it isn’t his scene but he’s making the most of it. trying to clear his head and make the fog of twilight head away. she’s easy to be around. same age helps and the checking in she’s doing definitely helps. he’s a bear who can get lost in his own thoughts so her pulling him back to earth was probably what kept them as friends in the first place. “i’m feeling a little envy for you.” he downs his drink and tells himself it’s the last one. “you seem to have endless energy, but i’m melting down over here.” when the bartender hands her the water, he gives her a cheers with his glass. “it’s a process alright.” chuckling, he swirls the last sip in his deep glass. “just some cheap beer, but i should stop soon.” he’s a man who knows his limit.

“thanks for dragging me out of my apartment. without you i’d still be in my pajama’s being a hermit.”

a small giggle left her mouth, a small one that turned into a loud one and jiyoo had to get herself under control before she got even more looks. “i’ve always had this restless energy since i was kid...” no one could really keep her from moving. “but my teachers, coaches and the like wouldn’t agree with that.” in fact, she was sure they wanted a little less from her. just a little. jiyoo muttered a thank you to the bartender and tipped, drinking about half the glass. “ready to leave soon?” she titled her head and looked at him, “beer, blech, it taste horrible.” she liked her stuff fruity and see tasting. 

“thanks for letting me drag you out, not everyone wants to party with a bull of energy. but being a hermit in pj’s doesn’t sound like an awfully bad idea.”

“ awh, i promise it’s not as bad as it looks, ” yoojin says as she pulls one of the puppies up closer to her face, nuzzling it with her cheek. “ they’re very very nice, just excited. i don’t think they get out too much – and they see new people even less. ” she says, looking over at the puppy in her hands before it ends up wiggling away and running to jiyoo’s feet. “ see, i think they like you ! you should definitely join me down here. we’ll tire them out quicker this way, ” she points out before she has the puppy that was on her shoulder yawning in her ear and hopping off. they scurry away to play with another pup, but yoojin maintains her spot on the floor.

yoojin nods in agreement as she watches another pup skitter away across the floor, before pouncing on another. “ i feel that, ” she sighs, shaking her head. “ my roommate and i, we have a cat. or, well … she has a cat, ” yoojin clarifies, shrugs. “ cats are a whole lot easier most of the time. less maintenance, cats tend to take care of themselves and ask for affection when they want it … but they don’t often want it, ” she chuckles. “ puppies ? they’re very hyperactive … 

“ ah, i wish the idol lifestyle allowed for it, you know ? that way, i could have one around to play with and have around, they can be more fun than cats at times … but i don’t think i have the energy to keep up with a pup or anything. ” yoojin points out. although, with the way she was, there were absolutely no chances she could keep up with a dog. after all, she barely kept up with azir, but that was just because he was yuju’s pet and she didn’t really have to take care of him that way. “ i feel bad, the ones here don’t even get that … just some outside time running around like this – i feel a responsibility to make sure this is the best outside time they have … but then i get sad to think they’re gonna be sad when their next outside time isn’t this fun … ” she sighs, shaking her head.

“ i wish i could just adopt them all and give them happy lives … it’s so sad seeing them here, ” yoojin states solemnly. “ i hope they all find good homes … maybe we should make like, fun profiles for them so they seem more fun to take home. i mean, they’re all so cute ? how could people resist ? we’ll make them all have … i don’t know, saved someone from a fire or something. hero dogs – people would like to adopt heroic dogs, right ? ”

“you make it sound so appealing.” yoojin was really selling it, it also helped that she had some cute pups at her side. all of them looking at jiyoo with what felt like the hugest puppy dog eyes. (ha.) in the end, she couldn’t help but ease herself onto the floor and quickly, she found herself with a lap full of pups. “i am often told that cats are a bit easier to take care of.” and she had heard about the affection thing, it wouldn’t work, she loved to cuddle pets. 

“that is a bit sad.” it was why they were here to help out, after all. just to bring the pups a little more joy. “well... with us helping out, maybe people will be inclined to help them find their forever homes.” she didn’t know much idols helping out like this would help but it had to count for something right? “but don’t feel so down, you’re doing the most you can right now and that’s what matters.” she was giving her time after all. 

