fmdseolhwa:
seolhwa’s eyes drink in the cover, making a mental note of its appearance and the title adorning it for later. femme fatale is busier lately since gold star has decided it’s time to trot them out for their yearly cash grab and time to read isn’t as easy to grab as it is the rest of the year when they’re spending all of their time traveling or on set for another photo shoot or commercial shoot, but she keeps a list of books to read to catch up on as soon as she’s left floating on her own again.
“it sounds good,” she replies. “i’ll check it out when i get the chance. there’s nothing quite as inspiring as a well-done anthology.” she’d almost rather sit and talk about books now that the topic has been raised, but she doesn’t want to be rude and abandon the reason she’d caught his attention in the first place. she lets him connect his earphones to her phone and plays the demo track, waiting expectantly as he listens.
she listens to his suggestion, nodding softly as he speaks. “hmm, so, it would set itself up as one story at the beginning, but there’s a turning point where it becomes something the listener didn’t expect.” she repeats for confirmation. “the bridge would be a good place for that, you’re right. the instrumental switches up there, so the story could, too.” she looks down at her blank notebook, determined to come up with something, but when lyrics don’t come to mind, she scribbles down a summary of what she’d just parroted back to him instead. “or…,” she hesitates, looking back up. “like the book you’re reading is an anthology, the song could go over different relationships over time for each verse and then the bridge. and the chorus connects them somehow. or that could be the twist. is that too much?”
he almost offers to lend his copy to her, but instead, seungwoo slides the book back across the table towards himself. ever cautious of boundaries in recent years, he figures that they’re not close friends yet -- he’ll share a book with anyone, but he’s met people who love books who almost look down on him for it. they protect their copies, they say. they can’t trust anyone else not to dog-ear them. personally, seungwoo thinks that sounds pretty over the top. “you should. -- if you do, just shoot me a message. i can lend you mine.” ah, his loose tongue. he offered to lend it in the end anyways.
seungwoo, with his careful hands, disconnects his earphones, and tucks them back into their case, into his pocket. he returns his ear to seolhwa, chin resting on the heel of his hand as she relays his idea back to him. seungwoo nods, smiling. even if his own real contributions to mars’ discography is
“no, that’s not too much.” seungwoo insists, sitting up a little straighter, foot tapping beneath the table. “i think that’s good. actually, i think it might be an even better idea. i dunno about it being a twist ... well, not explicitly a twist, anyways, you get me? i think it’d be better to leave it as something the listener sort of has to piece together themselves for listening -- unless that’s what you were thinking as well.” a pause. “the instrumental’s pretty summery. they could all be summer romances. fleeting, on vacation, that kinda thing. unless that’s too cliche.”
#fmddmsq321 / a brief look at how seungwoo spends his time off at the start of july, feat. his shaky relationship with himself and his shakier relationship with his brothers. word count: 489.
seungwoo was thankful for the time off at the beginning of july. truthfully, work hadn’t been fulfilling him lately. it wasn’t for lack of schedules or a lull in mars’ general activity, rather, it was a problem on seungwoo’s part. his heart had started wandering -- not away from his members, or his friends, or jiyoo. it was nothing like that. it was more like he had, in the last handful of months, lost some of his drive for performing. last time this happened, he’d been younger, and angrier, and happy to aimlessly waste away what little time off he had filling up the hours with drinking and debauchery.
nowadays, not so much. he turned himself around years ago, and as tempting as it was sometimes, to fall back on old habits, because they’re what he was most familiar with, seungwoo decided to do something at least semi-useful with his free time. he was going to go home.
over the years, he’d been home a fair handful of times, making that three hour train journey pass by a little faster with the company of a good book in his hands and some good music in his ears. he was happier to go home now than he had been other times in the past -- he and his brothers were getting on better than they had in a long time, maybe even better than they ever have.
when they were young, it was tougher. he’d been too much for them, a wild middle child through and through. he was a nuisance back then, and now, as an adult, he could see their point of view. he’d really refused to grow up for all that time. his younger brother, two years his junior in age, had gotten his life together so much faster. older now, they could sit, drinks in hand, around the electric fireplace his parents got installed last year and really catch up.
and as guilty as it felt to admit it to himself, it was reassuring to hear that they weren’t settled ideally in their careers either. a surgeon and a psychologist -- they’d always been so much smarter than him -- and yet they were still struggling too. his sensible brothers, for all the wisdom he’d always assumed them to have, were questioning themselves. it was a side of them he never got to see when they were kids. he supposed he might’ve gotten to, if he hadn’t always been so self-absorbed.
