All he was trying to do was build her up and reassure her, but now, here she is, very clearly making an effort to "get" him as well. And how he's taken aback by also being seen in this moment... as if nobody (except maybe Beau and maybe his family too - this we don't know yet) hasn't ever really made the effort or at the very least given him the benefit of the doubt.