“and you can always come and visit.” she wouldn’t own a pet but she would visit given the chance. a loud laugh left jiyoo’s mouth as she nodded her. “saved someone from a fire...saved a kid from drowning, helped find another lost dog. it’d really help boost the profiles.”

“check in.” jiyoo basically collapsed next to her fellow idol on the bar. she had gotten her drinks and moved to the dance floor pretty quickly. she saw them on the floor and then when she looked again, time had passed and they were sitting at the bar. “how are you feeling?” it was good that they kept in contact with each other throughout the night. 

this was her clubbing partner for the night. “i’m tired....” that she was, her legs hurt but that meant she was having fun. “but i enjoyed the process.” finally, jiyoo took a proper seat and flagged down the bartender, simply getting a water for now. “what are you drinking?”

location: the animal shelter when: july 19, 2021 with: open

to say yoojin’s been overwhelmed would be an understatement. a very, very large understatement. between filming for her solo and preparing for next month’s comeback, yoojin’s felt like she hasn’t stopped since their mini-vacation in california. even spending a few days messing around with her members in new york felt like work – but this ? this didn’t feel like work. sure, it was a volunteering opportunity, it was something to try and give companies and idols good photo opportunities, but that didn’t mean that it felt like work. she had the chance to opt out ( not that she would, ) so it felt less like she had to do it.

when she stepped into the animal shelter, yoojin knew it was going to be all over for her, she was such a pet person, despite the fact she’d never had a pet of her own. however, she spent a majority of her time loving on her roommate’s pet, and wishing she had one of her own. now that she was here ? yoojin wasn’t exactly sure how she was going to step out of here without taking one home. especially with all that’s been going on, yoojin feels overwhelmed with love while she starts helping out at the shelter.

which was how she ended up in the position she’s in now.

instructed to help with play time with the small dogs ( they didn’t want to overwhelm her with the big dogs, ) yoojin ends up with puppies on her lap, running around her, and one even finding a spot asleep on her shoulder. she’s not sure how she ended up in the pile of pups, but she’s not exactly complaining. she hears footsteps nearing and her head whips up, attention moving from the dog she was scratching behind the ears to the person in front of her. “ did you come to help with play time ? ” yoojin asks, brows raised. “ fair warning, i want to take every single one of them home, and i’m not sure how my roommate and her cat would deal with a puppy but … just look at them, they’re all so cute … ” yoojin coos. “ also, you will be jumped on, there’s absolutely no escape. they’re little, but feisty. they’re very helpful with stress, but they also bite a little … you’ve been warned. ”

jiyoo loved pets and more than that, she loved other people’s pets. if she thought about it honestly, she wouldn’t fully be able to take care of a pet. and if she did get one, it wasn’t going to be a dog, they would be way too much energy. way too much time and she wasn’t ready for it. 

but, playing with the dogs for a bit? that she could do. 

as soon as she was let into the room, jiyoo let out a happy squeal. she saw the other idol but her focus had been on the dogs for a second, already crowding around her. “yes, i am here to play with the lovely dogs.” there was already one head butting her. “i shouldn’t down on the floor though, it looks like they’ll take me over.” which, wouldn’t be so bad in hindsight. 

“i wish i could take them home but i’m too lazy to care for a bunch of dogs. sometimes, i just get super...just lazy and they need daily walks.”

“jynx!” alice beamed. she was a big fan of the aria member, though they weren’t too close yet. her personality and wit were just so endearing and the emanated good vibes.

“thank you! i’m 23 - well, 22 internationally.” she said happily. she’d heard a few different ages quoted for a woman’s best year, but all of them - 24 to 28 - were inching closer, and she was ready to be the most beautiful, wise and calm she’d ever be, even if what she was doing just then probably didn’t qualify her for any of those things. “ah, please, don’t worry! i’ve already bought the cakes!” she showed one off for jynx to see. happy birthday alice was written on top in a pretty script and it was pink, decorated with white borders. “i’ve got more too!” she grinned. what an understatement.

