Pauling's expression falls, the corners of her mouth form a frown. Her hair is frizzy, and her glasses are crooked.

"to be honest... no."

Pauling looks around, observing her papers, and numerous letters from the administrator.

"I work so hard, for her... and I don't even know what I'm working towards... what her plans are."

Pauling sighs.

"but that's not anyone's problem... but my own. especially not the less... mentally equipped mercenaries."

So I'm learning French on Duolingo and...

Oh French, you sure are something.

//out of character, but I'm a music nerd so I have to talk about this- in music there is a word 'ritardando' which in Italian means to slow down. this is actually why the word in English is considered a slur (albeit a commonly used one.) because people wanted a nicer word to call mentally disabled people. It was common to think of these people as 'mentally slow. (to clarify: back then.) since the word literally means slowed down/to slow, the label was given. however, people did what people do and used it derogatorily!
