The vintage Reece S2 industrial buttonholer machine in action. This machine is glorious...fast...but LOUD. It stitches the buttonhole and then cuts it with a blade that strikes downward. Different sized buttonholes are made by changing out the size of the blade. Here I am stitching a buttonhole on a bee Halloween costume that is a mainstay of my Etsy shop. I made about 180 of these costumes this year so that's 360 buttonholes.
And of course now that you've been wowed by this amazing buttonhole you totally want to buy a bee costume, available sizes Newborn to Girls' 6, so here is the link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/59007257/bumble-bee-kids-halloween-costume-girls
