what's folsense lights???? 👀 im curious

Hello ! I’m happy to see that some Layton fans are still following my blog ! I still love professor Layton even if I don’t make a lot of content anymore. It’s just that I don’t really like the new direction Level 5 is taking, so I’m not really active. But I still follow your creations, guys !

Folsense Lights is a comic project I got a long time ago. It’s a remake of Diabolical/ Pandora’s box, my favorite game in the series, based on my own vision of its storyline, characters and themes. I scheduled it to come out between 2017 and 2019, but I was not satisfied with the pages I did, it looked nothing like the ambitious project I had in mind ! They are posted on the comic’s official account @folsenselights, and they look even worse today ! 🤣My art has improved a lot since then ! I’m quite happy I delayed it not only because of the art, but some of the planned story elements and dialogues were very...well...cringy ! My vision of the world has changed a lot too... And very recently (Like...this year !) I got new ideas like the inclusion of Katia’s mother : Iris.

Will I continue it someday ? I think so ! I still want to tell that story, I still hold dear its themes and characters, but it would take another form. Full comic pages made entirely with watercolors was too ambitious and out of my reach for a non professional project, so it made me lose my motivation. I was thinking about an illustrated ‘storybook’ with some comic parts. Less drawings, less time and more attention and details on those drawings. I’m not saying that you will see it soon, it’s just “not canceled” !

The future of this site is pretty uncertain. So I don’t know if Folsense Lights will be published here. I don’t want to publish something in a ghost town site ! Evolution of my Anton redesign for “Folsense Lights”. From a baby angel face, to a hooked nosed angsty boy. Five years of struggle !

Ugh ! That one was hard... It took me about four or five years to have something satisfying !

The only instruction Takuzo Nagano (character designer) got for Anton was "make him cool". So we got a pleasant and handsome design.

But I wanted to go further than a handsome guy, and make something deeper. Something which translates better Anton's tormented emotions.

you already have noticed that Folsense Lights hasn’t been updated for a long time. Well...The reason is that looking back at my finished pages, I was not satisfied with the result. I gave to myself deadlines to draw the comic faster and post pages regularly...but it wasn’t a good idea. The pages were rushed, and I didn’t took pleasure drawing them. But things became more complicated... June 18th 2018, the original panels were lost. I was coming back home on a train and my bag was stolen. It contained all the pages, finished and unfinished. But it could have been worse because there was only 3 finished pages and 7 partially done. And I still have the storyboard and all the concept arts (except some color keys)

It was a hard time, but it made me think back about the comic. Now that my panels are gone, there is one solution : redraw it all ! And better than before ! For the moment, the first three panels posted here will stay the same and I’m going to continue the story from where I stopped. But this time, I will put more care on the drawings, and take my time to give you the best Folsense Lights that I can. It’s a project that I have carried for years, so I don’t want to waste it.

So, don’t worry, Folsense Lights will be back !
