Characters tend to get mischaracterised in fandom, because that’s probably the first thing we do when we get our hands them, but I think that the general reading of Travis specifically is so bewildering in the Sally Face fandom that it kinda irks me?
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m a Travis fan, I love him as much as the next depressed person with religious guilt, and I even ship Salvis pretty openly round these parts- but I think the point of his character whizzed past at lot of people’s heads, which is okay (I’m sure I’ve done this before) but i needed to talk about it:
Travis is not a ‘UwU soft boy’ who picks on Sal because he has feelings for him. Even if it were so, the gang has something that he will never have- freedom. They might be considered the weird kids of the school but they do whatever they want, they’re open about who they are, and they feel free to do it. They dress how they want, they talk how they want- Larry being a metalhead who listens to unconventional music , Sal being a crossdresser who doesn’t adhere to typical notions of gender expression, and Todd being openly gay.

Travis wants what they have, even subconsciously. When he is constantly tripping over himself to fit into a tightly bound box, they seem to completely ignore it. So he revolts instead. I hate to say ‘he’s just jealous’ but.. to my interpretation, that’s where his hatred and anger boil over. They’re already there, groomed into him from a young age, and where else can he get it out? If he even tried to stand up to his father, the results would be bloody.
Even if he gets out of the situation that he’s in which is likely not possible in canon, because of the fact his dad basically implements the cult into every aspect of Nockfell, Travis probably won’t get to a place with himself that allows him to do this anytime soon. Not after a lifetime of being abused by his father and growing up in the cult disguised as a church. That leaves a scar (yk what else leaves a scar? Kenneth’s gu-)
I grew up in the church myself. In a very religious country, in a very religious area, and in an even more religious family. And though my personal level of torment was NOT at the level Travis experienced, and I’m sure others have experienced worse then me, my faith did irreversible damage to my psyche. I believed I was being constantly under surveillance, that even the smallest sin would condemn me. I believed that I was a sin myself, because I just couldn’t understand, and I worked and thought differently to others. I was terrified of doubting my religion to any degree. Learning about other religions was a genuine risk to me because I could feel a slither of possibility God was not real. God hates the sin, not the sinner- but there is nothing pure about me, so I am the sin itself.
My point is, I was operating out of guilt, fear and shame- and so is Travis, to an insane extent. His father was pushing it onto him, so he was pushing it onto others. We all know Travis is gay and the we like to joke about it and how pathetic he is, but he was really being fed on constant hatred. That is what he’d been taught. He’s not just ‘afraid to accept it’ but he genuinely, genuinely believes that he is condemned. He genuinely trusts that there is a hell after death, and that because he is in love/likes someone that is where he doomed to go.
But that’s not to necessarily make his behaviour okay, because he’s starting the cycle again. Spewing hate -> spewing hate -> spewing hate. But for him he has no other option because nobody has ever taught him that he doesn’t need to keep the cycle going and because all that he’s come victim to is genueily horrendous.
His behaviour is a trauma response. It doesn’t make his behaviour any better, but it’s a trauma response. REASON, NOT EXCUSE.
Travis is a masterfully written character, he has so much depth that I haven’t even discussed here and His character serves as a reminder as to how religion can push children into a system of fear and shame, and how if they’re not taught any better, they will carry on to do the same to others.
Let me explain, first I'm sorry I've been inactive I had stuff to do, I've also been studying anatomy for,2 months? Mostly for NSFW that's going to be cropped and posted fully to my twitter or Instagram, I've been working on another drawing of my Sally face OC, Lorelei, of course I'm doing it when she's an adult, but she's naked and her boob is sticking out, the main reason I want to study anatomy and more than likely sex and kinks so I can possibly make more NSFW and suggestive arts for the people.
I cannot stand these irritating bots commenting on things I post on here, they'll say the same shit every damn time, such as how they aren't able to message you via dm's something must be wrong with your blog (very sus) and then the classic asking for commissions bots. It's so frustrating, irritating, annoying, just all of the above. smh.
Whenever I get a notification on here I do get pretty happy that people whether it's moots or anyone interact with a post I've already made or even a new post, I do get excited, but.. I'll go to my notifications and it's just those bots.
You also know it ain't just me dealing with this shit either, I just block em' or lazily delete their comment.

Am I the only one who thinks this is disrespectful to the artist @baphmochii?, I took a screenshot of this (i share boards with my friends, don't mind the name of the board)
But baphmochii has told another person to take their art off of pintrest bc it's not the persons art to post on Pinterest, unless this is baphmochii themself I don't see how the person who posted this can defend themselves, bc I also checked their account and it was mostly collages, I know a lot of people have more collages then art but it was ONE piece of art if remember correctly and the rest where collages
