“Hey, babe? I know I haven’t been able to answer the phone for the last couple of days, and I’m really sorry. Next time I’ll have to take you on tour because not being able to talk to you is hell, honestly. I know this won’t make up for being gone, but I made you a playlist. The little piece of paper that’s in here is the list of songs. DO NOT THROW IT OUT. Please read it. (I wrote some comments on each of the songs and why I added them) I love you, and I hope you like the playlist. I’ll see you in 21 days. :)
You read the letter with a big smile on your face. You quickly put on the CD that he sent and grabbed the paper, feeling excitement fill you up. The first song begins and you can feel yourself falling more in love already. The list only makes things better.
1st Song: Buried With You by Agent Ribbons. You are my best reason to wake up in the morning and you’re my best reason to stay up late at night.
2nd Song: That’s My Desire by Buddy Holly. God, all I wanna do is be with you right now. Go to our old hiding spots where we’d hang out after leaving one of Pete’s parties. That’s what I want most.
3rd Song: You by Tally Hall. I think about you so often. When I’m lying in my bunk and can’t sleep in usually just wishing I could call. When I’m on stage and I’m feeling nervous I just think about you and I instantly feel calm. You invade my thoughts too much, but I wouldn’t want to think about anyone else.
4th Song: Kiss Me Again by The Drums. This is how I feel whenever I’m off tour. I want to stay with you as long as I possible can
5th Song: Dream A Little Dream of Me by Ella Fitzgerald. This song reminds me of our first “I love you"s. I’m sorry you had to say it first, and I’m sorry it took me so long to respond. I was just so struck by the fact that someone who was more beautiful than the stars in the sky (and the stars were really bright that night) could love me. I swear I meant it that night, and I mean it just as much when I say it now. I love you.
6th Song: Satellite by Guster. You’re too far away. Even when you’re just at the store or I’m just at a one night event, you’re too far away. But even though you’re far away, you’re always here with me.
7th Song: How Deep is Your Love by The Bees Gees. "I wanna feel you in my arms again”. If that doesn’t describe me towards you, I don’t know what does.
8th Song: La Vie En Rose by Louis Armstrong. La vie en rose means “life in pink”. Even on my most blue days, you make everything in the world have the most beautiful pink filter.
9th Song: Let’s Get it On by Marvin Gaye. I’m sure you know what this song means. Please don’t make me explain it.
10th Song: I Just Wanna Make Love to You by Jimmy Smith. Again, hopefully you get the message.
11th Song: You Can Leave Your Hat On by Joe Cocker. Okay, this is the last song like this, I promise.
12th Song: The Way You Make Me Feel by Michael Jackson. Before you say I broke that promise: this song is not only about sex, it’s also about love. You turn on my heart, not just my sex drive.
13th Song: Dream Lover by Bobby Darin. This is from my perspective before I met you. Because, you know, you’re my dream lover.
14th Song: A Sunday Kind of Love by Etta James. You are most definitely a Sunday kind of love. Every Sunday either you, even the most lazy Sunday, is the best Sunday. And on Sunday’s that I can’t spend with you, I’m just wishing I was.
15th Song: Falling For You by Weezer. I can’t lie, I replayed this song over and over again the first couple weeks after I met you. If you ask Pete, he’d tell you how much I wouldn’t shut up about you.
16th Song: Junk of the Heart (Happy) by The Kooks. Sometimes I wonder if I actually wrote this song myself because of how much I relate to it. I really just want to make you happy, I hope you know that. That’s all I want for you, is as much happiness as I can possibly give you.
17th Song: Something Good Can Work by Two Cinema Club. I know towards the beginning a lot of people told us we weren’t going to make it. That we couldn’t last because I travelled so much. But I think we’ve proven them wrong and that something good can work. And I sincerely hopes it stays that way.
18th Song: Earth Angel by The Penguins. Because you are an absolute angel, and I am most definitely a fool who is madly in love with you.
Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra. I feel like I’m on another planet when I’m with you. Like you make this horrible planet turn into something interesting and beautiful, no matter what type of bad things are going on.
I Can Hear Music by The Beach Boys. Music is something I could never live without, and I’m so glad that you can understand that. Every sound you make is music, whether it’s you laughing or groaning while you’re stretching. Talking about something you love or moaning or even talking in the most monotone voice possible. Pure. Music.
Life is but a Dream by The Harptones. You make my life so happy and beautiful that I constantly feel like I must be living in some sort of perfect dream world. And whenever I pinch myself and realize that I have you in my real, actual life, I am amazed.

You immediately call him, and somehow he answers. You know it’s extremely late where he is.
“Babe?” You can tell he just woke up.
“I got your letter.” You tell him. You’re not even bothering to hide your excitement.
“Oh, well, did you like it?” His voice is filled with sleep and nerves.
“Of course! I love you so much.”
You can hear his sigh of relief. He begins to tell you about how he’s been waiting for you to get it for a couple days. You two talk until he falls asleep while still on the line, and you can hear his soft snores.
“I love you, Patrick.” You whisper, before you hang up the phone and go to listen to the CD again.