“hey!” clicking fingers pulled seungwoo back to the real world. he looked over at his brother with a single raised eyebrow, clearly not fully grown out of his status as the brat of the family. he laughed, asking with a hint of bitterness, “what’re ya moping for? you’re the star outta the three of us.”
seungwoo forced out a smile. maybe the wounds weren’t fully healed, but at least they were starting to scab over.
fmdtaejin:
taejin guesses it’s the mutual point of understanding. the unspoken word of the leaders when their handbook writes itself by intuition and instinct-pulled reactions. long lost running head-deep in the waters where nobody gives you the rules of the play by play, they both have their own respective responsibilities tossed by the title of leader.
his body pauses, freezes up — a thought collected when his eyes deter to the corner of the room. avoidance? no, it’s the compiling of memories, catering back forth to each intrusion he makes inside his members’ homes. “you know, they say the way to people’s hearts is through food — playing mom from decipher’s early years is the reason i know how to cook now.” taejin eyes the camera once more, flashes a quick grin before honing his attention back to seungwoo, excusing his own fan service with a hesitant look. “the staff and pds are always overexhausted and overworked. they do so much and don’t actually reap the benefits or the recognition.”
it’s all about the process. the piece by piece puzzle that slots into place — all avenues from the industry, behind the scenes and straight on. taejin serves gratitude where it’s due, and by the time he has his hand clasped together, bowing his head looking straight in the eyes of the filming crew, he mouths a ‘thank-you’ right on point.
“they have to plan way ahead of time, and if we thought our schedules were completely full, then you haven’t caught sight of a pd’s. they’re often working even off-hours, preparing to make sure everything is in position or constantly foraging for new ideas. it’s a pure art, i say.”
“mhm, food is definitely the fastest route to anyone’s affections. especially when ...” seungwoo makes a vague gesture with his hands, cue cards between his fingers, and cuts himself off with a laugh that originates from his chest rather than his gut. when you’re rookies, is what he wanted to say. dimensions, back in the day more so than now, weren’t shy about cutting their idols’ food supplies back to motivate them. once the whirlwind of mars’ rushed debut was over, seungwoo learned very quickly to put his sneaking skills to use not only for his own stupid benefits, but for his members’ too.
sometimes he wonders if he actually got away with everything, or if mars’ managers at the time had noticed his bullshit and just felt sorry for him.
“hey, maybe we’ve done enough for our members by now, hm?” seungwoo suggests, settling back further in his chair. “next time, let’s promise to bring some homemade food along for the pds and the rest of the crew. how about it?”
but, that’s not what this interview is actually meant to be about. as charming as taejin will probably come across regardless of what they talk about, they should get back on track. seungwoo straightens his cue cards against his thigh, crossing one leg over the other. “speaking of new ideas, though, what’s up next for you? are there any spoilers you’re allowed to give us?”
fmdtaejin:
it’s a question of what you do when the position’s presented, and in taejin’s case — he’d never expect the roll of events that weave together camaraderie and an unbreakable bond, leading to the random brush-ins in his member’s apartments and the random cook here and there. it’s the thought of self-growth, he supposes. at least, enough to make the edges of his lips pull upward in a wide grin.
