I Should Tell You || Kindiana
She and Kinsey had traveled to Greenville in early March, forking over the money to the fertility clinic for artificial insemination. It was Kinseyâs egg and Flynnâs sperm put together for Indiana to carry, a Mason that would still be just as much Indianaâs child. It was unconventional, that was true, but Indiana was determined to have a family with her wife no matter how that had to happen and she knew Kinsey was eager to have an heir to the pack with how much danger had been around them as of late. Perhaps it wasnât the wisest situation to bring a baby into, but life wasnât ever safe, especially for lycans, and better now than never, right?
Sitting on the bed she shared with her wife, Indiana bounced her leg nervously as she waited for Kinsey to come inside and see her. She knew Kinsey would want a shower before dinner after a long day of work outside and had perched herself there precisely for that reason. She had three tests sitting out in the bathroom next to the sink, just waiting for Kinsey to notice them and react.
Spring was in full swing. That meant more to do, now that winter was on its way out. A lot of the planting had already been done, but there was always the tending to do, not to mention the birthing of the animals. Many came to foal this time of year... and they weren't the only ones. Kinsey and her wife had been trying to get pregnant since February and Kinsey had dipped into the Mason family savings to get it to work, but that's why the family saved: for the family, for the farm. And she was the last of them unless she and Indiana succeeded in doing anything about itâunless Gabrielle was popping one out anytime soon, Kinsey mused wryly. The thought of Gabby and Duke as parents amused her, but also worried her. Kinsey knew this was a hard time to bring new life in, but any time was a hard time.
For Kinsey and Indiana, it was particularly hard. Kinsey had the misfortune of too much testosterone in her hormone makeup and lot of the trouble that went with itâbut still a very obvious lack of penis. Which, in general, was just fine by her, except for when it came to matters like this. Kinsey felt almost... inadequate, being unable to get her own wife pregnant. And felt even more guilty when the first time didn't take. The doctors assured them that sort of thing was only normal, but it still hurt Kinsey's pride. But they'd went back a second time, in March on the 18th, a month later. The doctors also didn't know they were lycans... or if they did, they'd kept their mouths shut. It was better that way: with all the 'wolf DNA up in there, there was no way the child wasn't going to be a lycan. Okay, there was a chance, but it was slim. Which meant gestation was going to be quick, which meant no gynecologist was going to be able to help. This sort of thing was left up to the strange gods of nature that had made lycans possible.
Kinsey had noticed that Indiana was making herself scarce around the house, but she let the brunette have her space... they both took the first loss in different ways. Kinsey channeled into her work, into her boxing, into their lovemaking, but Indiana seemed to tend her wounds alone, and Kinsey wasn't one to intrude there. So when Kinsey came up the stairs, dirt under her fingernails and sweat down her sides, practically peeling off her boot-cut jeans as she made her way into the room, she was surprised to see Indiana staked out on the bed, kicking her feet like a child. Kinsey dropped her pants immediately and stepped out of them. "Yeah?" she said, going to Indiana without hesitation, grabbing the other woman's hips and bringing her in up and close. She didn't need to see the tests, didn't know they were there, not with Indi's face lit up like that. "You reckon it's true?" Kinsey asked, searching her wife's face intently, trying to hold back her excitement.Â
Flashback to arrival || Kinsse
The calm, unshakeable aura that radiated off of her was testing the male wolfâs patience. Jesse rotated his shoulders slowly and sighed through his nose, the lines of his jaw stacking and flexing as he clenched his teeth, the long, tortuous veins in the back of his arms growing more prominent as he flexed the muscles hidden under his skin. They were the telltale signs of his own irritation, but Jesse he couldnât afford to care about that right now. His patience was running dry, snapping and crackling like electricity, his inner beast starting to get just as tired of the bullshit as he was. Heâd had enough of skipping around the lines. Blondie was being a good girl and had rose up to the challenge, being infuriatingly calm and collected about it, not thrown back by his arrogance. It was something he hadnât anticipated or expected to happen, and to be honest, it gnawed at him.
But he was still shielded by his own bravado. Heâd started this game, heâd issued the challenge, and he would be the one to end it. Jesse watched Kinsey as she shed her clothes, revealing a toned, fit, strong-looking figure beneath the layers of fabric she wore. She wasnât the kind of âwolf who could be underestimated or taken lightly, that much he was certain of. Not that it mattered squat to him â he was still going to take this land from her and strip her off all her rights. And he wanted her to think that the only reason he was challening her in the first place was because he just didnât have anything better to do. Because he could. His smirk broadened over his lips at her response. âNo, Iâm usually the poster boy of honesty.â He winked at her, still smiling like an asshole. She kept yammering on about how cute and special the place was for her, and he resisted the urge to roll his eyes. But the fact that she said the land had once belonged to her father and grandfather sparked a sense of interest for him â if her territory was a hand-me-down it meant she would defend it well. Very well. Which in turn meant that he was in for a really good, bone-splintering, break-the-trees-down kind of a fight. âYeah, sounds charming. I think I need to stick around and check out the summer scenery, then, if itâs as good as you say it is.â Jesse cocked his head to the side and kept his eyes fixed on the alpha as he began to stalk to the left, trying to determine the best angle to start the attack, the metal buckle of his belt chinging as he moved. âYou donât get many visitors around here - do you?â he asked her, quirking a brow at her. Visitors meaning âchallengers.â But he trusted her to understand the analogy. She was pretty smart for a blonde, after all.
