Richard Brautigan, “Boo, Forever”
I wake up the next day and slowly realize that I’ve been walking around with pieces of myself missing, and I sit there drinking tea wondering when exactly did I lose them.

So the universe is not quite as you thought it was. You’d better rearrange your beliefs, then. Because you certainly can’t rearrange the universe.

{ Hey sweetspark, it's Claret. I've got a surprise upgrade I want to show you~ Think we can arrange a meetup? }
:: Claret! Absolutely! Anywhere you like. ::
:: Breakdown and I came to Gilead for a few days to visit, so I’m in California. The base is pretty spacious. ::
Oh good, they have nice roads. Claret figured it had been long enough since his operation to give his favorite alt mode a stretch and test drive. { Perfect, I’ll be over in a click. }
:: I’ll be outside waiting.::
It’s … an excited rush. He never wanted to hurt Claret — but perhaps time enough has gone by that the two of them can let bygones be bygones.
Or maybe Claret is planning on stabbing him, either or. Knockout is more than willing to risk seeing which one it turns out to be. The one-eyed medic hustles outside to wait for his alternate.
There was a slight delay in getting the approval to get off of the ship-- afterall, Claret no longer held an official position in the ranks and the last time he "went for a drive" he brazenly disobeyed orders-- but he cleared. The former volante waited at the edge of the space bridge with a natural trepidation. What if his alternate doesn't like his new frame?
Oh for Pitt's sake, was he still really having these thoughts? Having approval was such a delightful indulgence... he'll get it out of his spark eventually. Not yet.
It isn't his body. He doesn't have to like it.
Claret came over finally, new wings spread out, strutting on in with his own self-confidence buzzing in his field. He was disappointed to lay optics on Cherry, still with his optical patch there, but made no mention of it.
"Wings and wheels! What do you think?"
//I missed Munday last week, didn’t I? Here’s to make up for that, in the brand new t-shirt given to me by my bondmate, therisingdarkness, for Christmas.

{ As good of reason as any, hm~? }

{ Yes please, with extra emphasis on the please. Where do you want to rendezvous? }
The Power of Flight
The Seeker couldn’t help but watch the new appendages lift and fall in gestures that undoubtedly the former grounder had yet no control over. At least no real finesse, not yet. Those wings were too young, and their owner without the undiluted education that an entire life wearing them brought.
They seemed to move mostly in tandem with the red speedster’s emotions, which was par for the course.
"I prefer not to think of him routing around in your frame. Or anyone’s, to be perfectly honest. But you’re content with the results, and it’s not really my business to be judgemental, anyway. Although…" He looked over Knock Out once more. "You’re going to need lessons. Many of them. I presume you understand that going in, however?"
Knock Out was too smart to have expected otherwise.
"Of course. How to fly, land, let alone how to activate jet transformation versus automobile... I'm up to task! I think it'll be fun~"
It would be leagues different than what Breakdown went through despite being the same type of operation... Breakdown became a heavy-duty panzere from just a volante, and Knockout had changed from a volante to a carrozi/aquilae model based triplechanger. But he remembered the awkward transition of handling a bigger frame well-- banging into door frames and fumbling equipment... already, Knockout made a point to himself to keep alert and watch for his turn radius with the wings.
"Besides, I've got all of you around to help give me pointers~ I don't see the big deal in it. How long did it take you to learn your basic flight, Starscream?"
Aaaand pulling the big cybertonian sized sweater down over the medic before strutting off with a grin. Red and white to match the finish, two little glow in the dark 'headlights' on the front. Nice and snug
If Thundercracker's fetish for sweaters is contagious, I want no part of this...
The Power of Flight
Starscream’s optics were alight with a delighted fire, for a whole miriad of reasons.
"A triplechanger," he in-vented, a grin teasing the corners of his mouth. "How interesting. I don’t think I ever would have guessed! This certainly isn’t what I thought you’d been up to all this time out on Vox. But don’t tell me you did it all yourself?"
Dabbling in the re-working and reconstructing of frames reeked of Shockwave’s handiwork. Starscream trusted Knock Out, at least, to have checked himself thoroughly after all the procedures to guarantee the scientist had left nothing unsavory behind.
It wasn't just working with Shockwave, but willingly subjecting himself to be a voluntary test subject..? Truly, nothing was more of a testament to his desire to go through with this. Starscream was wise of that.
"I got to evaluate Firefly as a working example, but I still had to leave a lot of the engineering and operation to Shockwave. Honestly, we probably would have gotten finished much sooner if he wouldn't have been so pouty and stubborn about my amendments!" Knockout rolled his optics aside, wings flickering up once in a put-off gesture.
The Power of Flight
Now that was a voice he hadn’t heard in a god’s age.
Starscream’s servos left off the coding he’d been reviewing on the command bridge’s holoscreen, and turned to get the first optic-full of the Nemesis' former CMO that he'd had in months.
"Knock Out. It’s about time you—"
The Seeker’s words died on his glossa, and for a moment he was struck completely speechless.
Oh. Oh. Well. That explained the absence, now didn’t it?
Where once a pair of back-mounted tires had sat and spun, a glimmering pair of wings now occupied. As bold and cherry-red as the rest of the ex-medic, they fluttered in their joint casings, catching the dim violet lights from above with every motion. There were subtle changes to note too, bits of plating here and there that were smoother, more stream-lined, and the overall mass of the other mech had increased substantially. A jet, after all, was somewhat larger than a car.
A jet. They stood closer in height now because of it, and Starscream only had to take one step to put them at a comfortable conversing level. Six months ago, it would have taken three.
"I think you look… different," Starscream said, holding back the urge to scrutinize. This was hardly what he’d expected to meet the next time he’d planned to see Knock Out face to face. He hadn’t planned to see him at all, until the voyage upon Vox Brawn had begun. To see him so suddenly, and like this, it was… absolutely fascinating.
"And quite polished, as well. Excellent choice in design. But why?" Knock Out had always seemed so smugly fond of his steel-belted radials in the past. What had brought about such a severe change of spark?
He knew the increase in frame build would make him taller and bigger, but Knockout could have just laughed when Starscream approached. No more craning his helm to see everyone's faceplate! Well, not everyone, anyway; Megatron, Firefly, and Blackout will always be titans in comparison.
"I wanted to change, but I didn't want to lose my wheels... so I worked out an entire upgrade!" Nevermind all of the complications behind it he'd been working out with Shockwave. "I have to wait a few more joor before live tests can be run on the T-Cog I synthesized... buuut I thought you should know, when we get Cybertron fixed up, I'll be able to fly over and see Vos the way it was meant to be seen~."
It certainly would be a whole new perspective.
