♡ SUNSHINE!READER is a nurse at PTMC who somehow manages to still look put together at the end of a 12-hour shift. Her scrubs are always just slightly too bright for the room. She keeps her hair neat until it inevitably starts slipping loose halfway through the day. She laughs easily, speaks gently, and moves through chaos like it doesn’t quite stick to her.
♡ SUNSHINE!READER is the kind of person who remembers everything small and important. Like how coworkers take their coffee. She keeps extra hair ties, snacks, and tiny comforts tucked into her bag like it’s second nature.
♡ SUNSHINE!READER loves pastel colors, warm drinks she forgets to finish, soft music playing in the background, and the feeling of cleans sheets after a long shift. She loves lip gloss, handwritten notes, and silly little trinkets. She loves being useful, but more than that, she loves being kind in a place that doesn’t always reward it.
♡ SUNSHINE!READER hates rude voices, unnecessary cruelty, and the particular kind of dismissal that comes from being underestimated. She hates when people call her “sweetheart” like it means she’s incapable. She hates the way exhaustion sometimes makes her quieter, duller, like the light in her is something that can go out if she’s not careful. She hates that she doesn’t always know how to ask for help without feeling like she’s failed.
♡ SUNSHINE!READER and Frank dance around each other in a persistent contrast. He is all sharp edges, cynicism, and detachment. She’s softness, warmth, and open expression. He thinks she’s exasperating at first; she talks too much, stretches herself too thin, and always seems to have endless amounts of energy. She thinks he’s too grumpy and that he carries too much on his own. Neither of them actually understand what they feel for each other.
♡ SUNSHINE!READER talks to him like he’s approachable anyways. She doesn’t tiptoe, doesn't overcompensate, or try to impress him. She just includes him, even after he returns to work after rehab. It disarms him in a way he doesn’t like examining too closely. Langdon notices things about her despite himself. How her voice automatically changes when a patient is scared. How she lingers after difficult cases, like she’s making sure everyone is okay. He tells himself she’s distracting, she’s too emotionally involved, she’ll burnout eventually. He also notices when she skips breaks, when her smile is too forced, when she goes quiet in a way that doesn’t match the rest of her.
♡ SUNSHINE!READER doesn’t immediately realize how closely he watches her. She assumes he barely tolerates her. She assumes the brief moments of softness and vulnerability are either flukes or just part of who he is, not something specific to her.
♡ SUNSHINE!READER has a habit of filling silence, but not in a nervous way. She hums under her breath, makes small talk, asks about his day. Frank, who usually prefers the quiet, finds he doesn’t mind it when it’s her.
♡ SUNSHINE!READER will take on too much before she admits she’s overwhelmed. She’ll say she’s fine and will offer comfort long before she even considers asking for it. Langdon is one of the only people to see through it. He doesn’t call her out on it directly, though. He just adjusts by taking things off her plate without telling her, hovering nearby just far enough to brush off as incidental.
♡ SUNSHINE!READER isn’t naive. She understands how ugly the world is; how bad things can get. She just chooses to meet reality with something gentler. And for reasons he doesn’t fully understand, Frank starts to not only look for that softness but depend on it too.