“ah, well today is a good day. how does it feel being 23 for a few hours?” jiyoo asked it playfully. for some people, you didn’t feel anything at all. it was just a new day and yet, you’re closer to getting older. some people enjoyed the magic of it all and she did feel a little older each year. “what do you plan to make of your 23rd year? i hope more sweets are involved.” now that was good day for her. a small pout formed on her face, only perking up at the cakes. “well, then you have to let me take you to a coffee place and buy you a drink or we can hang out and taste test at mines.”

time: late afternoon, July 11th summary: alice wants to share birthday treats. for: you?

alice was exceptionally excited. it was her birthday, after all! she’d spent the majority of the day at a fansign, which she’d enjoyed immensely, but it was nothing compared to the sheer joy of hitting several bakeries in search of the perfect birthday treat. there were many strong contenders outside the cake family, but if she went by tradition, it had to be some sort of cake, right? she thought so, at least.

so one, two, eight, twelve stops later, her tiny frame could be seen lugging as many bags as stops she’d made, a dozen cakes there for the tasting. spotting a familiar face in the street, alice approached with a smile. “hi! do you wanna taste test cakes with me? i’m trying to find the best birthday treat in seoul!” the explained enthusiastically. she didn’t really want to be alone today, after all, but she couldn’t justify a visit to her family.

there was a bit of shopping she had to do and jynx found herself out and about. honestly, she didn’t even need that much, it was a trip that didn’t her car but it was nice to be able to drop her bags off between trips if she didn’t stray too far. 

she was about to get in the car for the real, drive off and head home when she heard someone call out to her. as they got closer, she realized who it was, putting a smile on her face. “well, happy birthday for one! how old are you turning.” jynx was sure she knew the idol -alice?- but she didn’t know how old the girl was turning. “i’d love to go cake testing with you.” really, she’d love it. “and it’ll be my treat since it’s your birthday.”

❝ I see, ❞  he said, moreso to himself. So even established idols could forget who they were and what they were? It made him feel a little better about the slip up. Daehyun grinned brightly as he looked up at her. ❝ Really? That must be hard. Do you sneak out sometimes? My manager will probably do that with me soon. Thankfully, he’s still getting to know me and my habits. ❞ Daehyun chuckled.

The vocalist let out a soft laugh at her reply to his question and smiled brightly. ❝ Hyung, really? Then hyung it is! ❞ He said excitedly. However, once she began asking about the idol life, he puffed his cheeks and his expression dropped a little. ❝ It’s.. It’s good. It’s not what I thought it would be but nothing is ever easy, right? It’s not like I planned this from the start so I still have so much to learn but I’m getting there. Do you have any advice? ❞ Being an idol was a lot harder than he thought it would be but he wasn’t one to give up easily. ❝ Oh perfect! So do I. We will get along well then. ❞ He smiled.

“i do sneak out well...i did. i live on my own by now but sometimes i’d do it and just go to the lobby of our dorm.” just to give her manager a scare and then she could have a good laugh. “but mostly, i’m not allowed to go on some shows by myself. i tend to think before i speak and i don’t have the best delivery.” she was of the mind that some found it charming. the company didn’t always agree with her, even if some fans did. 

“cool, i don’t get too many people who would go for it.” he was her new favorite person. jynx reached out and gave him quick pat, “it isn’t. it wouldn’t be right to sugar coat it for you. some days, you’ll be head in clouds and somedays...you’ll wonder why you even thought about becoming an idol.” the highs were super high and the lows were able hard to come back from. “it wasn’t my goal to become an idol either, i just followed wherever life took me.”

with how little free time jaein actually has, it shouldn’t be surprising that she doesn’t particularly have a hobby. whenever she’s asked about it during interviews, she simply says the generic things like listening to music or watching movies. truth be told, she doesn’t really listen to all that much music during her downtime nor does she know what movies are currently playing in theater. 

that being said, she can’t understand how this could be relaxing. she thinks having to scrapbook would be stressful, but she blames that on her perfectionist attitude on everything. “does it take you a long time? i’ve seen my old sister spend like an hour on one page.” she stops before she goes on to say that it’s ridiculous because she doesn’t know if jiyoo is like that as well. “just seems like a lot of dedication.”