“lead by example? i don’t think i’ve ever set an example.” he laughs, and humility this time comes unplanned when he shies away from his camera, masking the grin with the wave of his hand. “or at least i don’t intend for that. the most i’ve done as a leader is randomly walk into my member’s apartments, and cook them the good whole lunch here and there.” his fingers come to scratch the side of his face — an odd rarity of unease that comes when he’s forced to spotlight his duties off-camera as an ‘idol’. the past few years have only stepped away from that moniker, into the mold of an actor — that’s where the neutrality of his comfort lies.
and on cue, the question mounts him back to a sense of poise, quirking his head towards the side, lips pursed together in a second thought. “depending on the role, i do a lot of method acting and follow a strict work out depending on the role. for itaewon class i did a lot of running since that was part of park saeroyi’s daily regimine, re-read the webtoon, and so forth. for producers, it was actually more difficult as i only know what it’s like in front of the cameras, and i had to pretend like i was essentially a stranger to the industry.” he pulls one leg over the other, hands crossed on top, holding his knee in place. “i had to meet up with a lot of the PDs to get a sense weeks before shooting started.”
he won’t force his point -- regardless of whatever taejin thinks of himself, seungwoo has his own impression of him too, formed over years of friendship. it was reverent, almost, at first, the way that seungwoo looked at taejin. that focus and barely conscious insistence that taejin was the opposite to seungwoo himself (that is to say, that taejin was the good, to his unfortunate bad) was something that had long faded from the forefront of seungwoo’s mind as they became real friends, but he supposes that maybe this initial way of thinking is what has him, to this day, so certain of the goodness in taejin. it was the influence he’d had on seungwoo that he was talking about really, even if he didn’t realise it.
“sometimes that’s all people need though, right? someone who’ll show up and show how they care, even when they didn’t ask for or expect it,” is all that he says, slowly nodding along with himself. he’s probably going to look like a bobble head in the final cut of this thing. “especially if they show it with some good food.”
hearing taejin talk about acting was interesting, and seungwoo sat forward, leaning against the arm of his chair as he listened. mars’ activities had been ... slow recently. no, not slow, more like unsatisfying. they’re still doing a lot, it’s just not filling seungwoo up the way it has in the past. maybe it’s because of the songs, or maybe he’s still coming down from the high of releasing something as good as chained up.
or maybe, he should try talking to his manager about branching out.
“i never thought of that angle -- i just assumed it would be easier for you because of your experience, instead of the other way around. but ...” and he gestures to the other side of the camera with a smile. “i guess we don’t really understand everything the pds and the rest of the staff do for us.” it’s a little cringe, sure, but it’s true. he really does appreciate the work they do. “did you learn anything interesting from your chats with the pds?”
fmdseolhwa:
seolhwa notices the book after she’s already interrupted him and her eyes light up a little. “what are you reading?” she asks, suddenly distracted from her initial mission. she’s well-known for having at least one book in her bag wherever she goes but in an industry where so little free time is afforded to many, she doesn’t usually expect other idols to be as avid of readers as she is. any time she gets a hint they might be, she can’t stop her curiosity from showing.
“oh, yes, it’s a song.” she remembers the topic at hand. “it’s not as if i have my name all over komca.” she has an exact zero credits to her name, in fact. “so any help is appreciated. i’ve been trying to improve my lyric-writing, so i got some old instrumentals from some of the producers i know to practice writing to. i have this track,” she lifts up her phone, where the breezy electronic pop track is paused, “but it’s not a genre i’m used to, and i’m stuck.”
“the obvious is to write about some kind of vacation or first love, but i don’t want to be obvious.” not that some sad dirge-like lyrics would fit either, and gold star didn’t seem to have any preoccupation with avoiding the obvious when it came to femme fatale, but seolhwa didn’t want to stagnate into doing solely what was expected or she’d never grow.
“oh? uh,” seungwoo holds up the book, cover facing seolhwa so she could get a good look at it. “it’s an anthology of short stories by different authors. they’re all about, like, love and relationships. some are real sappy, but most of them ... i dunno, they’ve got a kinda bittersweet feeling to them.” love is like that though, he figures. he’s been lucky -- any thing resembling a healthy relationship like the one he has nowadays, with the one he has it with especially, seemed like a far off fantasy once upon a time.
