looking at him but that’s thanks to excellent character design and character writing! Pixar, you pack of sneaky little foxes!!

Like, I know a few of us have wondered why they couldn’t have put Héctor in some different clothes at the end, and I feel like this was why they didn’t. He’s the same Héctor we’ve always known, but now he’s retaken his place at Imelda’s side as the forefather of this big, beautiful family and strangely enough, he fits right in.

I feel like it’s also worth noting that if you look up color symbolism for the Day of the Dead specifically, purple symbolizes grief, suffering, and mourning.

Yes, I’m joining the Inktober of this year as much as possible (I still have work from the art school) I’ll start with a little gift for a very beloved friend, @vanessafangirl13. 😊 A little touching moment between Héctor and Imelda. I also took the liberty to show a little their inner skull, like if they were under x rays light. 😂 C'mon, let me do what I want! Made at October 1st of 2019 with pencil and pen.

I want to watch CoCo, but I’m really scared to because I know that this film is about a little boy who played guitar when his parents don’t approve. I always wanted to play guitar never did in my childhood and my family didn’t support my passion for music. I got my first guitar at 25 and immediately fell in love with it. I’m scared to watch CoCo because I don’t want to feel guilty for not going after my dream in my childhood. So many years have passed that I could have spent with my favorite instrument and I can never go back.
