Reuniting With An Old Friend
Reuniting with an old friend has many emotions.
With one word you flashback to a plethora of old conversations
With one smile you are brought to a collage of all the happiest moments you spent with them
With one laugh you are brought to a cornucopia of pleasures the two of you shared
With all of the great memories you are put back with the thought of why the two of you fell so far apart
You remember how destructive they were to your morale and self-esteem
You remember how hard you tried to stitch yourself up and run to take care of them because you knew that they were hurting
You knew that they needed reassurance of the fact that they were good enough
You knew that they needed somebody to lean on
But you needed reassurance
But you desperately needed somebody to lean on
But you desperately needed somebody to tell you that you were good enough
You had to make the hard decision
You had to understand that trying to build somebody up eats away at yourself
You lost sight of your self-worth
You lost sight of who you were
You had to let them go because although you saw that they were frenzied with pain
They couldn’t see that you were just as broken
You had to abandon them and pick up the pieces
You had to pick yourself up
You had to tend to your needs and find out what make you, you
You had to become intoxicated in the art of self preservation
You never could have anticipated any of this
You had to mature and become the best you, you could be
That person meant so much to you way back then
And still holds a special place in your heart
But if you choose to let them back into your life, the life that you’ve worked so hard to make; would you fall back into the state of mind that you were in before?
That’s a risk and a reward and you have to learn from the past and fully understand that no matter how hard you try, you can’t change anyone
You can’t mold the perfect person
You can’t fix what’s broken
You can only build upon the broken
You can only encourage to be encouraged
To let that person in or to set them free again is the decision you have to make
Most importantly you must not take steps back
You must move forward with or without them