“can i give it a listen?” conscious of sharing and ear wax and all those lovely gross things, seungwoo offers to connect his own earphones to seolhwa’s phone. it’s not that he’s a dirty kind of guy, on the contrary he prides himself on being clean, but he couldn’t take the embarrassment if he did leave some kind of mark on her earphones.
once he’s heard it, seungwoo sets himself to thinking. seolhwa’s right. it would suit some kind of fresh, summery theme, but it felt a little too obvious. “yeah, not if this is a writing exercise, right? you wanna push yourself outside the box.” his eyes land on the cover of his book again, and it spurs on an idea. “it could still be about a first love or something like that, but with a bittersweet twist woven in, maybe. subvert people’s expectations in the last lines of the verses or in the bridge, or something.”
fmdjynx:
“you think of everything.” jynx let out a small giggle, this time drinking more of her coffee. she itched to get a little closer to seungwoo but that wouldn’t do. honestly, the staff might not care and the american staff really wouldn’t. it was the chance that it could get exposed to the public.
“i’d very much say that, should i say it again.” jiyoo sent a wink towards seungwoo, enjoying the way she got a rise out of him. “i think peeling them off you would be very sexy.” she muttered it but the leering look she had given him should’ve been enough. “or would you like to peel me out of mines?” a second saucy look followed by a bright smile. “thank you! i want to put on the perfect show.”
happily, seungwoo nods in agreement, tapping his temple with his finger. “always do.”
with the side of his foot, seungwoo bumps her shin, playfully chiding jiyoo, even as his face heated up in front of her. he shakes his head, and hides his blush behind his coffee cup as he tips his head back to take a long drink from it -- one that he very nearly chokes on. it’s the type of thing that wouldn’t have flustered him at all back in the day, the type of line that he might have even tried on someone after a couple of drinks. snapping back to attention, seungwoo laughs. it’s different coming from someone like jiyoo, someone he cares about, someone ... no, the l word isn’t something he’s ready for, even if it applies.
“outta yours? sure. but seriously, i’m gonna have sweat everywhere, so,” he shrugs, and speaks with a casual candor, “it might be better if we took it to the shower.” the way jiyoo snaps between sexy and cute is one of the most charming things about her, according to seungwoo. he reflects her smile back at her. “and you will! no matter what.” he almost adds that as long as you’re there, it will be perfect but thinks twice. nope, too cheesy, even for him.
fmdseolhwa:
open !
seolhwa sits in the corner of the cafe, books piled neatly in the corner of the small table she occupies. it’s one of her favorite cafes, special because it features instagram-worthy interior design but remains mostly empty at this time of day. a notebook is laid out in front of her, the open page covered in words written and then crossed out. earbuds sit perched in her ears, and she’s fallen into a blackhole in time, unaware of how long she’s been sitting there, listening to the track on loop and trying to write words to it. it’s an exercise she’d read about online to become a better songwriter, so she’d talked a producer she knew into sending a few discarded demo tracks her way for her to play around with writing lyrics to.
she’s stuck on this one though and her eyes have slipped from the page in front of her to wander around the cafe and its sparse occupants. it’s not usual for her to ask favors out of nowhere, but when she accidentally makes eye contact with the person at the table closest to her, she decides to just go for it. “can i pick your brain? i’m trying to write something. do you think you could help?” at worst, they give her a dirty look and ignore her and, at best, this becomes a wildly good story to tell about how she wrote her future hit solo song.
so, it seems like this place isn’t something of a rare gem, and that other idols are privy to seungwoo’s regular’s location and its quietness. by the time he’d sat down with his coffee and his book and actually spotted seolhwa though, she’d already been seemingly hard at work, essentially dead to the world around her. still, seungwoo had thrown a polite nod of greeting her way, even knowing it wouldn’t be caught.
ah, but maybe it had been. in a brief moment that seungwoo pulls away from his book, drawn to alertness by the sound of someone’s chair scraping against the ground, he meets seolhwa’s gaze, and she speaks. one finger between the pages to keep his spot, seungwoo closes over his book to hear her out.
