There is a difference between shipping an abusive ship and recognising the characters canonical relationship to be thought provoking, relevant to the plot, and potentially acknowledged by other characters.

I don’t ship Marody but if people choose to write about, or produce fan art of the ship, then you comment ‘wow wtf he literally killed her’ you need to ask yourself ‘is this person portraying these two characters as the epitome of true love?’ or, the more probable, ‘is this person acknowledging a really tragic end to two characters who both deserved better?’

Minerva could have been instructed to dismember Sophie’s limb (in order to prove her loyalty) but the Delta ultimately decided that they could not contain the ever present wrath of a homesick, 17 year old girl and just decided to kill her, even though they desperately needed all the man power they could attain.
