Hello! I was wondering if you knew of any way to watch the '03 FMA? I know it's not on Crunchyroll rn (dunno if it ever will be, even with the Funimation merge). But maybe a non-virus ridden site? Or a box that has had the series dropped into? Or drive that has been shared? I can't find anything anywhere currently. So I'm not expecting anything here, but I'm still hoping! Either way, thank you!<3
It's on US Netflix as far as I know. Otherwise it's on Aniwave, but I guess I'm supposed to tell you to support the official release and all that
I always read that Grumman is Riza's grandfather, and the source is on some guidebook, I can't find any screengrab of the part where it states that, I am not able to grab a copy to check for myself. I greatly appreciate it if you could verify it 😁
Here you go, from Perfect Guidebook 2. He’s her maternal grandfather.
Hi! Do you know if there is any kind of organized attempt to preserve FMA Mobile's content besides the story? I mean like the in-game assets with our best Amestris map ever, the amazing 3D models, the voice lines, the beautiful new artwork renders, etc. It saddens me to think that so much of this game may be permanently lost if no one sets out to preserve these assets :(
Not that I know of, unfortunately :( I would try to do it myself, but a. I have nary a clue how to do that and b. I also am extremely low on storage space on my computer and don't have enough external storage to do it either. I can only hope someone out there will pick up the mantle, but so far I don't know.
In chapter 86, how did Ed turn out the lights in the village? Did he send a deconstruction wave through the electrical wires or something? I don't think it's ever explained is it?
Honestly, I'm not sure either. Maybe he, uh... I dunno... Overloaded the circuit breakers or something? Yeah I got nothing tbh
How many months they waited to promised day?
From when?
Alright so apparently I'm way late to the party (having missed the news due to timezones), but it seems FMA Mobile will be shutting down on March 29th, 2024, after less than two years. At least it lived longer than the second Greed?
Here's the official announcement from Square Enix: https://support.jp.square-enix.com/news.php?id=18982&la=0&n=2&drt=1703664000&tag=dacb52a8c6e15caf6cf95369ffafe1e4d0f0d086
For those who may be concerned about this game becoming lost media, fortunately, all the story scenes (as far as I can tell) have been uploaded to YouTube by an account called Alex Risi Chan Gamer (no relation to me, there's just a gazillion Alexes in this world).
Obviously YouTube itself isn't exactly a beacon of permanence, so I will be looking into downloading these videos onto a physical drive for safekeeping.

So are Philosopher's Stones like... kinda redundant after Scar lifts Father's restriction on Amestrian Alchemy? The whole benefit of using a PS is that you have an independent energy source that doesn't abide by "equivalent exchange". It's a lot of energy, but it's finite and we've seen them run out before. post-series, since now the entirety of the earth's tectonic energy is available, a single Alchemist practically has an unlimited energy supply. Am I missing something, or is that correct?
I would think not. I can't say I know all the details tbh, but think of it this way: Amestrian alchemists only have problems with their alchemy because of the blocks Father installed, right? But it was Father himself who made a Philosopher's Stone in Xerxes, before fucking up Amestrian alchemy. He obviously needed a reason to do that, something that couldn't be done with the raw power of the energy already available to alchemists. Also, if unblocked alchemy were equivalent to using the Philosopher's Stone, there'd surely be stories of alkahestrists doing some crazy shit, when in reality we know that the Philosopher's Stone is considered legendary and powerful in Xing as well.
Hello! The Ultimate Eye question got me thinking, what's up with some hearsay surrounding Hohenheim's Alchemy in the '03 series? There are various reddit threads that claim Hohenheim of Light transmutes... well, light. Even the FMA wiki says this for his profile, but of course, 0 citations are ever given. It seems people assume his constructs VS Dante are light-based despite looking and sounding like ice, to me anyway. Is this clarified anywhere, ever? Or is this just hearsay gone wild?
Uhhhh I haven't watched 03 in a hot minute, so I can't say for sure. I don't remember ever hearing anything like that, but to be fair 03's plot is so wild I can never seem to keep track of everything no matter how many times I rewatch it, so there's an equal possibility that this is real and I just forgot about it. I'll run through some Hohenheim episodes when I get the chance and see if anything like that comes up. I should look into getting some of the 03 guidebooks one of these days...
Hello! I wanted to ask if it was possible to quote or take a picture of the guidebook section where it says Envy is genderless? I was talking to a friend about it, and I was convinced it was canon, but they thought it was only a fandom interpretation based on Envy's appearance. I was also wondering if it comes up in several guidebooks, and if it's present in the original JP. Since I work in a translation adjacent domain, I know that translations can sometimes be... questionable...
Sure, I can't go looking for it right now but I can find it in a few days! (I'm just busy these next few days is all lol)
Alright, sorry for the wait. Here’s a photo of where it’s mentioned in the English profiles book.
If you’re wondering why it says “no one knows Envy’s true form,” it’s because this particular guidebook was written when the manga was still on the Dublith arc.
Unfortunately I don’t own a Japanese copy of this one, so I can’t double check what it says there. I did flip through Perfect Guidebook 2 and FMA Chronicle (both JP exclusive books), and I didn’t see any mention of gender whatsoever in regards to Envy.
Personally, I think it’s reasonable to assume Envy is nonbinary, however I could have sworn this was explicitly stated in Japanese somewhere? I’ll do some digging and let you know what I find.