“yeah, why not?” he dog-ears his book and awkwardly transfers his belongings over to seolhwa’s table. -- was that too presumptuous? ah well. he glances down at the blank paper on the table. “is this for a song? my members might be better choices to ask for help, but i’ve written a couple things as well.” and he’d like to try writing more, maybe, one day.

fmdhyeju:
though she’s a bit hesitant, she takes the drink that seungwoo offers to her. taking a look at it, she’s not sure if she’ll enjoy it or not, but she tries a sip anyway. it’s not bad, but she still doesn’t think she’ll finish all of it. nevertheless, she puts it down next to her water and makes a mental note to attempt at drinking it from time to time. “thankfully, no,” she says in response to seungwoo’s question as she tries to recall lipstick’s outfits for the festival. “it’s summery thanks to the songs we’re performing. still tight but nowhere near as uncomfortable a leather.”
she can’t say she remembers what that specific mars song sounds like because hyeju can barely keep up with the releases of people from her own company. she’s pretty sure she just mistook one of the chroma girls as a staff member because she didn’t know they had debuted already. “who knows what bc was thinking when they assigned songs to us. we’re just performing our two latest songs, but i know for sure that some of our older ones would fit better as well,” she points out before fanning herself with what she thinks was a piece of paper that had a rundown of her schedule for the day.
“that’ll definitely get some screams out though i’ve heard that fans prefer the subtle peaks of skin even more.” it’s something she’s heard through the grapevine because she’s not one of those idols who check fan reactions for things. it explains some of the outfit choices that she’s had in the past though. “just rip it apart if you’re going to take it off though. give them something to lose their voice over.”
“do you just mean for the concert or ... ?” something reminiscent of a smile pulls at one corner of his lips, a well meaning poke at hyeju’s company’s carelessness in choosing tracks for their older groups. he feels he’s earned the right to, after so much time spent suffering through the very worst of mars’ releases. yeah, he hadn’t really cared for valkyrie when he first heard it, but it was still leagues ahead of their debut and first couple of comebacks. lipstick’s situation is different though, he supposes. they had a banger of a tune for a debut ... he wonders if that’s the vibe and era bc is trying to recreate for some unknown reason. “wait, right, you guys had that whole sexy train conductor thing happening in your last comeback. that’s kinda fun. i wouldn’t mind that.”
if he adjusts himself to try and catch some of the breeze from hyeju’s would-be fan, then that’s nobody’s business, really.
“alright so, my options are to either unbutton just a bit to appeal to the subtlety thing, or go all the way by popping all the buttons in one big, dramatic go.” as he sips from his straw, seungwoo mulls the possibilities around in his mind. “the latter is definitely more mars, but ... i dunno.” i’m spoken for now, after all. “i probably won’t do either. i feel like those days are behind me already.” they were only behind him by about two or three days, really. he was still kind of bloated from all the salty food he’d eaten at the food truck festival. “i think i will just bust the seams on my pants after all. thanks, hyeju.”
fmdjynx:
aria had already left the rehearsal stage. and jynx had hung back to watch everyone else practice. that and the coffee that was currently being placed in her hands. she didn’t bother to take a sip, that didn’t need to happen right this second. Spicy, that was something she could handle but just plain old hot? It wouldn’t work.
“Thank youuuu~” jiiyoo sing-song and gave seungwoo a smile.
“leather pants in june, sounds sexy.” for her to see at least. she let out another chuckle and finally took a sip of her coffee, filled with sugar and other sweet stuff. “i wouldn’t want to be wearing it.” that was true but she didn’t mind looking at seungwoo in them. “that is really gold though, i guess the company knows what the people like.”
seungwoo couldn’t help smiling as he watched jiyoo blow at her coffee. “you’re welcome -- and i’ll have you know, i got them to put enough syrup in it that it’s gotta be cool enough to drink already,” he teased. still, he let her blow away on it until she was content with temperature, watching her fondly. he was the type to take his coffee either scalding hot or icy cold, there was no in between. today, thanks to a fun fact he read on some bullshit website once that said drinking warm things was better for combating the heat, it was the former.