Due to length, a Read More.
Kinsey: Kinsey was collected because that was her outlook. Calm and prepared beat heated and passionate in a fight 99% of the time. And for that other 1%, she could let her anger show. But she wasn't anywhere near angry, not yet. This was still some upstart kid who didn't know any better, in her eyes. It actually took a lot of moxie to challenge an Alpha you didn't knowâtold her he had an ego on him and little to lose. Briefly, she wondered what he was running from. But only briefly. "Well, gonna have to keep y'honest then, I reckon," she murmured, unable to resist a little southern sass as he rounded her, trying to find a weak spot, she figured. She wasn't about to let on she could fight ambidextrous, so she let her left shoulder slouch, just a little, as if to insinuate it was as good a spot as any. Oh, I got hurt here once, I'm trying to hide it, her muscles said. Her own stance began defensive, loose, watchful, ready. She didn't mind him making the first move. "Well, y'can meet the other visitors one way or another after this." Whether it was to bury his damn body or shove his living face into the remains of those who were once his breed of stupid.
Jesse: His eyes began to glow a deep yellow, and his senses grew even more acute as he scanned her body for that one, vulnerable spot. He was looking for a weakness, a soft spot he could use to his advantage. She was bound to have one. He raked his eyes over blondie's left shoulder slowly, studying the structure of her muscles â she was keeping her left shoulder slouched slightly lower than the other, indicating a potential weak area, possibly a former injury, so that was what he concentrated on. A low laugh rose from his chest at her words, a cocky smile forming over his lips. Rolling his shoulders backwards, he opened his mouth and let his canine teeth extend into fangs, a growl emerging from the back of his throat. The tendons of his arms grew taut as he lunged at her from what he thought was her vulnerable side, making an attempt to hit her with full force and bulldoze her sideways onto the cold, hard forest floor. Better chances to win if he got this bitch to the ground.
Kinsey: She wasn't surprised when he took the bait to attack her left side; it also told her that he could be baited, that he was the kind who operated at face-value and heat of the moment. All good things to know about an opponent. He lunged at her, shoulder first, aiming to take her down; Kinsey waited until he was too dedicated to the movement's inertia to stop himself before she turned her body fast enough to catch his arm as it went by and held on tightly. If he didn't fall on his face, the inertia and the force of her pull would snap his shoulder out of its socket; if he did go down, she would sit on his back and twist his arm behind him until it broke.
Jesse: It was too late for him to dodge by the time he realized his attack wasn't going to hit its mark. Blondie whipped around and grabbed a tight hold of his arm, clutching onto him firmly and effectively preventing him from taking her down. Jesse fell towards the ground, landing on one knee beside her, his arm twisted backwards by the torque of her pull. A loud crunching sound split the air and he felt the bone of his arm splinter and break, a deep snarl slipping past his teeth. With his adrenaline rising, Jesse balled the fist of his free hand and aimed a punch towards her abdomen, trying to force her to let go.
Kinsey: It was hard to land a punch with your untrained left hand when aiming for something you couldn't see; the effort was noticeable and since she was in close range, she could do little else but move to take the least damage from the hit and brace herself for the impact. His fist landed under her ribs, beside her stomach, and for a moment she just focused on catching her breath, but she didn't let go. She was satisfied with the crunching sound of bones, so she tightened and twisted worse. As she did so, she elongated her canines and drove her teeth hard into his right shoulder, the same arm she'd been injuring. Kinsey was aware that moving her weight in this manner would likely result in him rolling to get her off of him, so she loosened up to take that roll if she had to.
Jesse: His knuckles successfully connected with the flesh below her ribcage, but it wasn't enough to break her hold. Jesse grunted when Kinsey strengthened her grip on his arm and made an attempt to yank himself free, but apparently blondie was completely hellbent on not slackening her hold. She twisted at his arm harder, the crackling of broken, shattered bones echoing around them again. His face wrinkled into a mask of pain and stubborn fury when her teeth sunk deep into his shoulder, another powerful, low-pitched growl escaping his mouth. He shifted his body abruptly and rolled himself to the ground, his nails elongating into claws as he swung his free arm to take a swipe at the alpha's back and claw deep into her skin.
