Decoy- Chapter Six
No amount of heartache, no number of secret girlfriends, no amount of almost-could-have-beens, would have been enough. She would leave if it meant Kate would be safe, if she meant she would be left alone. Because she knew she would always love her, no matter what she put her through. With a gun to Kate’s back, Lucy was still willing to take the bullet.
“Stop,” she begged. He had finally broken her. “Please, stop.”
“What’s your answer?”
She looked up at him, face still blurred. He picked up the cigar and lit it again, taking a couple puffs. He knew he had won. He had the love of Lucy’s life in his hands and could have ended it at the drop of a hat. She couldn’t see his face, but she knew he was smiling.
“I’ll leave,” she gasped. “Tomorrow, this weekend, whenever, I’ll leave. Just please…please, leave her alone.”
He reached across the way and pushed the laptop closed.
“I’ll have a plane ready for you in two days. I suggest you get on it.” As Lucy stood up, he grabbed her harshly by the arm. “If I find out you ever come back here, I’ll kill you. But I’ll start with her.”
