How do I stop emotionally binge eating I’ve gained 18 pounds 😭
As someone who also has had horrible coping mechanisms (and still have a few), it's best to find something else to do instead when you get like that. Try picking up a hobby or just a regular every day task to do. When you get in that headspace, instead of binging, clean. Or take up knitting. Or start journaling. Once you find a healthy outlet for your emotions, it gets easier and easier to leave the bad habits behind.
While we're at it, I would avoid keeping junk food in the house. Don't buy food that is easily "bingeable". When you're in that headspace, it's much easier to inhale several bags of chips vs the salad ingredients you have in your fridge.
One aspect of the Black maternal death crisis that nobody discusses is the problem of overwork. Black women work too much...often on their feet, overtime, irregular hours, and for low pay. This is unhealthy for anyone but even worse for someone who is pregnant since growing a baby is a full-time job in its own right.
Then you add financial and interpersonal stress...not having enough money for bills/ rent, not having a supportive partner/ family, etc and things are even worse.
Yes, Black women get treated differently at the hospital but inequity starts way before that and derives from white supremacist capitalism. My guess is if you solved Black women's stress and let them put up their feet and be served instead of serving others that a lot of these health issues would be solved.
I've been meaning to talk about this! Black motherhood should NOT be about struggle! When Black moms are healthy and happy so are our babies!
It’s also not just financial stuff — black mothers and newborns have worse health outcomes during/after childbirth even when you control for income. Shalon Irving was a an epidemiologist with a PhD who was studying this herself and she died from childbirth complications too. An anecdote is not data ofc, but the data shows it too.
This post wasn't about financial stuff mainly. It's about rest and leisure...which is related to money but not guaranteed even if you have money. That's why I personally believe Black women have worse outcomes across income. Black women don't have the ability to sit down and just stay there. And leisure and rest are very important to healthy pregnancies.
Im nt having kids if I cant have a day and night doula dont care what anybody says. Thts y Im pro black woman nt working all day everyday ppl hate housewives bt thts what I plan to be
I’m going to be a doula and have one.
