He spent the majority of his childhood alone in hospitals enduring useless medical procedures and surgeries. Like years at a time. That crap-ass wheelchair (if you look at it close in the Boy's Brigade picture it really is bad) was a nightmare and absolutely contributed to him being a humorless dick as an adult. Endless physical pain and a constant reminder that his family hated him.

He's shitty with women because he spent his teen years watching Team fucking Venture be the worst examples of how to treat women

When he can't sleep he comforts himself by getting up and looking at his stuff- his paintings and cutlery and crap. Like he has to make sure it's still there. Sheila thought this was super annoying. At least 50% of the reason it didn't work out with them was that he was incredibly hard to live with.

Richard Impossible is almost certainly the first/only friend Phantom Limb ever had growing up. He's probably the first person he ever had any real attachment to at all.

The Boy's Brigade was a huge disappointment but he stayed because of Richard. You couldn't waterboard that info out of him tho.

The joke about Phantom Limb buying all those pathetic self help books is funny and I loled but it also says a lot about his character pre-revenge society. Killer super powers. Highly ranked in the guild. He had money, a great car, a fantastic house and a hot girlfriend he treated like living furniture.

All this and he's convinced himself there's some big truth to the universe he's not understanding and once he figures it out, he will be...what exactly? More successful? Fulfilled? Happy?
