Info: FMA Weekly Read Q&A
As we wait for the beginning of the weekly read to roll around, there are some questions I'm expecting to come up, so I've answered those in advance here. If you're seeing a reblog of this post, please check out the live Q&A page on the main blog to view any new answers too!
Q: Is this for newcomers to the series too?
A: YES!! While my initial post refers to the event as a "reread", I realized I should clarify that it's for everyone, not just people who have read it before. For this reason, if you are tagging a post with the #fmaweekly tag and it contains spoilers for any later in the story than the current week's chapter, please also use the #fma spoilers tag! We would love to welcome new readers of this fantastic story!
Q: I don't have the manga. Where can I read it?
A: If you have access to a public library, check their shelves, ask your librarian, or look in the online catalog to see if you can get volumes from another branch if yours doesn't have any holdings. If your library provides Hoopla or another digital service that hosts comics, make sure to check there too! Also, Mangadex has scanlations of the chapters in several languages that can be read online for free.
Q: When will we start?
A: The event will begin on June 17, 2026.
Q: How long will it take to finish the manga at this pace?
A: At one chapter a week and 108 main story chapters, it will take two years and four weeks! Wow!
Q: Will the fmaweekly blog reblog community posts?
A: The short answer: no. The long answer: I'm dealing with chronic illness and am trying not to stress myself out too badly. Trying to keep on top of reblogging many many posts to an event blog would unfortunately do exactly that! Users are encouraged to check out the #fmaweekly tag to keep up with everyone's contributions once the event begins. I will certainly be reblogging posts I personally love to my main blog @mollymerula :)
Q: What kind of posts can go in the #fmaweekly tag?
A: Discussions, commentary, meta, art, gifs, edits, shitposts, jokes, memes, cakes, "this thing I noticed" posts, anything you have made yourself! Please do not post any generative AI content in the tag. This includes both text and images. Please do not put posts in the tag with the intention of manufacturing or furthering interpersonal drama. Also, please be considerate of your fellow readers and tag your posts with ship names and content warnings wherever those apply.
Q: What if I miss a week? What if I'm coming into this late? Conversely: What if I want to read the manga at a faster pace?
A: No problem! The weekly structure is just a guideline. If you want to read it all at once, or you need to catch up, it's fine to do that too! Most discussion per week will probably be focused around that week's chapter, but feel free to liveblog your catchup reading too. (Just remember to tag #fma spoilers if your post mentions material from later in the story than the current week's chapter.)
If you have a question not answered here, please send it as an ask! Anon is on :)
