As the saying goes, the difference between having nothing and having a billion dollars is a billion dollars.
The difference between having a million dollars and having a billion dollars is also a billion dollars.
That million is 0.1% of the billion dollars; it's a literal rounding error.
And for the lady, perhaps reassurance without having to ask for it?

I'm up to the "I dunno maybe children working 13 hour shifts is bad, guys" part of Capital and it feels important to inform people that haven't read it yet that capitalists in the 19th century were not by any means wringing their hands and twirling their mustaches about employing children to squeeze out profits, they were hiring "experts" to write newspaper articles for them, explaining how "well, the socialists have these big demands about an 8-hour work day, and taking Saturdays off, but it's actually just so complicated, it's too complicated for most people to understand, we just NEED to hire children for night shifts because the stamina of their strong, youthful bodies is the only way we can survive as a business! It's science, you see. Economics doesn't work like that, just ask our economics professors at Oxford. You CAN'T turn a profit only working people 8 hours! Trust the experts, they know. It's just so complicated..."
That exact infuriating cadence that you read in New York Times articles, in the Atlantic Monthly, in the WaPo and all the other bourgeois rags where "everything is so complicated, and it's actually a lot more complicated than you think.." that has been around since the beginning. It is nothing new. So the next time you see some op-ed from Matt Yglesias or any of those other guys huffing their own farts about how "complicated" everything is, and how "unrealistic" a 30-hour work week is, remember that Marx was dealing with that exact class of "intellectuals" "explaining" how working 13 hours at age 10 was "vital" to the "moral fibre" of those poor kids.
I would be interested to read your essay about how much time they spend on unnecessary characters who are only a priority for the showrunners 👀
I can do that without a problem. But I'm more likely to disappoint you, since I'm unlikely to say anything new or constructive without favoritism. I obviously have my favorites.
The show simply chose the wrong storytelling path from the start. RC in an attempt to be "original," overcomplicated things, and they has been widely discussed, so I don't think I'll say anything new. But there's one obvious truth: they shouldn't have made Alicent and Rhaenyra peers and best friends. This should have been a story about a completely different rivalry. About Rhaenyra and Aegon. The emphasis should have been on siblings, children, and so on. But it's as if they've artificially created a ship in an attempt to be trendy, etc., but it's as if they don't understand how shipping works at all LOL
I don't want to anger shippers of this couple now. Of course, they are attractive in their own right, etc., and I liked them at first, so I have no problem with the OTP itself. I have problems with how it's presented and how the characters are developed in the show. Because Alicent is absolutely inconsistent and inconsistent. I haven't read the books, although, like many things, I know roughly what happens. And I think the showrunners still haven't figured out her character. Despite everything, I like "evil" characters (hello, Aemond and Aerion). And if they had left Alicent as is, I don't think it would have hindered her popularity or pairing. People are perfectly capable of creating their own fanon and living perfectly well with the canon that exists in the show. But that's the problem. The showrunners took their fanon and decided to make it canon in the show. And they ruin everything around them.
It also interferes with Rhaenyra's character. What really captivated me about her was her strength and love for children. I also experienced the loss of a child (intrauterine death of the fetus), and seeing someone like me on screen ultimately connected with her. I loved the lengths she went to for her children, and I felt absolute solidarity with her. And seeing how the loss of her daughter and Luke's brutal death are devalued for the sake of "old-time love"—I don't know how to explain it. Yes, Alicent didn't kill them, but she was involved. She was the one who led the years of persecution, oppression, and terrorization of her and her children. I don't understand how this can be forgiven. I think the showrunners completely misunderstand the power of a mother's love. No matter what first love, no matter how passionate, desired, etc., but at that moment, when I lost my children because of such a person, that person would never exist in my life again, nor would I have any feelings for them. I would only want revenge, which is what Rhaenyra must bear now. But apparently I'm the only one experiencing such emotions. And in the show, Rhaenyra and Alicent certainly love each other and are still drawn to each other (dead children be damned, lol). So yes, the showrunners' priorities are quite obvious.
I also don't understand the heavy emphasis on Criston Cole. He may have played a significant role in the books, but in the show, even without him, little would have changed. Sorry not sorry.
So, overall, it's the problem of trying to create something original that ruins the show. Of course, external factors played a role, significantly shortening the episodes, and under these constraints, it's hard for them to prioritize correctly. Initially, it would have been better for Season 1 to avoid time jumps, but then they went all-in on trying to keep everyone interested. And instead of emphasizing existing couples and building on them, they create their own. Instead of focusing on consistent character development, they shorten, remove, or simply change them. I understand that the books are just a collection of rumors and so on, but choose something from what's offered! Stop reinventing the wheel when it's already been created. But they can't stop.
I'll try to briefly write out my complaints, or better yet, try to remember what I was most dissatisfied with from Seasons 1 and 2.
- Alicent and Rhaenyra's peers
- the first time jump, where we ultimately skipped Alicent and Rhaenyra's rise to power and the formation of their families
- more Harwin and Rhaenyra
- little interaction between Rhaenyra and her siblings (or rather, their fucking absence)
- exaggerated victimhood of Aemond, mocked by Jace and Luke (the devil worked hard, but the greenies did it even worse lol. Their propaganda was intensified and they still try to instill the idea that the Strongs were the problem, not Aegon. Not to mention the showrunners generally made him a victim, when it's clear from Alicent's upbringing that he was little different from Aegon, only slightly quieter due to the lack of a dragon. Overall, their relationship needed more attention, but we still got the bare minimum)
- little exploration of the siblings' relationships as adults (the Strongs and Hightowers)
-Daemon's unstable character
-Daemon's relationship with his daughters
-more Baela and Rhaena
-a big focus on Luke, who's going to be killed, damn it. They could have shown more of his personality before his death
-fuck whoever decided to pair Alicent and Criston Cole
-fuck Criston Cole
-where's my pact of ice and fire?!? How could they completely screw up Jace and Cregan's storyline
-not enough, not enough Jace! He's going to die soon, why not reveal more?!?
- Jace and Baela aren't enough! They're engaged! (There's Alicent and Criston's sex, Daemon and his mother, but not a single kiss between these two? Damn it!)
- Damn this whole Daemon-at-Harrenhal storyline, a complete waste of screen time.
- Does anyone remember Luke was killed? and the murder of Jaehaerys?!?
- Joffrey?
-Rhaena?!?
-Daeron?!?!?
- Alicent and Rhaenyra running to each other... I'll say nothing.
- I was also amused/confused by the actors' promos/interviews, who said a lot of things that ultimately didn't make sense for the show. It's like sometimes they don't even understand who they're playing or where they're playing. I can understand a certain vision of a character, but when they're making up a plot on the fly—why? Perhaps this did happen but didn't make it into the final edit, but I'd still rather see the story on screen than hear it from the actors. That's the point of the show: to tell us a story, and I'm capable of making up some of the details myself. Oh, I've written quite a bit. I hope you're pleased.
(p.s. sorry for my bad English, I tried to write correctly)