I have a question regarding the Ultimate Eye. This is a weird one; of all the Homunculi's special abilities, this is by far the most vague. I can't recall it ever being explained in either the manga, BroHo, or even 03, beyond just, again, very vague statements like "I can see you doing that its no use mwahaha". What does the eye even actually do? Is it clarified anywhere at all? A lot of people assume its like a slow-motion/Sharingan thing, but this is all hearsay with no citations ever given.
Honestly, I'm not sure either. I do also get the feeling it works sort of like sharingan, probably? Tomorrow I'll check the guidebooks and see if it's explained in detail at all, but off the top of my head I don't remember it ever being fully explained in the actual story.
Alright, as promised I dug out my guidebooks. Perfect Guidebook 2 has a section on the homunculi's abilities, so here's what it says about the Ultimate Eye. I've included the original Japanese for anyone who wants to double check my translation.
全てを見極める眼力 超人的な動体視力で、動く相手の攻撃も防御も、全てを見抜く力。戦闘時は常に主導権を握る強みを持つ「最強の眼」だ。 Powers of observation to ascertain all The ability to perceive every aspect of a moving opponent's attack and defense with superhuman dynamic visual acuity*. The Ultimate Eye excels at always maintaining the initiative in battle. (*T/N: The ability to perceive fine details in moving objects.)
So basically yeah, it's kinda like sharingan.

me experiencing grad school imposter syndrome: what if linguistics isn't the right field for me, what if I'm not meant to be studying it full time
me within three days of finishing my semester:
if anyone is curious, the percentage of xingese speech bubbles for each of them is 18.3% for Ling, 9.4% for Mei, 40.5% for Lan Fan, and 30.1% for Fu
other fun facts I learned while gathering this data
Ling talks so fucking much
Lan Fan and Fu had almost the exact same number of speech bubbles, despite Lan Fan having a lot more screentime. I think this is because Fu gets to talk a lot at Xerxes and in the fight against Bradley, and also Lan Fan just. doesn't talk that much. I knew she was quiet, but this was a surprise to me. it strikes me that it might be a respect thing? particularly when speaking to the Amestrian characters, she usually lets Ling or Fu do the talking, presumably because they're her superiors
Mei's instances of Xingese are mostly thought bubbles or talking to Xiao-Mei. the exceptions are her confrontation with Lan Fan and her short exchange with Ling at the end
Ling speaks Xingese to Lan Fan in front of the Amestrian characters a lot more than I expected
even though it's such a subtle detail, Arakawa definitely made conscious decisions about when characters would speak which language. for instance, when Envy tells Ling and Ed that there's no way out of Gluttony's stomach, Ling starts yelling at him in Xingese, presumably because he's so upset
another bit that struck me is that when Ling rescues Fu from Bradley and talks about how he'll never be a king like him, they're talking to each other in Xingese. Fu then switches to Amestrian specifically to tell Greed to summon the Shield, then switches back to Xingese
when yelling "YOU FOOL" immediately after this, the speech bubble is a strange shape, making it impossible to tell which language is being spoken, further blurring the lines between Greed and Ling in that scene :)
speaking of Greed, when we first see Ling accepting Greed in the mindscape, his speech bubbles are in Xingese, but when that scene is expanded on in the next volume, it's all in Amestrian, so that might just be an inconsistency. he only speaks Amestrian with Greed by default
Hi! I was wondering if you've heard of the Fullmetal Alchemist 20th Anniversary Book (https://www.viz.com/read/book/fullmetal-alchemist-20th-anniversary-book/product/7618?wpsrc=ANN&utm_campaign=P_FMA20_ANN_CTFA20AB_vizwebsite&utm_source=ANN&utm_medium=Display).
I'm wondering if I should buy it considering I already have FMA Chronicles, the Four-Panels comics and the complete artbook.
I have heard of it! Haven't bought it myself, though, so I can't vouch for what's in there unfortunately.
I'm so sorry I. meant to reblog soulja boy happy birthday Naruto to my personal blog whoops
