Wrapped in glittery wrapping is a sewing kit equipped with all things that fancy his child's interests. "Foleo..." He calls out, tugging the other in an embrace. "Thank you for being born. To me."
❝ ah– ❞
they’re surprised by their own father’s actions, freezing the moment leo had wrapped his arms around them. they’re stiff, uncertain… stunned, ultimately. foleo was unused to this sort of contact… but, it wasn’t completely unwelcome. a good part of them had wished he’d been like this much sooner.
hesitantly, they return the embrace, keeping back tears and clutching their father’s cloak a bit tighter than they’d like to admit, almost as though they’re trying to keep this moment from escaping them. deep down, foleo had always wanted this, but they never knew it’d happen. when they pulled away, they wiped at their eyes– were they crying?
"FOLEO!" Oh, she /loved/ birthdays! And this one was one of the best! Immediately, she held out the gift towards him, all carefully wrapped and not one ounce of it was stolen. She had been doing odd jobs for a little while, and finally saved up enough to get the bolt of shimmery blue fabric that looked like the night sky, and some matching thread for it. "Happy birthday. Hope you like it!"
❝ thank you, eponine! ❞
they hurriedly opened it, blatantly excited. they’re careful to not tear the wrapping, but it’s still a bit too fast to avoid it here and there. the moment they saw what was inside was the moment they set it gently on the ground and hugged her tightly.
Happy birthday my little Foleo <333! I hope you have a wonderful birthday today! Here, here! I brought you a little gift---lots of love from Auntie Elise, okay? That's my little Foleo! -SHOWERS NEPHEW WITH LOTS OF FLOWERS-
❝ aunt elise!! ❞
the flower shower brought an even brighter smile to their face. they laughed, absolutely flattered.
"I know you can make this kind of thing yourself, but when I saw this, I couldn't stop thinking about how cute it would look on you!" Charlotte was holding out a pair of hair decorations, similar to her own albeit a pale pink and smaller. "I mean, even if you don't want them in your hair, maybe you could use them in one of your designs? Anyway, happy birthday Foleo!"
❝ oh, mother… ❞
they accept the gift with joy practically emanating off of them, taking off their beret and putting on the the ribbons in their hair immediately.
❝ they’re wonderful! i love them, so don’t worry about if i’m going to use them or not. thank you so much! ❞
"Happy birthday, Foleo! Since you like to make clothes, I want to give you this snakeskin. You could make a scarf with it or anything else you'd like."
❝ oh, ah… thank you! ❞
in all the years they’ve been alive, they never thought they’d receive snakeskin as a present.
❝ i’ll be sure to figure something out. thank you VERY much for the gift! ❞
Benoit walks up to the young man and hold out a handmade good luck charm. The charm has beads and small gems, the outside has a simple pink ribbon on it. "Happy Birthday Foleo. I made this good luck charm for you. It's to help you stay inspired."
❝ oh goodness, i… ❞
they’re a bit surprised by the sentiment, but accepted it nonetheless. after examining it carefully they came to a simple conclusion: they loved it. a bright smile spread across their face.
❝ thank you very much, benoit. i’ll take very good care of it. ❞
ok so! i’m gonna put this blog on an indefinite semi-hiatus because i have school and two other blogs, so i can’t be on this blog as often as possible. i have so many things i need to do on this blog but i... sadly can’t keep up ( plus i’m actually losing responses?? ) so i’m not gonna be too active ( and i wasn’t before so? this is just an official semi-hiatus notice )
Gazing in admiration from beyond a glass bay window, Kamui watched, mesmerized, as Foleo invoked their incredible embroidery talent upon a simple cut of fabric. The Nohrian royal managed to tear her gaze away, only to enter the modest edifice in which Foleo labored over their fine adornments.
“Hello, Foleo! Hard at work, I see.“ The Nohrian reached up to brush the loose strands from her glittering eyes. “May I see what you’re working on?”
❝ oh, hello, kamui! i most certainly
am. go ahead and look! ❞
pride shone in young eyes as they
presented their project: a ball gown,
with intricate designs covering both
sleeves and a bow on the back. the
detail, care, and love put into this was
blatant in how nothing appeared out of
place.
❝ this may just be my best work yet!
what do you think? ❞
Foleo wasn’t the kind of person that enjoyed physical displays of affection. For their aunt, they made an exception. Just this once.
Aunt Elise was their personal favorite out of their entire family. She was a shining light to her people and bursting with positivity, so much so that she had more of that than the entire army combined. She was like a meadow of bright flowers filled with hope and joy and everything that made people love to live their lives. Her smile could light up any room she walked into…
…but right now, she wasn’t smiling.
After their last battle, most everyone was injured. Elise, who was one of the healers, insisted that she help heal everyone else before anyone could worry about her. Her kind heart was one of the most beautiful things imaginable. If only Foleo could create an outfit to show the world just how magnificent she was. Maybe if they tried hard enough, their sewing could end the needless fighting and create peace for both sides of the war.
When she was finally free from her healing duties, everyone else had left ( aside Foleo ) on her orders. She didn’t want to worry anyone for whatever reason as tears fell from her eyes and muffled sobs came from beneath the hands that now covered her face. She was clearly in pain– why she hadn’t asked for help was beyond their knowledge, but they knew they had to find a way to help. They approached her, a quiet,
“Do you need help, Aunt Elise?”
spoken in an effort to direct her attention elsewhere. The effort was effective, with the princess looking up and a yelp of surprise escaping her. It made them laugh.
She responded by shaking her head “no,” but a pause halfway, changing to a rapid “yes,” as tears streamed down her face. Foleo chuckled. She really was a child.
Elise pulled off her left boot, a nasty wound revealing itself and causing her brother’s child to flinch, eyes widening and worry immediately setting into their face. It was a wonder why she hadn’t even said a word of this before! Quickly, they reach for a Mend staff, working quickly with the gash and ensuring that it would heal properly, glancing up at their aunt every so often to see how she was handling it. If there was a way to make it any easier on her, they would’ve taken it.
As soon as the wound was closed, Foleo sighed with relief, every bit of fear slipping away now that they knew Elise was fairly safe and in comf– oh? Her expression was still pained. “Are you alright?” they asked. Did they do something wrong, or–
“It still stings…” Well, that was normal. That always happened. It wasn’t exactly the greatest feeling, but it WAS normal… Oh, what to do. They knew that they couldn’t use the staff a second time on their aunt; it wouldn’t work for the pain. What COULD they do? Maybe someone around the army knew an herbal remedy for it, or– a thought came to them suddenly. While it wouldn’t soothe Elise physically, it may lighten her mood.
With the softest grin, Foleo placed the smallest kiss on her cheek, an equally tiny titter coming from them as they stated, “You know what they say: kissing it better always works,” and they were right.
Her bright smile returned, the sparkles in her eyes shining even more than usual. She recovered quickly… though, they doubted that the pain was REALLY gone.
“Please be more careful, Aunt Elise. You’re important to all of us as well. You shouldn’t refuse medical attention…”
And with that, she nodded again, faster than before.
