Here’s an idea I had for the cover of the class book.
Chiaroscuro is an Italian word for ”light and shade”
I interpreted light and dark as similar to night and day.

Open House Flyer Front & Back
Still need to make corrections and update any new info but here’s what I have so far.
Open House Flyer Sketches
Here are some of the few ideas I sketched for the Open House flyer.
Myriad Interior Design
Here’s my design for the pages of the Myriad. For the cover I went with the peacock design, because peacock tails have a variety of colors just like the Myriad has a variety of content.
I used circles and the shape of a peacock tail as repeated elements for the pages. I also continued the fonts I used on the cover to the inside titles, running header and bylines.
Myriad Covers WIP
3 versions of the myriad cover I’ve been working on.
Cover Design
Here’s one of the covers I’m working on. Nothing final yet. I’m still working on concepts for typographic and photographic designs.
Cover Design Examples
Here are some covers I’ve been studying in preparation for the myriad cover design. I’m still undecided about what direction I’ll be pursuing for this and for the interior page design. Here’s what I liked about these covers:
Putting something, like an environment, pattern or texture, inside of another shape. (Feder Welt, Shadow Vibes, The Changing Nature of Work)
Designs using flat color (Never Love a Gamble, City on the Edge, Global Business Today)
Rearranging a picture like a puzzle (Branches)
3D Design (Enchantment)
Combining typography and background to convey a message (The Lake)
Page Design
Here’s the design I’ve been working on for the robot book. I wanted to incorporate things like gears and circuit boards into the design. However, the gears next to the page numbers are a little unnecessary so I’m mostly likely going to remove them.
Robot Book 1st Design
The layout is very plain right now so I’m going to focus on adding something so the pages don’t look so simple. I want to play around with the idea of gears and circuit patterns for the next design.
Myriad Final Flyer Designs
Here are the final versions of the flyers I designed for the Myriad.
I used circles as the main design element in the top one and triangles on the bottom. The majority of the class liked the top version more and I’m inclined to agree.
I hadn’t gotten through most of the bottom version in time for the first crit and even though I do like it after some reflection I think it feels too cluttered and doesn’t have as much negative space as the first design.
Myriad Flyer Thumbnails and First Digital Work
I’ll make alterations to the layouts and hierarchy as needed when I start working on the other digital flyers.
Looking at other flyers and thinking over my thumbnails has given me some ideas about how I can change the layout and hierarchy so things such as the deadline will read more clearly. I also need to make adjustments to the placement of my text so it fits in better with the design.
Flyer Ideas
Here are some examples of flyers that I’m looking at to give me some ideas for the Myriad flyer.
I have three ideas for the robot assignment:
An alarm clock doesn’t understand why humans need sleep
An umbrella who doesn’t get to see the rain since moving away from a rainy city
A mug that disagrees with humans’ choice in drinks
Finished zine made using pen, pencil and marker. I made illustrations for expressions I thought were funny or would make a nice visual picture, kind of like ones you’d see in a children's’ book.
Sketches and ideas for a zine about idioms and expressions.
Nametag based on the four personality types discussed in class (compliant/analytical and steady).
