So Homestuck^2 is possibly cancelled or at least taking an indefinite hiatus since Hussie said the authors and artists have been getting harassed for the year it's been going on. Any thoughts on the news?

You remember the scene when the main character, a con artist, reads the main antagonist’s public statement about recent events and is absolutely in awe because he realizes just how fucking bullshit said public statement is, and realizes the main antagonist is an even bigger con artist and bastard than he is, because said public statement is just full of every trick and playing every shitty card to shift blame.

Hussie’s statement is like that but not nearly as charismatically competent. Just a constant stream of doing anything to avoid any responsibility and hiding behind minorities (remember when EA tried that in response to Mass Effect’s ending and nobody fucking bought it?), and trying to shift the blame of his failures onto the fans.

No mention of how VIZ Media refused to fund HS2 because it was so shit and they knew it was bad. No mention of him trying to take over fandom spaces at the behest of his ill-behaved team members. No mention of him antagonizing the same people he tearfully claims he was trying to make something for.

Could you imagine if after all the shit that happened with Cyberpunk that CDPR came out and just said that nobody liked it because they’re all entitled manbabies that never like anything they do? That would sure go down well for the franchise. Because Homestuck is exactly that, a franchise. Homestuck 2 was literally a product they were asking people to buy (and don’t weasel out by saying patreon isn’t just that you fucker I know you will).

If you sell a shit product, it and any failures are on you, not the consumers. People are fully willing to throw their support behind good Homestuck stuff. Notice how basically everyone liked the good Pesterquest routes?

King of the day is Gregor MacGregor, a Scot who joined Venezuelans as they fought for independence in 1812, became a General, and even conquered Florida away from the Spainards for a few months. He then spent years convincing rich British people that he was the king of a fictional country in Central America to scam them for money. The British colonists who came to join him wound up stuck in a jungle, where half of them died. MacGregor, on the other hand, got a loan from a British bank for the modern equivalent of $34 million USD (there was a major credit boom in the UK at the time, and much of the money went to recently independent Latin American nations).

When he moved back to Venezuela, he was widely beloved for his actions in fighting for independence and was given a state military burial upon his death. Apparently he’s commemorated at the National Pantheon of Venezuela.