“no it doesn’t, which probably means i’m doing it wrong.” she let out a small giggle, “i will say it does take a lot of dedication.” for her, it was mostly going back through old photos and trying to figure out what she wanted to get or where to look to get it. “for now, i’ve been just picking photos and putting them in album, along with a date or something like that. i haven’t made it pretty or anything.” which was why she found herself here right now. “i do someone i think might spend hours on it, the person that introduced me to getting into it.”

firework, comeback stage (447)

it was easy to get into the feel of the song while wanting more.

today was their comeback stage and she still had to mentally prep herself a little. firework had been a mixed experience for her. for one, jiyoo did love the sound of the song, the mood of it. she was sure gold star would sneak some cute songs in there but was different and at this point, she loved different.

but the dance for the song was a little underwhelming.

their cuter song's had a better dynamics. there were some small movements that interested her but overall, it was a boring dance. "it's time to head to stage." one of her members nudged her, pulling her out of her thoughts for a moment. by the time she made it to the stage, she knew what she had to do. just focus on the positives first. as they took their places on stage, jiyoo gave a small wave to their fans and then closed her eyes, waiting for the music to start.

really, it was easy to get into the song once it started. sure, it wasn't extremely or sexy or anything but it got the job done. there was a subtle sexy about it that jiyoo could feel coming through and even if it was a bit darker, it fit the theme of a summer night. something that was a little more dangerous.

and still, there were the moves in the dance she liked. the first verse was a bit boring with one stand-out move sprinkled in. here, she let her facial's carry the performance. mostly seductive eyes and little smirks. at the right now moment, she'd bust out a smile for a second. the chorus wasn't bad, maybe because the song picked up so they were able to move with a bit more intensity.

that was a welcome change.

the second verse was a little more interesting but here, she tried to show off how much she enjoyed the song visually. there was a bit more of a sway to her moves, if there was one thing she could, it was make the dance her own. as long as they could continue to make songs like this.

the best part by far was the little bit of floor work they had been given. it added much needed flavor to the dance and from then on, jiyoo was really into it. it felt like the song built up perfectly and they had moves that she could really work with. when the song came to an end and they were allowed to move, she shot another wave towards the fans as they walked off stage.

The younger smiled and shook his head softly. ❝ Don’t be sorry it’s ok! I appreciate your concern, sunbae. Sometimes I forget I’m now an idol. It’s still weird hearing or thinking about it. ❞ Not too long ago, Daehyun had been a regular student who was literally thrown into a survival show with no prep. Now he was a debuted idol. He often forgot about that. ❝ It’s probably stupid, right? To forget you’re an idol. I bet you don’t, sunbae. ❞

❝ Right. Ok. Don’t be formal. ❞  He repeated, mostly to himself as a reminder. It was weird to be less formal with those who were older or more experienced than he was but being the people pleaser he was, he will do what it takes to make others happy. ❝ Jiyoo noona. Gotcha. I’m Daehyun but you can call me Hyun. It’s nice to meet you! ❞ He grinned brightly and nodded. He gestured for her to join him on the seat. ❝ Please, sit down. The same goes to you, noona. ❞

“ahh, no worries. it is an bit of an adjustment.” even her, who easily slid into the role of idol had to think about a few things differently. jiyoo let out another chuckle, “but i do, at the most random times and the most random things. my manager doesn’t allow me out much because of that. think of this as my break out. i can be a bit too goofy at times.”

“noona is fine but i like hyung more, it sounds cooler.” she let out a small laugh and went to sit down next to him, giving a bit of space so she could place the snacks and food down. “hyun, well, how is going, the grand life of idol? is it everything you thought it would be?” some people were in for a rude awakening and she felt bad for those few. “ahhh don’t say that, you’ll never have money again, i eat...a lot.”

jaein’s taken back by the offer to buy everything. taking a look at what was held between her fingers, she calculated that it wasn’t a whole lot to begin with but still. there was a part of her that didn’t want to be indebted to jiyoo, and so she put down one of the masking tapes that she picked up later on. those little things cost more than her stickers combined, and she’s sure jaeeun can do without them. 

