nah, don’t worry. Not you.
❋✞ That odd mix of relief and horror.
the last days literally sucked. Probably he will go kill someone to make his mood better as soon as he is out of this place. A red-haired someone, if possible.
i’d like to thank you for my fear i’ve used it well, i trust nobody here
( but i’m not the same as you )
21 ; Ryuu and Dante.
21. the pretender
❋✞ His mind seemed to be as fuzzy as his vision, thoughts sticking to the inside of his skull like syrup. For some reason he couldn’t seem to remember where he was, or how he had gotten there, or anything at all. When he tried to get up from the bed (it wasn't his, he was very sure it wasn't his), he fell, his body inexplicably difficult to control. Every following attempt to raise himself from the floor ended in a failure, the male too disorientated to tell what was up and what was down. How long of pressing his head into the wooden boards before he realised?
Whose blood was that?
Somehow he managed to find the edge of the bed to support himself, parts and bits of memories returning without making too much sense. What had he been doing, again? Something important, something incredibly important, but he just couldn’t recall it. Important, so very important, yet all he could think about were the metallic taste in his mouth and the way everything swayed and blurred in front of him. Slowly he began to understand that not the room, but his head was swaying, lolling from side to side as if it had simply become too heavy for him to bear.
Forward, he needed to move forward. Had he been running from something, or towards something? Forward. Nothing good would come from staying, that much he knew. That much he was certain of. The boy wasn’t even halfway the room when his body hit the floor again, and this time it wouldn’t let him get up to try again. So he crawled instead, commanding weak limbs to move and drag him forward. Forward. The door, how was he going to open the door? Where was he going again?
His problem was easily solved, the door swinging open before he had even reached it. There was a man, his eyes wide (what did that remind him of?) and concerned when they found him there. Ryuu tried to speak, but his tongue was as heavy as the rest of his body, leaving him unable to produce anything more than a miserable rasp. He was answered with comforting words that he can’t quite make out. Hands reached down and touched him, ever so gently, yet he felt the strange impulse to shiver. His stomach seemed to contract when he was lifted up, though there should really be nothing worrying about the gesture.
There was nothing he could do when he was carried back to the bed he had so desperately been trying to escape. Why, again?
More words were whispered to him, something about dreams and how he was awake now. How he was safe. Nightmares, then? The hurt, the loss, none of it had been real. He had been sick, he had been having fever dreams…
Trust me.
Yet in spite of the kindness in the man’s smile, he felt so horribly afraid. The corner of those lips was turned just a bit too far upwards, the shade of those eyes was just a bit too vivid red. And when Dante kissed his temple, Ryuu could feel fingertips against the many traces of crusted blood on his chest.
it was an even stranger request, but Irial was already aware of Ryuu’s loathing. It would not be hard for him to keep it well in his mind. “Fine. Not touching. I got it.” He made a first step, then stopped again before laughing. “You won’t offend me if you don’t think about it all the time. It’s better for me this way too.” Also because it was not nice to sit next to someone nervous because he keeps picturing you slaughtering people.
❋✞ It had very little to do with loathing, really. He had enjoyed physical contact, once, and sometimes he still did, though that usually required special arrangements and at least a small amount of trust. Irial’s laugh might have been refreshing had it not been for the... unfortunate subject. Ryuu pushed out a breath between his lips. “I murdered someone once,” he confessed, at once overwhelmed with a confusing mix of relief and guilt. Now where did that come from?

eyebrows were narrowed in a skeptical expression. How lovely it was when people mistrusted him that way. He had to admit they were right - because of his odd behavior he couldn’t be considered the best person to rely on - yet he had expected Ryuu to trust him a little more, and instead—ah, never mind. Caring about the others’ opinion about him had never been one of his favorite ways to pass the time nor would ever be. If he actually started doing it he would end up doing nothing at all.
”Why, thank you. Such words really warm my heart up,” was replied in a sarcastic tone. A hand ran through red - red, not black? - hair as he leaned against the wall. If he were the smoking type he would probably light a cigarette to recollect his thoughts and think about what to do next. Luckily he wasn’t, or he would have to bear Ryuu’s complains about him poisoning his body. And this wasn’t what they needed at the moment.
”Think about it. We can have a shower together and be as quick as possible, or not have it at all and smell like two waste bins until everything is back to the normality.” And what if they were going to be stuck in the other’s body forever? He didn’t even want to think about such an option. He wanted his body back, his tiny, fragile body; inhabiting Ryuu’s was like controlling one of those giant robots anime were full of. Terrible.
Even if a part of him was still grinning at the idea of all the things he could do, another was starting being bothered by that last option. A sigh. “I guess we have no choice.”
❋✞ It was hardly anything personal, of course-- Ryuu had a hard time trusting anyone in general, and on top of that he had a keen nose for particularly suspicious individuals. Irial being one of those. Not to mention he seemed to have become some kind of magnet to malicious inhuman beings. That thought sparked another one, something that hadn’t crossed his mind before. Would he be left alone now that he had a different body? So far he had been entirely occupied with how uncomfortable he felt, but... perhaps it was not so bad after all. He nervously pressed his tongue against the back of his teeth. His new, perfect teeth.
“You can pretend it’s just an excuse to get you in the shower with me,” he replied absently, not really listening to what Irial was saying. At any other time, he might have felt bad about expressing his distrust, regardless of the fact he knew it wasn’t exactly misplaced. Truth be told, he wouldn’t have minded skipping the showering, never having been very fond of it in the first place. One look at the other’s (his own?) face, however, told him that Irial wasn’t all that happy with the change either. Oh, great. Now he really was starting to feel guilty. What was he, some kind of idiot?
Still trying to figure out what was the most efficient method of moving his new limbs, he turned back around to continue his way to the bathroom, brows knitted together in a frown. “It’s just, it’s weird. I’m sorry, okay?” The apology sounded strange to his ears, partly because he couldn’t get used to the voice, partly because apologizing to Irial was an oddity in general.
A very PLEASANT nightmare. Don’t forget to mention that, have you not missed us?
❋✞ Ah, right. Of course.
Ah, look who we have here!
❋✞ Just woke up and already stuck in a nightmare.
Maybe he should, maybe he shouldn’t. It’s up to him–both choices work perfectly fine for this one.
❋✞ Splendid, in that case he might as well just go to work.
And for some reason, she has a craving for turkey. Is it thanksgiving yet?
❋✞ And the bad feeling only gets worse...
How very strange because Dante is suddenly feeling really good.
❋✞ Maybe he should just call in sick today.
❋✞ For some reason he’s getting a really bad feeling.
