I might have missed this in another post... but what is Danny's motivation for becoming a ghost hunter in the gray ghost AU? Is it still his sense of responsibility? Or did Valerie and Cujo (or some other ghost) manage to mess something up for him? Did Maddie nudge him into it, somehow?

that was actually covered in my response to the ask that started this whole thing!

basically, he was stargazing up on a radio tower near the labs when the portal turned on, he saw the power surge and the ghost girl running from the building, finding out the next day that his parents were blamed for faulty equipment

his parents move all their work into the house and it constantly disrupts his daily life, his parents are also completely gutted about being fired and the whole thing is driving a wedge between his mum and his uncle Vlad, who still works at Axion but isn't able to convince them to rehire the Fentons

so his parents are short tempered all the time, the food in the fridge is constantly being contaminated by ectoplasm, his parents make a shit ton of noise at all hours of the day and night, and he barely gets to see his favourite uncle any more

and he knows it's all that ghost girl's fault

Maddie does find out that he's secretly ghost hunting, and subtly leaves weapons and equipment lying around for him to steal, considering that she plans to turn him into a halfa, she wants him to be comfortable flying around and shooting projectiles, it'll make it easier for him to adjust when he's able to do it naturally

the fact that it means he keeps Valerie busy is just a bonus

Ok I’m loving all this Gray Ghost au talk and the debates about how Vlad fits in and Paulina and Star but like… what about Sam and Tucker? Does Danny’s newfound rage and secret ghost hunting push them away? Do they find out? Do they leave him after his parents are fired (like how all of Val’s friends left her in canon)? When Valerie was Red Huntress she didn’t have any friends left really, but so far there’s been no mention on Danny’s social life in this au.

I don't think Danny would tell his friends, if only because he knows they would want to be involved, but he wants his time with them to be as normal as possible, he's pissed off at Valerie and ghosts because they took away any chance he had for a normal life

Valerie because he knows she's somehow responsible for the portal and getting his parents fired, leading them to bring their weird job home with them, and he hates ghosts as a whole because they're all his parents ever talk about

he dons the hunter persona out of spite and vengeance, he doesn't enjoy being a hunter, (at least he won't admit he does) and he still wants to do normal things with his friends

but if they knew what he was doing, they'd want to get all up in his business about it, Tucker would want to play with his tech, Sam would probably want weapons to fight with him, and then even his normal outings with his normal friends would be tainted by all this ghost junk

so he doesn't tell them, and his relationship with them will probably suffer for it, potentially leaving him isolated, but I don't think Sam and Tucker would drop him the way Star and Paulina dropped Valerie, they don't have the same motivations

if they were to break away from Danny, it would have to be because HE did something, like maybe he skips out on them too often, or they can tell he's hiding things from them, or maybe he has a really shitty stressful day and yells at them for prying

Gray Ghost Reign Storm scene

Your AU has taken control of me. Have the Vlad finds out Danny's secret identity.

It would have been comical if the situation wasn’t so dire, but with all the adults squabbling over who would be the one to sacrifice themselves to fight Pariah in the dangerous exo suit, it was easy enough for Danny to slip past security unseen.

Once in the lab his eyes landed on the suit and he growled in anger. This was more of his parents’ technology being stolen and used without any compensation. At least now it would be used by a Fenton again.

However, as soon as he was about to climb inside, the last voice he wanted to hear came from behind him.

“Back away from the suit.”

Danny turned around to glare. Gray Ghost glared back at him.

“Yeah, like that’s going to happen. My parents were the ones to design this suit so if anyone’s using it, it’s me.”

Gray’s eyes narrowed and she flew towards him to shove him back.

“I don’t think so.”

Her face then grew sorrowful.

“Danny, that suit will kill you if you use it.”

Danny shoved her back.

“I don’t care, I’m not going to sit back while ghosts continue to destroy everything I care about, and you can’t stop me.”

Unfortunately for Danny, that was when Vlad stepped into the lab and took in the scene before him.

“What is going on in here?”

Gray smiled with an idea.

“No, but he can.”

In one swift movement she grabbed Danny’s mask, yanking it off to reveal his face.

“Daniel!”

Danny looked from his adopted uncle then back to the ghost. He was going to destroy her for this. However, before he could finish pulling his ecto gun on her Vlad stepped in and grabbed it from him.

“You’ve been the one fighting ghosts? This whole time?”

Danny looked away, not able to meet Vlad’s eyes.

Vlad looked like he was about to say something when he noticed Gray Ghost heading for the suit herself.

“Wait no!”

But she didn’t stop and grabbed the suit, making it intangible with her.

“You can yell at me later, but I have a job to do.”

 With that she phased through the ceiling, taking the suit with her.

Vlad continued to shout at her but quickly realized it was a lost cause once she was gone, and sighed tiredly. He mumbled something about butter biscuits and reckless heroes before turning back around.

Danny had attempted to back out of the lab while Vlad was distracted but was unsuccessful as a hand fell on his shoulder.

“I think we should have a talk.”

For the Gray Ghost AU, what if later iterations Danny’s suit(s) were blue *and* green?

oooh maybe it changes when he gets the upgrade?

OH WHAT IF THE UPGRADE MIRRORS HIS PHANTOM FORM

his og suit can be white with blue and the upgraded suit can be black with green yooooooooooo

If hunter Danny kept white or silver as a color scheme, and his way of flying was anything like the way his dad drives the GAV, he could be known as the Shooting Star. Both because he's seen as a white streak that kust flies really fast across town and around ghosts, and because he has little to no mercy in a fight and will start shooting every weapon he has trying to get a ghost

omg cool name idea but Shooting Star just reminded me of that fucking twilight sparkle/mordecai fanart amv my sister forced me to watch last night, that song is cursed forever now 😂😂😂

I think I'm really leaning toward the Phantom Hunter tho tbh it kinda works on multiple levels

he's a Phantom (ha) because nobody knows who he is, he hunts phantoms ie ghosts, and of course it parallels his alternate universe ghost self's name

it drops the colour motif but I don't think it's all that important because Valerie actually still keeps that motif as the Gray Ghost

Just had a realization if hunter Danny is called Phantom Hunter his initials are pH and halfa Maddie has an acid core. Don’t really have anything to say about that, just I’m a nerd and found it was a funny detail.
