While Runt was distracted, she wandered over to Squirrels, handing him a cookie.

"Just because we’re at aunty Ferdy’s does not mean the rules go out the window, buster." He tapped Runt’s nose when the child had slunk over to Squirrels. "Our butts go in chairs, not on the counter."

"Yes momma."  He pouted.

Squirrels rolled his eyes and ruffled up Runt’s head fur. “Goober.”

Ferdinand covered a giggle. “Not even Kitten is allowed on the counter you know. But he doesn’t always listen to me.” She shrugged, still hiding her laughter.

"Now then, Runt, do you want milk?"

Squirrels snorted loudly and barked a laugh, putting Runt down. He zipped into the kitchen. “A diet? This chubby deer? Oh no. I like my fluff too much.”

"It is quite adorable." She nodded in agreement.

The kitchen seemed much cleaner than it usually was- Without the kids there, she hadn’t had as much need to cook unless she felt like having a physical meal that day. As such it had been easier to keep in neat.

Of course the classic cookie jar sitting in the center of the counter was still surrounded by a fine trail of cookie crumbles, as always.

It had been a long, long day. Runt had had them both running around while Ferdinand was helping Squirrels shop. They needed new /everything/. They hadn't brought much with them honestly.

So when they finally settled and sat down, it didn't take long for Runt to run up to where they were on the couch with a movie, only to find them both asleep, curled around each other.

He got a blanket, put it on them, patted both of them, and put the movie in and watched it with the volume low. Momma and aunty needed their rest.