“thanks,” she said as she settled her things down onto the counter besides jiyoo’s basket. “you must really like stationary.” there were a lot of little things in her basket to the point of overflowing. while she couldn’t understand her own sister’s hobby of scrapbooking and decorating her diary, she can see how it could become a hobby. “do you use it to relax?”

if anything was amiss, jiyoo didn’t take notice, instead she focused on the space around her as the cashier worked. head in the clouds, that was the type of person she was. she had always been. “oh? i do find it relaxing.” now that she really thought about it. it had taken a moment to realize the other girl was speaking to her. “and no worries! i’m not that much into it, not yet at least. i just got into scrap-booking but i think my books look a little boring, hopefully, now that i’ve bought the stuff, i’ll use it.”

“hey, do you have any cash?” 

this isn’t entirely her fault. or so jaein likes to think. who carries around cash nowadays? everything was done through mobile phones or credit cards. she can’t remember the last time she’s actually carried around anything more than a card wallet. back when she was a student, sure, but the moment she became a trainee, everything’s either been paid for her by the company or she simply didn’t go out anywhere to need money on her. 

that’s why she’s taken back that this place is cash only. what she learns is that perhaps next time, she should read signs put on doors more carefully before walking in. it’s a little embarrassing to take back whatever she was planning on buying as well so she decided that the next best solution was to ask the poor soul standing besides her if they had any cash on them. she could have probably worded it better because she’s sounding like some iljin stealing lunch money from a fellow student, but that doesn’t stop her from looking upon them with desperate eyes, hoping that they’re better than she is and actually carries cash.

she had really taken to scrap-booking. all of the photos were there but something told her to go out and buy some supplies. it didn’t take long to find the closet stationery store. quickly, she threw an outfit together and made her way out. jiyoo had just caught the sign on her way in and then she had a little side adventure so she could find an atm. 

once everything was settled, jiyoo returned and shopped away. by the time she was finished, her little basket was overflowing. “yeah, no problem.” jiyoo was pretty sure she had enough and if she didn’t, she could run and get some more cash. “i’ll just buy it all together.” she turned to the clerk and set her basket down on the counter.

seungwoo couldn’t help smiling as he watched jiyoo blow at her coffee. “you’re welcome – and i’ll have you know, i got them to put enough syrup in it that it’s gotta be cool enough to drink already,” he teased. still, he let her blow away on it until she was content with temperature, watching her fondly. he was the type to take his coffee either scalding hot or icy cold, there was no in between. today, thanks to a fun fact he read on some bullshit website once that said drinking warm things was better for combating the heat, it was the former. 

“yeah, you’d say that, wouldn’t you?” he rolled his eyes, even as a faint blush rose to the top layer of his skin. “you know they’re a real pain to get out of too, right? they stick to you and you gotta peel them off. it’s the worst. zero outta ten. sexy in concept, not sexy at all in practice.” but if she asked him to, he’d probably still wear them for her. seungwoo wondered if it was at all smart of them to chit-chat like this at work, but he also doubted any of the staff actually cared. they were too busy running around trying to get everything ready in time. such a large scale concert required a lot of prep work.“i watched you guys rehearsing earlier, by the way. you looked cute up there.” 

“you think of everything.” jynx let out a small giggle, this time drinking more of her coffee. she itched to get a little closer to seungwoo but that wouldn’t do. honestly, the staff might not care and the american staff really wouldn’t. it was the chance that it could get exposed to the public. 

“i’d very much say that, should i say it again.” jiyoo sent a wink towards seungwoo, enjoying the way she got a rise out of him. “i think peeling them off you would be very sexy.” she muttered it but the leering look she had given him should’ve been enough. “or would you like to peel me out of mines?” a second saucy look followed by a bright smile. “thank you! i want to put on the perfect show.”

ha — another happy idol, in the happy idol world, lamenting the shit concept to him. it’s a damn flaw, non-existent when bc’s fucked him over more ways than one. there’s no happy medium in a contract of modern day slavery.

but gyujeong ignores the comment, rolls his eyes far back, plucking the cigarette from his mouth. “it’s america — what do you expect from this country?” early years inside childhood would give the impression of the country as one of extra-large sizes, and free-for-all buffets. now, he just knows — it’s another capitalistic mecca, bigger than what lies in the heart of seoul.

by now, the conversation looks grim. more annoyances starting to imprint itself, transferring from the weighty sigh leaving his mouth. “do i have a reason to know you?” one, two — he counts the seconds on a nonexistent clock, turning a conspicuous gaze towards her. “good shit doesn’t come from knowing people in the industry. it comes from ignoring.”

jiyoo rolled her eyes and took another bite of her hotdog. most of her focus was on the fashion show going on in front of her.  “nothing, which is why i can be delighted as the small things like this.” she shrugged her shoulders, unwilling to let his general demeanor bring her down. 