“yeah, you’d say that, wouldn’t you?” he rolled his eyes, even as a faint blush rose to the top layer of his skin. “you know they’re a real pain to get out of too, right? they stick to you and you gotta peel them off. it’s the worst. zero outta ten. sexy in concept, not sexy at all in practice.” but if she asked him to, he’d probably still wear them for her. seungwoo wondered if it was at all smart of them to chit-chat like this at work, but he also doubted any of the staff actually cared. they were too busy running around trying to get everything ready in time. such a large scale concert required a lot of prep work.“i watched you guys rehearsing earlier, by the way. you looked cute up there.”
suwei loved to eat. however her career choice has made eating what she wants difficult. keeping up a skinny figure was important in the industy. and she did a good job doing that. but it meant that she didn’t always get to snack the way she wanted to when she wanted to. but when traveling she made sure to treat herself to the most unhealthiest items she could find. it was the day of the first concert and in two days they would be leaving. so she knew she had to take a trip to the grocery store to get some sweets. she scanned the aisle of candy picking up a few bags of chocolate, gummies, and a couple bars of chocolate. she was going to share them with the other idols before the concert. they deserved it.
she kept the grocery bag hidden in her bag hoping a manger or staff member wouldn’t see it. she wasn’t normally sneaky but there was a first for everything. once she arrived she grabbed the grocery bag and went looking for someone to share her snacks with. she takes two steps out of her dressing room when she catches sight of a familiar face. “hey! you hungry?” she asks as they pass by.

one of seungwoo’s favourite things about events like these was stretching his legs, and exploring the venues. it wasn’t typical of him to slip away from so early in the night’s proceedings, but seungwoo’s wanderlust, one thing that has never let him, had taken over him pretty early. he gives his manager a courtesy nod, makes his promises to come back as soon as his urge to walk around is satiated -- it’s a well practiced routine by now. once everything is sorted out in mars’ dressing room, once all of his members are accounted for, seungwoo just likes to take a minute to himself, he always has. even in his wilder days, he always needed to take time out for himself. back then, they were moments of clarity. nowadays ... it’s not so much of a pressuring thing for himself. the time is genuinely spent relaxing.
it’s good.
as he’s taking his stroll, a door opens ahead of him, and out steps lucid’s suwei, his label junior. seungwoo holds up a hand to wave, but comes to a stop when she actually engages him in conversation. “huh? hi. oh?” he tilts his head to one side. “hungry? sure.”
fmdhyeju:
as someone who didn’t enjoy drinking coffee, she whips her head towards the voice of seungwoo’s voice with hopes that he’s bought something other than coffee as well. checking the color of the drinks, she realizes she’s hoping for too much. despite that, however, she still takes the drink that seungwoo hands over before setting it down on the table besides her. both their respective groups were finished with their rehearsals so she’s not sure why they have to stick around, but she’s too tired to even fight for her right to leave.
she grabs her water bottle and takes a big sip from it, trying to cool herself down. the california heat had been unbearable, and she thinks the air conditioning should be on a higher level to win over it. “that’s exactly why i hate wearing leather anything.” a groan leaves her lips as she remembers her own debut and how she was covered in leather for the whole month they had to perform. since then, she’d been opposed to wearing leather though she didn’t always get a choice. hyeju simply thinks it’s a poor choice for any season because it’s impossible for air to pass through. the sweating makes it even worse, and there’s no way an idol isn’t going to sweat on stage.
“good luck. maybe you should rip your pants on stage or something. it’ll both get you some air and have the fans screaming.” there’s a chuckle that comes from deep within her chest at the image of seungwoo just ripping his pants on stage. “it’d probably make headlines too. that’s satisfy dimensions, don’t you think? since the whole reason for this concert is to grab international attention or something.”
seungwoo catches the way hyeju’s eyes dart to the drinks, examining them, and he shakes his head. “you’re gonna need the energy. it’s this, six more hours of sleep i can’t provide, or some chemical experiment in a can that they’re selling as an energy drink.” with all the candor of a caring friend, seungwoo holds out the sweeter, less coffee-tasting of the two cups to hyeju. “drink your water in between sips of coffee.” as for himself, he sipped up his own bitter tasting order, the harshness just about mellowed out by the splash of milk added by his request.
