Florenta? That’s a nice name. You new to Beacon Hills Florenta?
Thank you, my parents came up with it themselves. I am, actually. Been here for about a week or so I believe. And how about yourself, Declan/
That’s good to hear and uh, I wasn’t uh… I’m Declan. It’s a pleasure to meet you…..
Right, of course. Hello Declan, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Florenta.
Hopes are firmly dashed then, but I’m still going to hold you to that story. Well then, nice to meet you Florenta, what’re you doing in this shit hole?
And I'm going to remind you constantly it's not all that it's cracked up to be. Don't get your hopes up. I take it you're rather fond of the place. I travel a lot and I figured it was time to settle down and I ended up here.
It may become irrelevant but that doesn’t mean all the time and effort you spent was wasted. That is very gracious of you, thank you. I won’t fear losing my job anymore.
If it gets me the end result I want and need, then I'll take all the time I need to make sure what needs to be done, is done. You're very welcome, Maxwell. I'm sure if it came down to it, your students would love you teaching them more than me.
I dunno. I was just asking, sweets.
You're very thoughtful but I assure you, all is well with me. Besides, it was you who looked like he was in a different world there just a moment ago.
I do agree with that, but some people can be convinced after some effort. However at the same time you don’t want to force your own view down someone’s throat. It’s difficult to find that balance. Maybe you should, so long as you don’t apply for an English teacher. They might replace me with you if you applied.
But at some point, in some cases, you try so hard to convince them that when you finally do, it becomes irrelevant, don't you think? Of course, that will just get you nowhere an them further from the point you're trying to make. It really is. Tell you what? If I ever go for an English teacher, I'll go for the college instead of the high school.
That would explain a lot. I can see how it would, but it also gives you a chance to enlighten others. Having to explain things over and over also makes you qualified to be a teacher. Maybe you should look into that career.
Some people I find would rather not be enlightened because they're convinced their version of the world is perfect already, wouldn't you agree? But I definitely agree with your point. Oh, a teacher, huh? Maybe I'll teach at the high school or college here.
Negativity usually breeds more negativity, but that’s not always the case. Like you said it’s debatable. Hmm I never thought about it that way. When you put it that was I sort of understand why perfection is sought after so often. Motivation to keep moving forward.
That is very true indeed. I think it's why a lot of words exist, despite not being achievable. I'm glad you understand what I mean, it gets tiring to have to explain these thoughts to other people who just can't grasp it.
Yes. Are you?
Why wouldn't I be?
I usually prefer to be optimistic when I can. I’ve been pessimistic too many times in the past and nothing good ever came out of it. Yes, which is why I don’t understand why people still try to achieve it.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I think it's safe to say that no matter what, we all have our moments of optimism and pessimism. No, usually pessimism doesn't leave you with very much except negativity and some people use that to give them motivation and power to do certain things. Whether it turns out for the best or not is...debatable. I would assume it's like that because what would be the point in living if you didn't have something to work for? If you achieved perfection, then what? What's left for you? It does seem foolish, but I can understand it.
It would be all of those things yes, but I don’t know if it would be very interesting. What makes us unique are our flaws in most cases. Besides, it would be hard to measure perfection. Each person has a different view of what is perfect, right? But yes, it would feel very much like a dream. Exactly, in most cases it’s the easiest way to do things or at least the simplest.
That's looking at it from a more optimistic view, I suppose and I can't really argue with that view. Perfection, much like other words, are simply a thing that can't really be achieved though, can it? It's something to strive for, but you can never have it. It doesn't really exist. Yes, subjectivity is a big factor in that as well. There's no universal view of perfection, it's more of a 'to each their own' type deal. Yes, exactly.
I don’t think so. If it was meant to be easy then there wouldn’t be so many people with multitudes of problems. Hmm that’s an interesting way of thinking about things. I can’t say I completely agree, but I can’t disagree either. Thank you, for not pressing further. I can see where you’re coming from. Doing things yourself means you can do it the way you envisioned it in your head, usually. I hope so.
Could you imagine a world with perfection? No problems, no conflicts, happiness and joy and beauty everywhere. It seems almost as though it's...nothing more than a dream, for lack of a better comparison. It won't ever be like that, and it's a shame people thought it up and yearned for it and hope it'll be a reality one day. You don't need to thank me for that, it's fine. That is true, and then I won't have to worry about other people messing things up or doing it wrong because they don't understand what I mean.
….Nope. I’m uh, I’m good. Really good.
Are you?
Mhhmmm.
..Wha- You uh, you say something?
Distracted?
It’s hard to remember that sometimes though. Even though people continue to tell you that it’s not good to hold everything back, it’s not easy to let go.Even if it brings more pain, there’s always an excuse for that or a way one tricks themself into thinking that it’s okay to bottle things up. That would probably be for the best, it’s a pretty personal explanation. Even if you asked, I wouldn’t feel comfortable disclosing that information. I agree with you on that point, but at times it’s good to have someone who might know more than you do about a job help you out. I suppose we do have something in common already then. Ah, well thank you, I think.
Life was never meant to be easy though, was it? I get where they're coming from, but usually I find they say so because they're curious and want to know for the sake of knowing, not because they can actually help. Of course, we do anything to save ourselves from pain and misery and will rely on anything to make it acceptable. Well like I said, I won't ask so not to worry. I don't mind insight and advice, but the decision making and laying it all out is what works for me. I think that means we're off to a good start. You're welcome, I guess.
It’s something I think everyone does to some extent without realizing it. I like to think of it as a defense mechanism. You focus on other things to avoid the pain and keep moving forward. Then again I never took psychology so my ideas may not be correct. What approach do you like to take? It,ah, it was more like a series of events. Thank you. I see. So you feel that when it comes to more important things you want to be your own boss? I hope I didn’t twist your words into something else… I suppose that could be true, but I believe that if I’m in a serious conversation it’s best not to copy what the other person said, especially when it’s a person you’ve just met. That’s not the best way to make a good first impression, or so I’ve been taught.
I think on some level though, they're aware of the fact they're trying to ignore it and push it away. It can definitely be considered as one and that's exactly what people do but what does it get you, really? Dissatisfaction, pain and to put it simply, it just makes you unhappy. You're entitled to your ideas and they seem accurate enough to me. Was it? I'm curious, but my gut tells me it's best not to ask for those details. Of course because with things that are more important, you got to get it right the first time otherwise who knows what, and where, your errors will get you. Well if you agree with it and feel as though you can relate then by all means, you should express that you feel and think the same way. It gives you something in common. Your first impression is just fine, Maxwell. I can assure you of that.