“did i say you had a reason to know me?” she countered, raising a brow and not bothering to look his way. “you asked do we know each other, i said we might. i don’t know your name but i think you’re in knight.” she did wait until she finished chewing to speak again and now her hotdog was gone and a small frown appeared on her face. and if ignoring was what he wanted, jiyoo could do it. in response to last words, she shrugged her shoulders and clapped at the the model that just made her turn, stepping away from the other idol a bit so she could get a better look.

open!  june 10th, concert rehearsals. 

“coffee has arrived!” seungwoo announces as cheerily as he’s capable of, both hands and both cups held up in the air above his head. he never minds doing errand runs like these for his friends – be they fellow idols, who were still waiting for their turn on stage, or staff, who had better things to do backstage than fetch coffee – it beat waiting around endlessly, even if all he ultimately accomplished was killing a handful of minutes. it’s gotten him in trouble once or twice, but slipping in and out seamlessly is a skill that seungwoo basically mastered as a rookie. he’s practically a veteran now.

he hands over their order, and mindlessly, his eyes wander, landing on the group currently being ferried onto the stage for rehearsals. things were really starting to stretch on into the evening, and seungwoo doesn’t know if mars’ early spot in the lineup is a blessing or a curse. it’s an annoyance, anyways. he much prefers waiting around for something rather than after. he takes a long sip from his coffee, nose wrinkling at the bitter taste. he likes it though, and likes it more again for the reprieve it offers from the heat as it slides back his throat.

seungwoo fully registers the humidity in the air around him, and groans. “– i’m gonna boil alive on stage when it’s actually time. leather pants in june … that’s just fucked up.”

aria had already left the rehearsal stage. and jynx had hung back to watch everyone else practice. that and the coffee that was currently being placed in her hands. she didn’t bother to take a sip, that didn’t need to happen right this second. Spicy, that was something she could handle but just plain old hot? It wouldn’t work. 

“Thank youuuu~” jiiyoo sing-song and gave seungwoo a smile. 

“leather pants in june, sounds sexy.” for her to see at least. she let out another chuckle and finally took  a sip of her coffee, filled with sugar and other sweet stuff. “i wouldn’t want to be wearing it.” that was true but she didn’t mind looking at seungwoo in them. “that is really gold though, i guess the company knows what the people like.”

“hey, have you seen this coffee shop anywhere?”

after her photography class had come to a close, seolhwa had set out into the city on her own with her camera strapped around her neck to get more pictures to take back home with her. she’d never done scrapbooking before, but she was willing to start if she could arrange all the pretty views she’d seen so far in california.

unfortunately, somewhere in the midst of her photo-taking adventure, she’d ended up following her phone’s gps on a wild goose chase looking for a coffee shop she’d heard good things about. her phone tells her she’s standing right in front of it. she’s decidedly not, and she hates looking stupid, but walking in circles in the heat for any longer doesn’t sound appealing either.

she rushes over to the fellow idol she’d noticed and stopped, showing them the coffee shop’s logo on her phone. “i heard they have the best iced soy lattes in the city. if you help me find it, i’ll buy you lunch.”

jiyoo took a second to look up from her phone. intent on following the directions she had been given. it felt like any small thing could throw her off in the long run. thankfully, it was a fellow idol and she didn’t feel the need to be on guard. “oh, what place is it?” 

her eyes followed the other girls phone and jiyoo nodded her head. “i don’t know how much i’ll end up being but i’ll do my best, i’m looking for the same place.” at least she wouldn’t be lonely in this challenge any longer. “one of the staff sent me directions, we’re close i think.” at least, she wanted to be close, it felt like she had been walking forever.
