The Future of Human Spaceflight
NASA released a new interactive infographic that attempts to give a picture of future of human spaceflight activities and where NASA might be going. The new Space Launch system and the Orion MPCV figure prominently in going to future destinations such as the Moon, Mars, Asteroids and even LaGrange Points.

No .. they haven’t, but that was never the point. Those who used the phoney ‘war on terror’ to legitimize riding rough-shod over civil rights and the constitution, turning America into a surveillance state, won. Those who used ‘terrorism’ as an excuse for foreign wars of choice that the public wouldn’t have otherwise supported won. Those who’ve make fortunes out of the unnecessary foreign wars and the vast ‘terror industry’ at home and abroad won. They’re the winners. The American people are the ones who lost, along with the hundreds of thousands dead in the middle-east who lost even more.
I noticed a Stumbleupon ‘news flash’ today saying .. “We plan to start migrating everyone into the new StumbleUpon design in early March”. So now we know.
Thats the point at which the crippled, barren shell of what was once a vibrant community becomes totally unusable. That’s when they switch to...

Up the East Coast of North America
This video was taken by the crew of Expedition 30 on board the International Space Station. The sequence of shots was taken January 29, 2012 from 05:33:11 to 05:48:10 GMT, on a pass from just southwest of Mexico to the North Atlantic Ocean, northeast of Newfoundland.
European nighttime
Parts of a number of European nations appear in this nighttime image taken from the International Space Station in Feb. 2, 2012. The scene shows the British Isles (left, partially obstructed by one of the space station’s solar array panels) with London just right of bottom center; the English Channel, which is dark; Paris (lower right corner); and the Netherlands (right side). The greenish airglow is fairly uniform and minor until it transitions to daybreak on the right.
Richard "Lord British" Garriott video game designer (and creator of the Ultima franchise of PC games) story of his $30 million trip to the International Space Station (lucky bastard)! See here for the story.
A new global treaty, ACTA, could allow corporations to police what we do on the Internet. Last week we successfully pushed back the US censorship bills A.C.T.A. and P.I.P.A. -- if we act now, we can get the EU Parliament to bury this new threat -- add your voice now!

NASA eyes plan for deep-space outpost near the Moon
NASA is pressing forward on assessing the value of a “human-tended waypoint” near the far side of the moon — one that would embrace international partnerships as well as commercial and academic participation.
According to a Feb. 3 memo from William Gerstenmaier, NASA’s associate administrator for human exploration and operations, a team is being formed to develop a cohesive plan for exploring a spot in space known as the Earth-moon libration point 2 (EML-2).
Libration points, also known as Lagrangian points, are places in space where the combined gravitational pull of two large masses roughly balance each other out, allowing spacecraft to essentially “park” there. A pre-memo NASA appraisal of EML-2, which is near the lunar far side, has spotlighted this destination as the “leading option” for a near-term exploration capability.
EML-2 could serve as a gateway for capability-driven exploration of multiple destinations, such as near-lunar space, asteroids, the moon, the moons of Mars and, ultimately, Mars itself, according to NASA officials. A capabilities-driven NASA architecture is one that should use the agency’s planned heavy-lift rocket, known as the Space Launch System, and the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle “as the foundational elements.”

I'd rather see them put some radio telescopes on the dark side of the moon first, but this is a cool concept (shame we'll probably never see funding for this though).
