The vintage Reece S2 industrial buttonholer machine in action. This machine is glorious...fast...but LOUD. It stitches the buttonhole and then cuts it with a blade that strikes downward. Different sized buttonholes are made by changing out the size of the blade. Here I am stitching a buttonhole on a bee Halloween costume that is a mainstay of my Etsy shop. I made about 180 of these costumes this year so that's 360 buttonholes.

This double fleece cape was a special order for a little girl who is sensitive to itchy fabrics and who doesn't want to wear a coat to cover up her pretty dresses. I worked with the buyer to make the cape extra warm with a soft fleece lining, and omitted the interior label to reduce possible irritation. I added a button on the inside so the cape could be reversible. I gave the buyer a bunch of trim choices, but they let me make the final decision. Sort of an old-fashioned, lady-like print for a little girl. i especially wanted to use this lace because the basketweave design matches that of the dress. I had a terrible time finding coordinating buttons - I hope the pink will do! This is available in sizes 12-18 months to 4T. So this is me cutting stacks of fabric with an Eastman Chickadee rotary sheer. I carefully lay out the fabric in neat layers, trace the pattern pieces directly on the fabric, staple the fabric for stability, and then cut it out. I can cut up to 12 layers of fabric, depending on how thick the fabric is. I only do this with a few styles that sell in volume. Most garments I make are cut out individually with a regular rotary cutter.
