Eyes on me
So, I finally got around to seeing the new Karate Kid, and was really pleased to find out that it was the story all about how Jaden Smithās life got flipped turned upside down. You see, he was chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool, shooting some b-ball outside of his school, when a couple of guys (who were up to no ā¦good) started making trouble in his neighbourhood. He got in one little fight and his mom got scared! And said āYouāre going to learn kung-fu from the maintenance man downstairs.
protect him
White ppl: GO BACK TO AFRICA!!
Me: Aight thatās cool ⦠but you was my ride. So, when we leaving?
This.
and i thought only bob ross knew what was up
this single post is more useful to me then four years of art schoolĀ
We did it in color study class on my college and itās incredible the difference between using red/blue/yellow than cyan/magenta/yellow. The purple was colored like shit, so as the greens. Than we tried the actuall primary colors and it FELT SO GOOD!
I JUST TESTED IT IN MY ART PROGRAM AND HOLY SHITĀ
IT WORKED REALLY WELL
On the left we have dissapoinment; on the right, love.
Then why do they teach us that RBY are primary colours in Pre-KG????
To mess with our headsā¦.
Or because they think that cyan and magenta are too difficult for kids to learn? Lame either way
Reshare to save lives
Okay, no. No no no no no no no no NO.
Listen up you fucks because Iām not wasting thousands of dollars on an art degree to watch yāall fuck up basic color theory.
Red, yellow, and blue are the primary colors
If youāre using p i g m e n t.
Do you hear me? When youāre using traditional media, fucking actual goddamn paint, Bob Ross style, your primary colors are!
When you use paint, your primary colors are red yellow and blue and donāt forget it.
NOW THAT CHANGES COMPLETELY WHEN YOU GO FUCKING DIGITAL.
THE DIGITAL PRIMARY COLORS ARE RED BLUE AND GREEN IF AND ONLY IFĀ YOUR WORK IS GOING TO STAY DIGITAL, ON THE SCREEN, AND NEVER LEAVE THE SCREEN, AND OF COURSE IF YOUR WORK IS GOING TO BE PRINTED. ON A PRINTER. WITH INK. THEN. AND O N L Y Ā T H E N.
ARE YOUR PRIMARY COLORS.
CYAN.Ā
MAGENTA.
AND YELLOW.
So say it with me folks!
Red yellow and blue, are the primary colors forĀ traditional pigment thatās mostly used in paints and shit. You use red yellow and blue when youāre painting traditionally, Bob Ross style.Ā
Red blue and green is light, which is what youāre painting with when you pick up your tablet and go digital.
CMYK is ink, and ink only. You could use cyan, magenta, and yellow as your primary colors in paint if you wanted to be a complete dick, but theyāre not your primary colors unless your work is going to be printed using. i n k. The only time they could be considered the primary colors in a traditional medium is if youāre using ink.
Good day.
Also thatswhiskytoyouās color mixing is bullshit because THIS:
Is my icon. I painted this using RED. GREEN. AND BLUE. AS MY PRIMARY COLORS and they turned out fine. Of course, I used the finger smudge tool first and then the color mixing tool and then the blur tool, but hey what do I know.
Clearly using the blur tool only doesnāt cut it.
āOh but Leo!ā You say.Ā āYou used cyan and magenta in that color wheel!ā
Well bitch guess what.
this is the digital color wheel. Iād say I mimicked that pretty well, donāt you think?
Oh and one other thing, notice how Blue and Yellow are directly opposite each other on this color wheel? Thatās because weāre dealing with light, and with light, yellow and blue are complimentary colors.
Which is why when you mix them, it looks like this:
Which is a pretty neutral gray tone: They cancel each other out on the rgb color wheel when you mix them together.
BUT WITH PIGMENT THE PLACEMENT IS DIFFERENT
If youāll notice, yellow and violet are now opposite each other, meaning theyāre complimentary colors and if you mix Ā them, theyāll make a neutral gray.
But if you mix yellow and blue, same colors as before,Ā YOU GET THIS:
Now keep in mind that the person in the video uses a darker blue, so they get a darker green, but the point is that it doesnāt make that neutral gray.
Now what happens when we mix yellow and violet paint?
Ah yes, you get a bunch of muted colors the more evenly you mix them.
What happens when you mix yellow light and purple light?
I see, I see.
OH AND ONE MORE THING.
They didnāt teach you about red blue green and cmyk in pre-k because when most of us were in pre-k digital art was still in its early stages and what fucking seven year old knows how to use a printer.
GUESS WHOāS NOT FUCKING DONE YET:
The reason the primary colors for light are so dramatically different from the primary colors for paint and ink is because your eye only receives combinations of red light, blue light, and green light. Our eyes do not have a sensor (cone cell) for yellow light. So when we paint with light, red green and blue are our primary colors. Because of our eyes.
