The Ties That Bind || Kynn
Backdate: February 2014.
Kinsey knew that Indiana had wanted this for a long time, and, in truth, Kinsey wanted it, too. She just never imagined it could be this way. She always thought it had to be her responsibility aloneāone that could jeopardize the pack, which is why sheād held off on doing it for so long. Too long, really, Kinsey considered, thinking of the age her mother had been, and how at least her father had been around to raise her right proper. Sometimes Kinsey wondered if sheād able to do the same for her own childāshe swore she would, but even she was fallible. But Indiana, clever girl, had her own ideas⦠ideas that made it all possible. Except this part.
Kinsey didnāt get nervous. She really didnāt expect him to say no⦠but she didnāt know what to expect as she stepped up to the mansion that formerly belonged to a rockstar and now had been donated into her care. She was proud of her brother and Zach for stepping up and taking care of the grounds and the pack it housed. Kinsey knocked, out of courtesy more than anything else, knowing Flynn didnāt expect her but also knowing he was home because he wasnāt working the farm back home. She tucked one of her hands into the front pocket of her jeans and waited, sucking her lip in and rolling it against her teeth as she waited. In the other hand she had an aged Wild Turkey 8 Year. They were probably going to need it.
Flynn was alone in the living room when the sound of knocking echoed through the quiet house. He was settled in the corner on the windowseat, back up against the wall with his guitar balanced not at all precariously on his leg. It was surprisingly sunny for February, and the sun cast long rays through the window and across the floor, giving the room a flatness that Flynn knew wasn't real. He spent a moment frowning perplexedly at the door before setting the guitar aside and standing up. A hand hovered for a brief second over his guitar, making sure it wasn't going to make a delayed bid for the floor before finally pulling away, crossing the expanse of the living room before he reached the heavy wooden door.Ā
Pulling it open, he was only vaguely surprised to see Kinsey standing there, and he raised an eyebrow as his gaze dropped to the bottle in her hand. "Hey, Kins," he said, pausing a moment before taking a half-step back and gesturing for her to come in--which was a little awkward, to be honest, seeing as she basically owned the place, but courtesy was courtesy. "What's the occasion, then? Or did you just miss me?" He grinned, leading the way into the kitchen. "Wanna break into the hard stuff right away, or work up to it?"Ā
