I photographed a Wolf & a Maltese puppy for my first cover of the National Geographic magazine. We were able to plan the coverage well in advance. Kurt Mutchler, the photo editor and I wanted to get a wolf and a very different looking dog breed in the same picture.We had a year for a breeder to raise both newborns together so that the wolf might not attack the smaller dog. It worked out perfectly, they got along very well and I got my first cover of the magazine. From an #evolutionary point of Veiw these two (as well as all other dog breeds) share a common ancestor. The process that worked on dogs was artificial selection, breeding for traits favored by the people who encourage these animals to come in closer to the fire of the hunter gathers camps some 18000 years ago.This approach has lead to the diverse population that covers the world today. @Robertclarkphoto @thephotosociety @instituteartist by natgeo