Furthermore, paint primary colors are colors that cannot be created by mixing other colors together. For paint, they are red yellow and blue, because you cannot mix orange and green to get yellow. Mixing orange and purple paint does not make red. And mixing green and purple paint does not make blue.
Mixing blue and green paints will make cyan. Mixing red and blue paints will make magenta.
Thatās why cyan and magenta arenāt primary paint colors.
However, you canāt mix yellow and blue ink and get cyan. You canāt mix red and blue ink to get magenta.
And thatās why cyan and magenta are the primary ink colors.
Brighter and stronger paints are created through tints and shades, through a thorough understanding of color theory and a few quality paint recipes. Not by bullshit posts on tumblr designed to mislead you.
Iām colorblind , but this is very interesting

WicDiv Challenge Day 20
Day 20: Favourite WicDiv related post (tumblr, twitter, instagram, etc.)
Clearly, I want to select my own writer notes for ironic egomania points.
I do have something that comes to mind, but itās not something I could link to, and Iām picking on terms of impact on me.
Obviously, Jamie and I pay more attention to the fandom chat than many creators. Almost certainly too much. Even so, itās not like I read everything, or even most. Thereās an enormous amount of it, and generally speaking when I understand the direction and nature of the argument, I stop or skim.
Jamie has a line that notes that most criticism either tells you something you already know or tells you something about the reader. The latter is basically Wildeās All Criticism Is Autobiography which Iām fond of trotting out. This isnāt to diminish it, but is true. The former leans both positive and negative - most positive critique is noticing things weāve expressly built into the work, and even the most brutal critique are rarely a surprise (that said the most aggressive normally involves both formal observations and personal feelings. A critic doesnāt get that angry if thereās not something that resonates with them negatively. Thereās enough Phonogram reviews that seem to be primarily about the fact with someone who was into music laughed at the reviewerās taste back when they were in school.)
But the key thing about Jamieās line is the āmost.ā Thereās always exceptions, and theyāre always striking and stick with you. Colin TooBusyWritingAboutComics noting that all the cast in Rue Britannia are mainly suffering from an inability to experience pleasure in music is something that is undeniably there, but also undeniably not something I was conscious of directly. Itās an obvious side-effect of the guiding principle of Phonogram - that these people are not made better by music, but worse. These people are addicts. This is about music abuse. But still.
Thereās been some stuff like that in WicDiv, often done without the person writing realise they were hitting something profound.
The one which sticks in my mind is a throwaway comment. It may have been no more than a single paragraph post - it could have been more around it, but the paragraph that sticks with me.
They noted that while obviously Laura is seriously depressed from the end of The Faust Act onwards, itās only a matter of scale. Her self-annihilatory behaviour and beliefs all the way through the Faust Act are that of someone who was depressed.
I was entirely unaware I was writing a depressed character. I was just writing me.
I instantly burst into tears.
The Challenge.
Is it weird that I find this really cool?
I connected with Laura so quickly because I thought she was depression, even from issue one. I canāt afford therapy right now (gotta get back on my parents insurance, so I only have to do a $25 co-pay...is that too much information? lol), so I fill my time up getting obsessed over things, like Laura does with the Pantheon.
And I donāt mean, āOh, this famous celebrate lives 15 minutes away. Letās go sit outside their house for an hour.ā (Would Laura do that? I havenāt gotten the super-creepy-stalker fan vibe from her. She just goes to the shows).
I mean, āOh my god I love this series so much, I need to buy every cover that was ever printed, even though I really donāt have the money for that.ā *cough wicdiv cough* or āThis youtuber is really funny. Iāll watch every video theyāve done until their voice is like nails on a chalkboard.ā
I donāt really have the self-annihilatory behavior like her because Iām not in the middle of a goddamn murder mystery (do you see what I did there? Goddamn? Bunch of fuckin gods running arou--okay), just mostly thoughts.
Basically, I connected with Laura right away because my depression seems to be like her unintentional depression.
But, yaā know, Iāve got a whole lot less gods running around.
And itās cool cuz as a wanna-be writer (who hasnāt written anything in years), it kind of another lesson for me on the fact that people can interpret your work differently than you do. I 100% thought that Laura was meant to be a shell of a human being waiting for her life to have meaning and purpose (like me, not necessarily like Kieron...I donāt know you, so Iām not going to put that on you lol), but it turns out that she wasnāt.
Looking back, I can see how she could also come off as not depressed, but maybe as an overly curious, head strong person. But I donāt relate to that, so that wasnāt my first interpretation. I related more to the depressed girl who wanted badass god powers no matter what because fuck it, thatās why.