“are you guys getting stuck into leather as well for this shit?” he realises then that he’s not able to really recall lipstick’s last couple of releases. he’d probably given them a cursory glance to throw his friends a view, but nothing in particular comes to mind. one of hyeju’s own solo releases does pop into his head, however. “i just wanna dance would’ve been perfect for an event like this, don’t you think? i wish we were performing take me higher or something ... i don’t like the song any more than the ones we are performing, but it’d just suit this place’s vibes better.”
he laughs along with hyeju, shaking his head with a scrunched up nose. “purposely ripping a pair of leather pants sounds like way too much effort, even if it would probably make some entertainment site’s festival highlights article. it’s more typical, but maybe i’ll unbutton my shirt or something if it gets too much. it’s white and i’m gonna be sweating through it anyways, right?”

miraefmd:
late at night after the june 12 concert : open !!
mirae was aware of the after-concert meal being offered, but following the conclusion of the concert, she couldn’t shake her craving for something she’d doubted would be offered to her there — ice cream. luckily, the wonders of the internet had told her there was an ice cream shop open late just down the block from where the catered meal was, so she’d sneaked out of the meal almost as soon as she’d arrived.
ten minutes, later, she was leaving the shop with two cones thanks to an ordering mix-up. in the hot night air, there was no way she was going to be able to eat both before they melted, so as soon as she saw a face she recognized as someone else in town with the companies under the street lights on her way down the block, she called out to get their attention. “hey, want an ice cream cone? i ended up with more than i anticipated, so it’s all yours if you want it. i have,” she raises her left hand, “purple yam or,” then her right, “rocky road.”
seungwoo wasn’t really interested in tucking into the after-concert meal for the second night in a row. he’d show his face tomorrow as a sign of good faith, but for now, he took the liberty of slipping off alone to explore the hotel’s surrounding areas. it wasn’t all that interesting -- it was practically the same as every other city he’d been to on tour or on holiday. the night air on his face was refreshing too, the same as it always felt after spending a night overheating from being stuffed into a pair of leather pants for dancing. it was one constant he was thankful for, always. the air wasn’t cool by any stretch of the imagination, but it was quiet, mostly peacefully still, and wasn’t laden down with sweat like the air backstage had been. seungwoo took a deep breath of it.
a figure coming towards him in the shape of hwang mirae shook him out of his stupor. he raised one hand in an awkward wave as she approached, picking himself up to stand up straight, rather than lean against the streetlight he’d taken residence at. “sure. uh, rocky road, if you don’t mind,” he happily accepted the gift. despite intentionally avoiding the meal, he had been hungry. “you know, i’m pretty sure they would’ve gotten you ice cream at the meal if you’d just asked.”
open! june 10th, concert rehearsals.
“coffee has arrived!” seungwoo announces as cheerily as he’s capable of, both hands and both cups held up in the air above his head. he never minds doing errand runs like these for his friends – be they fellow idols, who were still waiting for their turn on stage, or staff, who had better things to do backstage than fetch coffee – it beat waiting around endlessly, even if all he ultimately accomplished was killing a handful of minutes. it’s gotten him in trouble once or twice, but slipping in and out seamlessly is a skill that seungwoo basically mastered as a rookie. he’s practically a veteran now.
he hands over their order, and mindlessly, his eyes wander, landing on the group currently being ferried onto the stage for rehearsals. things were really starting to stretch on into the evening, and seungwoo doesn’t know if mars’ early spot in the lineup is a blessing or a curse. it’s an annoyance, anyways. he much prefers waiting around for something rather than after. he takes a long sip from his coffee, nose wrinkling at the bitter taste. he likes it though, and likes it more again for the reprieve it offers from the heat as it slides back his throat.
seungwoo fully registers the humidity in the air around him, and groans. “– i’m gonna boil alive on stage when it’s actually time. leather pants in june … that’s just fucked up.”
