She bit her lip, trying her hardest to act like the tough soldier everyone wanted her to be. But she was failing..
"Let it all out." He wouldn't have anybody bottling their feelings - it wasn't good for you.
“Yeah, but—”
A soft whine as he snuggled into his side, as if he could burrow in there and hide from his thoughts.
"…I’ll just— get used to it or something."
Or die trying.
At that, he just holds Church close, ever so slightly rocking them.
That was. Interesting. Church, though, was feeling like a bit of a lazy fuck, so—
"…What does it involve?"
"Storming the castle in a matter of speaking. Except much more subtle."
"…You don’t have to do that for me, Sir. You have important stuff to do." He shrugged, laying his head down on his shoulder.
He’d accept the comfort for now, at least.
"I'd rather be a friend, first and foremost." He gives Church's shoulder a comforting rub.
"There’s got to be a point where you’re too bad for even a shitty army, though, right? I mean— no offense, Sir, but we don’t do anything."
Flowers frowns under his helmet. "I'd figure it being more peaceful would be better. If you'd like, though, I have a plan I've been working on we could implement to start something."
"Flowers— I mean, technically they’re always acting up, it’s…”
He frowned, but he allowed himself to be held, slowly releasing a sigh.
"…Thanks anyway, though."
That hurts too. "If you ever want to just vent about them, or anything, I'll always lend an ear. I'll drop whatever I'm doing."
Sport.
"…Right. Sounds like a shitty guy. I’m pretty sure he could fire a gun, though. Who even let me in this army?”
He chuckles. "He wasn't the worst with a gun, no." His head tilts curiously at the man's question. "I assume control when they saw your scores."
Of course he knew it wasn’t healthy, chrissake, that didn’t make it easier to stop.
Not like Flowers was saying that, but… god. He was annoyed.
“No, nothing’s worked— nothing I’ve tried. I’ve tried sleeping, they give me nightmares. I’ve tried ignoring it, they get louder. I’ve tried paying attention, and that— I don’t even want to go there. Nothing works…”
Flowers holds Church tighter. "I wish I could help you. I badly too." He squeezes his eyes shut, as if trying to hold in tears that didn't happen. "I'd like to try and help you, if you'll let me. The next time they act out. If anything, for you to not be alone."
"…I wouldn’t call the inability to shoot one weak point when we’re in the fucking army. Sir.”
"Minor details, sport. I knew a locksmith once who couldn't unlock a thing."
"…If I’m the best at aiming in this whole canyon, then I think it’s safe to say we’re gonna be here for the rest of our lives."
"Don't be so hard on yourself, Church. One weak point doesn't ruin a person."
"Wait are you-... no it couldn't be."
"My! It’s been quite a long time since I’ve seen you.”
Cortez had no idea what to think, muttering quietly, “Y-you’ll forgive me if I find that story a bit hard to believe, Florida.” He had no idea how to take this. And on top of that, how could someone be so happy about almost dying twice? Cortez would be downright pissed.
"Well - I can understand that." He chuckles. "We do have pretty different biology, you and I." Humans and... whatever he was, were pretty different out of armor.

Her body shakes a little, she was either scared, about to cry or both.
He rubs her back, quietly hushing and rocking her a bit. "It's okay, I've got you."
"…Gets me through it?"
He says it like the concept has never crossed his mind, like he’s never considered the idea of a coping mechanism— and he has. It’s just that none of them have worked, not for more than a few seconds. Which, granted, was a long time to be an AI. But… his point stands.
"I… I don’t know, nothing, really. I just wait for it to stop."
His frown deepens. "...That's not healthy, Church. Has nothing worked?" Flowers was genuinely concerned for the man he practically deemed his own son. He knew what the project did to fragment the A.I. - he had been there, still when he was broken. That... pains him the most. He wonders if maybe he could have stopped it from happening.
Grif nodded a few times, slowly. “Right.. yeah.. ‘course, it’s natural to come back from the dead— twice..”
“Sometimes I just forget it's not normal for most. Silly ol' me.” He shakes his head with a soft chuckle. Wow. What a weirdo.
"Oh yeah—… Wait, aren’t you supposed to be dead?"
“I guess so - a lot of people think so! To be fair, though, I did die twice.”
He opens his mouth to speak, but pauses. Okay… strange. “Oh yeah? Prove it.”
He chuckles. "Not sure how I would go about that. But: I'm Captain Butch Flowers of Blue Team. My men are - were - Private Leonard Church and Private Lavernius Tucker."
"You look familiar." Flowers taps his finger against the front of his helmet. "I believe we were in Blood Gulch together, friend."
